I'm in absolutely no way qualified to start this thread but I couldn't see another one!

So after nearly 2 weeks of not running with plantar fasciitis issues, I've just done W6R1! I thought I'd go back a bit a build up gradually but it was actually ok considering I haven't run in so long. I haven't lost it completely as actually felt a bit like a runner! 🥳 We'll see how my heels are later today...

And I got back home just before the hail hit!

Hope anybody else running this morning is enjoying the crazy weather!

Ahhhh that must be it Smile

purplesequins · 06/08/2021 09:49

hrmph I pulled something in my thigh going down some steps and missing the last one.
doesn't hurt too much, more like a muscle ache. but the muscle feels 'twitchy' and unstable going down stairs.
I guess I need to leave it for a few days...

emilyjeff · 06/08/2021 10:35

Oh thats annoying purplesequins!
I missed the run on my garmin yesterday as I felt a bit crappy and forgot to reschedule it for today. So just went out this morning and did 20 mins easy pace again. I'll do a longer run on Sunday. I think that's probably enough for my first week back of doing 3x a week anyway.

emilyjeff · 08/08/2021 10:42

Long run done ✔ Was meant to be 30 mins but carried on til about 35 as it was pissing it down and I was still quite far from home!
Definitely need to work on strengthening my legs as they were aching after about 2 miles whereas breathing wise I would've been fine to carry on longer. Feeling pleased that I've ran 3 times this week tho 😊

emilyjeff · 13/08/2021 12:46

Hi ladies, very quiet on here lately. Please come back and save me from talking to myself!!
I ran on Tuesday but not been since. We are away now until Monday and we're staying very near a parkrun so planning to do that tomorrow. I'll prob take it steady but will be nice to run with others, it's probably about 2 years since I last did parkrun! Have a good weekend everyone 😊

LatinforTelly · 13/08/2021 15:17

Hi there, I am still going, not managing as many runs in the school hols, generally 2 a week. My daughter pointed me to the Adidas run app which gives times for each km which I find quite motivating and I eventually deleted the c25k app Shock on my phone as it was low on space!

I am still quite slow - 6.45 to 7.15 per km which is around 11.5 to 12 mins a mile I think. Am working on getting to 5 k (still doing 4.7) and going a bit faster. Happy just to be exercising as I'm sure it makes me feel better in lots of ways.

How's everyone else doing?

purplesequins · 15/08/2021 12:09

still here.
were able to unexpectedly go away for a few days. so just quick 20 min 4k runs and a lot of hiking.

purplesequins · 15/08/2021 12:11

latin that's a very respectable effort. not far off the 5 k as well. I'm sure you will get there soon and the speed will improve almost on it's own.

emilyjeff · 15/08/2021 12:47

Hi Latin and purple good to hear you're still running.
I did parkrun yesterday, was nice to run somewhere different although was a very busy one and I had forgotten what it's like at the start when you're running on other people's heels! Other than that been doing plenty of walking. We're away til tomorrow afternoon so might get another run in in the morning

Haggisfish3 · 15/08/2021 12:49

Hello everyone. Just wanted to say keep going-I did a 5k run in 35 minutes today, without stopping once! I started c25 in February. I repeated some weeks a couple of times and had a few weeks off here and there but I am still incredulous that I can run that far without stopping now! Couldn’t run for more than 30s when I started.

emilyjeff · 18/08/2021 09:29

Well done haggis!
Been out for a quick 20 min run before work this morning. DS1 bought me some aftershock bone conductor earphones for my bday so wanted to try them out, they're great!

RichardMarxisinnocent · 19/08/2021 22:32

I have been AWOL because I managed to give myself a calf strain in W4R3. Rested for 3 weeks, tried an earlier week, my calf still didn't feel right so referred myself to physio. I had my first appointment just over a month ago, and was told to keep on with the stretching, as many times a day as needed, but interestingly to only do calf raises approx twice a week and certainly never more than once a day.

