I'm in absolutely no way qualified to start this thread but I couldn't see another one!

So after nearly 2 weeks of not running with plantar fasciitis issues, I've just done W6R1! I thought I'd go back a bit a build up gradually but it was actually ok considering I haven't run in so long. I haven't lost it completely as actually felt a bit like a runner! 🥳 We'll see how my heels are later today...

And I got back home just before the hail hit!

Hope anybody else running this morning is enjoying the crazy weather!

@ghostmouse

Can I join?
I’ve just started week 1 today, this is my third attempt at couch25k and I haven’t got further than week 3 due to Various reasons.

Any ideas on shoes, my very old karrimor runs have been discontinued and they seemed to be the only ones that were supportive arched and tight fitting to my feet, I have narrow feets with a bunion on my right foot .

I did W1R1 today too! Due to a lack of childcare I'm having to do it with a running buggy so it feels like quite a slog at the moment. It was OK unless I was going uphill, even slightly. I'll try to time my run and walk sections better next time to avoid running up hills. It would have been doable without the buggy but it just felt a bit much for me, a complete beginner, today.

welcome ghost and winter

wrt shoes - most people do well with ordinary 'neutral' running shoes. decathlon has decent ones for around 50£.
make sure they fit properly, you need a thumb width of space at your toes (much like fitting toddler shoes Grin)

running whilst pushing is an extra level... do try to go without push chair sometimes your posture and range of step will be a lot different.

good luck!

Thank you! I'm hoping to do one run a week without the buggy. I hope it feels easier!

Right, I'm off for a rare lunchtime run! Yes I am yes I am yes I am

Lovely sunshine out there! I felt super slow and tired but actually did my 5k 40secs quicker than the last time I made it out! Hopefully that means the new gym weights programme is working....
Still the wrong side of 30 minutes though!

Welcome to all the newbies!

Hey everyone, and welcome newbies. I've still not really found my running mojo so not been out much, tho looking on garmin app earlier I've ran more kms in Nov then I did in Oct so I guess that's progress right?!
I ran on Thurs, just a quick 20 mins after I finished work. Planning to do 30 mins/ hopefully 5k a bit later on this afternoon

Hi all I'm new here and wanted to get advice.
I'm 15w postpartum, having had a c section. I've been swimming for the past month and not felt any pain in my incision although it sometimes still feels slightly tingly when not swimming. I ran before getting pregnant- nothing intense, just a few kilometres somewhat regularly but stopped in pregnancy (I did swim and walk the whole 2nd and 3rd tri).
I want to start running again and would like to start couch to 5k maybe next week.
Any advice on starting again post c section? I feel excited but also a bit nervous...
Thanks

welcome wolf

generally (from googling) it seems that new mothers should wait until 12 weeks before starting to run again.

so yes, give it a go. but give good attention to your pelvic floor.

I found this one interesting as well www.runnersworld.com/health-injuries/a20866684/10-weird-things-no-one-tells-you-about-when-returning-to-running-post-baby/

and if in doubt ask your mw or gp.

Thanks purple. That's helpful. I wonder if anything else to consider specifically re: c section?

Hi ladies, welcome wolf. I have been rubbish with running again this week, lacking in time and motivation. Ran this morning tho, managed 5k in 30 mins and didnt feel too much like hard work, somehow I've managed to keep a reasonable fitness level even with only running once or twice a week 🙂

purplesequins · 09/12/2021 07:20

I'm back to running twice a week now.

hip definitely less squeaky. but the foam roller and I are still not on best terms Grin

I broke a personal record last night - bloody cold, I had to run fast to get and stay warm.

and I 'met' my waving friend who was also running in the sportspark. if was nice to see her again (still have no idea whi she is but we give each other a smile and wave when we cross paths when out running)

I managed to run again yesterday, was running short on time so was just a quick 2.5k down to pharmacy to collect a prescription for DH. That cold wind was horrible!
Aiming to run again fri and sun but tbh if I can manage twice a week at the moment I'll be happy with that

yes the air felt extra cold yesterday.

Ok I finally managed my first run of week 1. Took my husband bringing the baby out with me and helping me sort my kit but I got it done and enjoyed it. My c section incision did not hurt but my bottom did! Feels good to be running again. Maybe silly to start before Christmas but I'll repeat week 1 if I need to and I wanted something to take my mind off the pandemic!

Well done wolf! I'm still running as and when, managed twice this week. Did a bit more of a hilly route on Friday and didn't feel too bad for it. I think I'm ready to sign up for another Garmin training plan but I'll probably wait until the first week of Jan as I don't know how much running I'll do over the Xmas period.

Well done Wolf! I went out for a rare lunchtime run, was really nice once I warmed up!
Toying with the idea of Christmas Park Run... probably not hugely realistic! Anyone else going for it?

Report
emilyjeff · 22/12/2021 18:39

@Cavagirl I was thinking about that today funnily enough! I'm not sure it's that realistic for me either. Teen DS's not likely to be up very early so could maybe get there and back before present opening but also have parents coming over and I'm cooking so think maybe I might be giving myself a bit too much to do! Could prob nip out for a quick 5k around here tho. Not ran yet this week but hoping to get one in tomorrow before work

Cavagirl · 23/12/2021 23:07

I know, we're hosting too so I think as much fun as it would be, the added stress wouldn't be worth it! I'll try to go out tomorrow instead.
Have a lovely Christmas everyone and hope we can get some running in!x

Right then I'm back! After completing c25k in October and feeling so proud of myself for doing it I haven't ran since. Had a cold, tried to carry on running but ended up having a couple of panic attacks whilst running (stress going on in life that I was worrying over) then went on holiday, came back and was full of cold again, then covid booster which knocked me out, now i have a cold 🤦🏻‍♀️
I am determined to start again on Wednesday once DS is back at nursery. I think I'm going to have to go back a few weeks on the c25k app though as I won't be able to go straight into 5k without stopping.

Well first run this morning since October wasn't good, 2.5k without stopping. I've done a half hour yoga session after it to try help with stretching.

Yes well done pink! I've not been for a run since before Christmas, was planning to go today but I have a banging headache that I've not been able to shift 😔 so currently lying on the sofa feeling sorry for myself instead!

I'm going to go again in the morning, normally go every other day but if I'm feeling up to it tomorrow I'll get out again.

Can anyone recommend some light hearted podcasts to listen to whilst running please? Not necessarily running related, fed up with the radio and music. Had a listen to Scott mills podcast this morning which was quite light hearted to listen to, but any recommendations would be appreciated!Smile

@emilyjeff it's not linked to a covid jab is it? After all three covid vaccines I've had terrible migraines that have lasted over a week. Hope you're feeling better soon Flowers
