I'm in absolutely no way qualified to start this thread but I couldn't see another one!

So after nearly 2 weeks of not running with plantar fasciitis issues, I've just done W6R1! I thought I'd go back a bit a build up gradually but it was actually ok considering I haven't run in so long. I haven't lost it completely as actually felt a bit like a runner! 🥳 We'll see how my heels are later today...

And I got back home just before the hail hit!

Hope anybody else running this morning is enjoying the crazy weather!

Evening all! It'll be wk9 R2 for me tomorrow and I'm actually looking forward to it, going to do the same run as yesterday and hopefully see some squirrels again!
Does anyone on here do the park run events?

emilyjeff · 29/09/2021 19:26

Yes @pink parkrun is good! Very friendly and non competitive although some do get very busy which isn't so enjoyable. Have only been once this year what with covid etc but would defo recommend

purplesequins · 29/09/2021 19:35

well done pinky
parktun is a great thing, but my local one is at 8am. I'm not getting out of bed that early on a weekend!
tomorrow is a running group session with the theme 'speed'

PinkDaydreams · 30/09/2021 10:17

Wk9 R2 done! One run left which I'm going to do tomorrow. I might do a park run, see how I get on running over the next few weeks.
I'm going to take a bottlw of water out with me tomorrow as I have a cold and my throat the last few runs has been really sore.

Can anyone recommend t shirts for running please? I've currently got a couple of Berghaus tech ones that need replacing.

emilyjeff · 30/09/2021 12:11

I've not ran at all this week 😒This cough is quite bad and just running upstairs leaves me out of breath ( it's not covid I've tested) Just annoying as I was just getting back into the habit, hoping I might still get a weekend run in if I feel a bit better by then

purplesequins · 30/09/2021 12:18

that's a shame emily
I hope you feel better soon.

pink I'm a fan of decathlon, partly because I have one near. I usually buy from the men's range as they tend to be longer.
I don't take water on my runs, but sometimes take a throat sweet.

purplesequins · 30/09/2021 19:24

back from the running group.
it was run today by a different person, still we did 2k jog to warm up and stretches.
then beep test.
I only managed 6 levels. will certainly feel it tomorrow and according to my watch my heart rate went up to 195 Shock
tbh it was a bit dissapointing, I hoped to get more tips on how to speed up and increase cadence without collapsing after a few meters.

PinkDaydreams · 01/10/2021 07:14

Oh I used to hate the bleep test at school!
Is that a regular group you go to @purplesequins? Could you ask them to do a session on speed up tips as I'm sure you wouldn't have been the only one wanting to know the same?

I'm debating my last c25k run this morning. Meant to be a rest day but I've got loads to do over the weekend and Monday so won't get chance to do it. But my cold has decided to get worse over night. Think I'll do it but just plod along slowly, does that still count as a run though?!

MaggieMagpie1 · 02/10/2021 14:29

I started again last week for what feels like the eleventy billionth time.

I have a really weird thing going on (which I assume is mental rather than physical) that I get through the programme and then just stop.

Last year, I trained to run the Edinburgh Marathon 10k (virtually) and did it, albeit with some walk breaks. Felt absolutely amazing...massive sense of achievement...then just stopped again.

Not sure what that's about but am hoping to keep consistent this time. Fingers crossed!!

Week 2 run 3 done this morning.

emilyjeff · 06/10/2021 11:26

Hi all. Finally felt well enough to run this morning! Did a nice flat 2.5 miles, actually felt OK, I was expecting to feel more breathless after my cold/ cough so all good.

Cavagirl · 06/10/2021 12:20

Well done emily!

RichardMarxisinnocent · 06/10/2021 12:32

Well done Emily!

I am still plodding along through the early weeks of couch to 5k again. Did W3R2 this morning. I'm making sure I stretch my calves pre run and also a little after the first 90s run, and also doing a full stretching routine post run. Touch wood, all calves and achilles feel OK still.