I was given the green light to try running again, right back to week 1 and with only 5 lots of running instead of 8. For various reasons it took me until this week to actually run, but I've now been twice, calf feels fine (touch wood), and I was really pleased that it felt so much easier than the first time I did week one. There was no willing the minute to hurry up and finish and I was able to run at what fell like a fast-ish pace. It's a bit frustrating starting from the beginning again, but I am happy just to be doing a little bit of running, and think I'll take things slowly and maybe repeat some weeks twice, and hopefully I'll get to the end this time!

purplesequins · 20/08/2021 08:01

glad you are back richard

no running here. dh and I have caught the common cold at/after our holiday and we are holed up at home. hopefully sunday I'm well enough for an easy 3k or so.

emilyjeff · 22/08/2021 15:58

That sounds good Richard!
And hope you're feeling better now purple
I did my long easy run today- 40 mins. Tried a new route and there were some nice views bit quite hilly. First half was on a disused road, second half footpaths across farmers fields. Found myself getting annoyed as garmin told me I was running too slow when it was uphill and I was fighting my way through a corn field! But I made it back and then being a glutton for punishment did 3 mile walk with my mum and dad and the dogs!

LatinforTelly · 23/08/2021 13:34

These Garmin watches seem like tyrants! Do they track you as you're going along? I think I'm happier with just my old fitbit and the adidas running woman who tells me my km times seemingly without judgment. She sounds a bit like the speaking clock tbh Grin

Glad you're running again, RichardMarx. Hope the calf holds out.

Hope you managed your easy 3k, Purple.

I did my usual 4.65k this morning in a good time for me. I am trying to work out whether I can be bothered to train for a 5 mile run nearish me in a month or so.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 23/08/2021 23:20

I really like reading that people have been on 4 or 5k runs, or have run for 40 minutes. It's so amazing that we can go in a few months from finding 30 seconds of running almost impossible to being able to run for more than half an hour non stop.

Calf is still OK, I do get the beginnings of it feeling tight every now and then, but stretching sorts that out, and it's not any worse or different feeling to how it was before I got back to running. It is happening less and less often so I think it's probably just the calf still finishing recovering from the strain. I have my next physio appointment next week so will check if the physio agrees.

purplesequins · 27/08/2021 09:28

I nearly lost this thread!

had to postpone my run to mid week. a very slow 3k to ease myself in again.

next week the running group starts again, will see if I can make it (work is manic atm).
theme is 'core'

emilyjeff · 27/08/2021 12:00

I hadnt ran since Sunday so dragged myself out this morning. My garmin session was goal repeats, fun times. Managed 3 intervals instead of 4 partly cos I was exhausted and partly cos my route was a bit on the short side. Felt good to be back out tho, will hopefully do long run Sunday, have more motivation for those atm as it involves exploring new routes!

DobbyIsAFreeElf · 27/08/2021 15:34

I seem to have dropped down to only running once a week because of the shifts I have been on and it's only gets worse over the next two weeks as I start a new role.
Today I managed my 5k in 31.45 which I'm so happy about. My aim is to gradually shave time off until I hit 30 mins.

purplesequins · 27/08/2021 16:50

once a week is better than not at all.
that's a very respectable time as well!

emilyjeff · 29/08/2021 18:51

Garmin confused me today, was all set for my long run but when I went on the planned session it said time trial instead! Didn't fancy that much so stuck with my planned long easy run, wasn't actually that easy as it was 5 miles and at least half was across fields rather than roads but the views were good and I also saw a deer quite close up so quite enjoyed it really

purplesequins · 02/09/2021 19:37

back from running group.
theme was 'core'
there will be muscle aches tomorrow!

started with 2k run to warm up, then stretches.

then some exercises, like mermaids and planks and disgonal crunches.

then 2k intervals with special attention to posture: loose shoulders (swishy ponytail) and high knees.

purplesequins · 02/09/2021 19:40

I think those bite size themes are quite good.
I have to buy a strip of tickets if I want to continue.

emilyjeff · 02/09/2021 22:14

@purplesequins sounds good! I'm back doing daily yoga and todays session was core, felt good after but think I'll probably be sore tomorrow
I haven't run since Sunday. Had a bit of shin/ calf pain earlier in the week so think I may have overdone it a bit. Planning to do 20 mins easy tomorrow and see how it feels.

Buntyforgirls · 07/09/2021 07:16

Can I join even though I am about to start wk2 only, please??
Inspiring thread, thank you.
