I'm in absolutely no way qualified to start this thread but I couldn't see another one!

So after nearly 2 weeks of not running with plantar fasciitis issues, I've just done W6R1! I thought I'd go back a bit a build up gradually but it was actually ok considering I haven't run in so long. I haven't lost it completely as actually felt a bit like a runner! 🥳 We'll see how my heels are later today...

And I got back home just before the hail hit!

Hope anybody else running this morning is enjoying the crazy weather!

welcome bunty

emilyjeff · 07/09/2021 22:46

Hi bunty, very welcome to join
I've not been running much lately, did 3 miles on Sunday which seemed like tough going then it's been really hot last few days so not been out. I'm now away on holiday for 10 days so running will be a bit hit and miss

PinkDaydreams · 17/09/2021 10:01

Please can I join?!
I've done wk 7 run 3 this morning. I really can't believe that the programme works!

Can I ask what the Garmin plans are that people are doing please, is it an app? I've got a Garmin watch which I've been setting at the start of my run, got two personal bests this morning, 1 mile in 8.44 and 1km in 5.23. I know it's not the best but I'm just glad that I've finally got my arse in gear!

This is the first week that I've noticed my thighs toning up a bit too which is why I took up running, I want to tone up my legs!

How does everyone get on with winter running? I'm enjoying running but dreading the snow and ice.

purplesequins · 17/09/2021 10:07

welcome pinky
well done getting this far!

I don't do any plans, I like to pootle about, one long run on the weekend (45 min or more) and a 5k midweek.
ocassionally I go to a running group, but they are themed, if the theme isn't interesting I don't go. yesterday was about fitness trackers...

winter - I don't run when the ground is unsafe. other than that I go to a sport park (brightly lit) for evening runs in the dark.

PinkDaydreams · 17/09/2021 10:09

Thank you for your reply @purplesequins! Can I ask how long you're running a 5k in please as I'm not sure what I should be aiming for? I've always presumed 30mins because of the c25k.

emilyjeff · 17/09/2021 10:32

Hi pinky and welcome. It's been quite quiet on here lately. I'm away on holiday in the lake district atm so not been running for the past week or so. I'm home Sunday tho so will be back in action next week.
The garmin plan is through the garmin connect app. If you select training on the menu then training plans, then you can select the distance and time you'd like to aim for. I find it good for keeping me motivated, will prob restart a new one once Im home

Thank you so much for the connect info! I've got the connect app and use it everyday but hadn't noticed the training plans. Once my 5k is done I might start working my way up to the 10k using Garmin connect, thank you!

Oh how lovely, love the lakes! We are going away in a few weeks and I'm tempted to take my trainers with me as I'll have completed the c25k by then and will no doubt want to carry on.

May I ask what other training you are all doing please if any? I really want to tone up stomach and legs. I do fifty sit ups before and after each run. Not sure what else I should be doing.

purplesequins · 17/09/2021 12:36

my last 5k this week was 25min.
it took me almost a year from starting c25k to running 5k below 30 minutes.

on non running days I do some exercises for core and glutes (planks, mermaids, clams etc)

PinkDaydreams · 19/09/2021 09:57

Just done week 8 run 1, that's running for 28 minutes. Managed to do my first 5k in 28 minutes and 2 seconds which I'm made up with, only been running for around 9 weeks. But I did find it tough, just need to keep going with it.

emilyjeff · 19/09/2021 10:37

Well done @PinkDaydreams that's a great time for your first 5k! My first was around 35 mins I think
Yes I brought my trainers with me but just haven't managed to get out running! I have done a lot of walking tho, hoping I haven't lost too much of my fitness.
I do 15-20 mins of yoga a day. I think you'll find your legs will.tone up as you carry on running. It's my arms and tummy that need toning and I think the yoga is helping a bit

PinkDaydreams · 19/09/2021 11:10

I used to a Pilates class and hot yoga class years ago. I've got some dvds in the cupboard which I think I'll dig out and do those on the days I'm not running. Although I keep threatening to get the hula hoop out and use that as I bought it about a year ago and haven't done anything with it!!