I've been thinking I need some warmer gear if I am going to carry on through the winter. I've been looking at the Decathlon website and am a bit confused about long sleeved t-shirts and long leggings. There are several Kiprun branded ones all with slightly different but very similar names and descriptions. I have no idea which I should be getting. Some specify what temperature they are designed for, others don't. Some t-shirts have ventilation, others don't. Does it matter which I get? Are there any features I really ought to have? Or am I OK to just get whichever fit me best?

emilyjeff · 06/10/2021 14:48

Thanks ladies 😊
@RichardMarxisinnocent I don't really have much in the way of specific running clothes. Today I wore a normal long sleeve cotton top and polyester type running leggings. When it gets colder like proper winter I wear cotton leggings, same kind of top as today with either a lightweight waterproof jacket or soft shell type jacket depending how cold it is. I would just get whatever is comfortable/ fits well

purplesequins · 06/10/2021 15:26

I have a few men's cycling t-shirts (they are nicely long in the torso)
and a couple of leggings long and short.
a fleece jumper for cold days (below 14 degrees)

most of my stuff is from decathlon

RichardMarxisinnocent · 06/10/2021 16:36

Thank you both. I have running shorts, cropped leggings and a couple of sports t-shirts, but nothing for when it gets really cold (I wore an ancient Pineapple zip up tracksuit jacket type thing this morning over a t-shirt as it was a bit cold, but it's not at all sweat wicking and it's plain black and I'd like something in a bright colour or with reflective bits on it). Will take a trip to Decathlon.

purplesequins · 06/10/2021 16:41

I have a bright salmon coloured fleece. my dc call it 'skin coloured' which is acurate after a run Grin

decathlon is great and also lidl/aldi sometimes have decent stuff.

purplesequins · 06/10/2021 16:48

anyway, back from a run now.

a pleasant 5k
gosh I will miss daylight for my midweek runs.

LatinforTelly · 11/10/2021 11:55

Haven't posted for a while as this dropped off 'threads I'm on'. Good to see everyone's progress. Wow, @PinkDaydreams, you are fast! I started c25k in Feb I think and my fastest is 31 mins for 4.7 k.

I'm a bit demotivated today because as I've been getting faster, my foot niggles have improved and I thought I might have been getting a better style, but yesterday I ran and then played tennis and my lower back and hips are very sore - so sore I had trouble sleeping.

My hips had been starting to niggle over the past week or 2 but now they are very sore. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? I'm late 40s if that's relevant. I don't remember any pain when running in my 20s.

purplesequins · 11/10/2021 12:03

hi latin

I think your time is very respectable!

I did 10k yesterday.
ticked of running on the beach from my list

wrt hip pain - is it more muscular or does it feel more like joint?
I have a hip issue. what exactly I don't know, physio & gp haven't seen any issue. next step would be orthopaedic...
what helps me is keeping it warm after a run (seems counter intuitive sitting in a warm fleece sweating from the run), stretching, and exercises to strengthen the glutes.

LatinforTelly · 11/10/2021 13:32

Running on the beach is impressive, blimey!

It feels like tendon or muscle, but over the boney bit of my hip, if that makes sense?! ie not where the thigh bone fits into the pelvis, above that, where low rise jeans would sit. I've attached a stock pic - exactly where she's got her top two fingers on her right hand side or where I've put the arrow on the other.

I will take a few days off exercise sadly and go to the physio if it stays sore but it is frustrating just as I am getting a bit faster. Good tips though, I will try those and have also googled hip flexor stretches. Thanks!

Evening ladies and welcome back Latin, good to hear that you're still running. Can't help with the hip pain I'm afraid, always shins and feet that I have problems with! Hope you get it sorted tho.
I did a very hilly 5k this afternoon. I was pretty slow but still pleased that I managed to run for 30 mins and didn't walk at any point.

emilyjeff · 20/10/2021 11:48

Hey ladies, I've been so inconsistent with running lately, no motivation! I really need to get my arse into gear and get back to 3x a week. Was planning to go today before work but it was real heavy rain and thunder. Has brightened up now tho so hoping to push myself out the door after work. There I've said it so I'll have to go now!

Cavagirl · 22/10/2021 10:47

Well done emily! Did you make it out?

I've been seriously rubbish too lately, max once a week although won't go at all this week as I've been a bit under the weather and away for the weekend 🙈 next week I will get back to it!

emilyjeff · 22/10/2021 16:46

Hi cava yes I did make it out and I've been again this afternoon! Just 20 mins each time but didn't seem too bad. Might try a bit longer on Sunday. Definitely feeling better for it I just need to get back into the routine

LatinforTelly · 22/10/2021 21:10

Well done, @emilyjeff. I thought of you and this thread today as I had my first run in nearly 2 weeks because of back and hip problems. I was wondering if you made it out! Do you think it's harder now the nights are drawing in? I don't feel nearly as motivated to go (but took a break on purpose because everything hurt.) I went very steadily today but hips still hurt. It's annoying, these various aches and pains!