emilyjeff · 22/09/2021 18:02

I'm back! Just been out for my first run in about 2 weeks, took it slow and steady and only did 20 mins but didn't feel too awful 😊 Think I'll try for 30 mins on my next run

PinkDaydreams · 23/09/2021 09:40

Well done @emilyjeff

I've just done wk8 r2. Felt rubbish today coz I haven't run for three days , generally wasnt in the mood to do it this morning, couldnt regulate my breathing, sound track was rubbish too. But I pushed myself over the 28 minutes for an extra minute to get a 5k done.

purplesequins · 23/09/2021 09:50

well done pink and emily just getting out there feels good afterwards

I usually need the first 10min of a run to get into a rhythm. running to music I find difficult, it just sometimes doesn't fit my cadence.

emilyjeff · 23/09/2021 12:47

Yeah I think some runs are just like that @PinkDaydreams when nothing feels right and it's a real slog to get through!
I always find it hard to get back into the habit after a holiday, had so much on this week too. Two runs will have to suffice this week, back to 3x next week and then maybe the week after I'll start a garmin plan again.

Cavagirl · 26/09/2021 09:48

Right, I'm going out for my first time in a very very long time. (6 weeks!! Arrrgh how did this happen??)

Wish me luck, this is going to be painful...!

purplesequins · 26/09/2021 10:12

good luck, cava.
my planned route today is 9k, very scenic.
light rain, so hopefully not too much dog slalom today (which is why I reserve this route for not-too-nice weather)

emilyjeff · 26/09/2021 11:02

Morning ladies, I'm just back from my run, did 30 mins as planned and it wasn't too painful.
@Cavagirl I know the feeling! I hate it when I get out of the habit of running because then I'm annoyed at myself for how much fitness I've lost! Hopefully it wasn't too bad anyway
Hope your run went well too @purple dog slalom did make me laugh! I know the feeling well!

Cavagirl · 26/09/2021 12:00

Thanks ladles!
I did a very slooooooow 5k but was actually really enjoying it - until my headphones ran out of battery halfway! Then it was a bit of a slog, I really need music to keep me going! But I did it and it didn't feel too awful which was a pleasant surprise. Back on it now Smile
Hope the dogs stayed home for you purple!

purplesequins · 26/09/2021 19:38

that was a tough one today.
it was unexpectedly humid and warm. hardly any breeze.
at some point a hiking group took up so much space I had to walk for a bit. I hit the wrong thing on the smart watch so am not sure about my time.
but it sure was nice to get out.

PinkDaydreams · 27/09/2021 07:02

Sounds like a few of us went out yesterday! I did wk8 r3 yesterday, another 28 mins of running. Carried on for another 11 seconds to get another 5k done. I was trying to work on breathing yesterday and keeping a steady pace as I've found myself going fast to start with but burning myself out.
I was going to go for another run this morning after dropping ds at nursery but the weather is torrential! I'm yet to buy waterproofs.

PinkDaydreams · 28/09/2021 09:51

Wk9 R1 completed this morning, really wasn't in the mood as it's pouring with rain, I'm getting a cold and it's that time of the month! (Sorry tmi!) Not the best time, I did 5k in just over 29 mins but I'm building on keeping a steady pace rather than speed at the minute. Pleased with myself as I did it and also tried a new route which was nice as I saw lots of squirrels! Does the rain stop anyone on here?

emilyjeff · 28/09/2021 10:23

Morning pink, well done for getting out there. I bailed on running this morning as I have a bit of a cold and a really dry cough that's making me feel a bit breathless. Did 15 mins of yoga instead tho.
Yes I generally still run if it's showery- I put a cap over my hair and a waterproof jacket on. I'm not hard-core enough to go if it's really heavy rain tho, it's just not enjoyable!

purplesequins · 28/09/2021 10:35

rain doesn't stop me.
my running gear gets wet from sweat anyway and I need a shower after...

what stops me is high winds and extreme cold (below -5) or heat (30+) or unsafe surfaces (ice)

purplesequins · 28/09/2021 10:42

I don't bother with raingear.
