Third year for me aiming to be as active as possible most days. So join me in setting a goal and keeping on track by logging on here Smile. I’ve set a 500mile run target this year to be realistic as I’ve nursed foot issues most of 2021 which really curtailed my running miles but sea swimming and trail running have developed into my passions. What’s your challenge this year?

I did it!!! 2:22 which I was most pleased with. It was sooo cold!

Hope you’re getting on okay @TriSeaSwim99!

@LaLaLanded tell more about your puppy!!! What kind? Will you be running with him?!

233/1000km

ErrolTheDragon · 13/02/2021 11:57

Well done! DH looked at the weather and declared this an indoors exercise day. I had a Pilates class and am now contemplating housework vs gardening. It was bin day yesterday, and nature abhors an empty brown bin.Grin

TriSeaSwim2021 · 13/02/2021 12:10

Smashed my fastest ever 2.19, SO pleased as the weather was brutal 40mph gusts but changed my planned route and did 4xloops instead so I could get some shelter but then get blasted along the exposed bit. My fastest 10k as well 62.5mins knew I was on track when I hit that. The last 5k nearly broke me though it was So so cold my legs & back were seizing up.

Super well done @Run1000km2021 thats a brilliant achievement. Can happily eat cake now all weekend Grin

Running 158km
Swimming 5km
Cycling 108km

TriSeaSwim2021 · 13/02/2021 12:12

What’s your puppy lala? We’ve got a 9mth old pup she cheekily swiped half my DD breakfast this morning 🙄on DH watch!

Run1000km2021 · 13/02/2021 12:22

WELL DONE TRI!!!🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

TheLongRider · 13/02/2021 13:32

Well done Tri and Run! If you do a half on a day like today then imagine how fast you could go in good weather.

Snow here this morning so another 36km, 90 minutes on the turbo with some fun cadence intervals.

FrangipaniBlue · 13/02/2021 16:10

Absolutely fantastic @TriSeaSwim2021 and @Run1000km2021 !!!!

I did a 10k PB this week too, must be something in the air!

Sacked off this afternoons lake swim because the air temp is -7 Confused going to try tomorrow as it's forecast to go up to about 4!

Swim 6km
Cycle 638km
Run 171km

815km / 8000km still behind due to the blooming pools closing Angry

tizwozliz · 13/02/2021 16:11

I'm not setting goals this year as my swimming goals were well and truly scuppered by pool closures last year but want to keep track as that'll provide a little motivation.

I'm a very reluctant runner but needs must. 37 km so far this year. I'm trying to run 5k every third day at the moment and concentrating on getting faster rather than increasing distance. I shaved another 30 seconds off my time today. Early stages for me so seeing fairly quick progress thus far but expecting to plateau soon. I'm thinking 30 minutes might be a good aim, I'm currently at 33 mins.

I'm desperate for some new trainers but ordering blind doesn't seem like a good idea.

drspouse · 13/02/2021 16:43

7.5k as DD couldn't go out so we sent DS out with his babysitter/carer/former TA and I went for a tramp on my own.

Run1000km2021 · 13/02/2021 17:02

Wow great running everyone! @tizwozliz running is my main poison but I also really miss the pool😭

AnExcellentWalker · 13/02/2021 18:26

I'm joining. I've just roughly counted up the miles on my pedometer (not counting the days where I didn't do much), I've walked about 125 miles so far this year. Did 16.5 miles yesterday. Nothing today due to migraine. Yesterday was the first really long walk I've done in quite a while, I used to walk loads but stopped prioritising it. Have downloaded the OS maps app so I can find some new routes to walk on my own & hopefully not get lost. DH doesn't enjoy walking much & can't keep up ever since he injured his knee.

I'm trying to get DD to do some walking with me too. She's an absolute bundle of energy & TBH a pain in the arse if she's cooped up too long.

I need to increase my glucosamine and fish oil. My hips are still a bit sore. Anyone else have this issue, can you suggest anything else I can do?

TriSeaSwim2021 · 13/02/2021 18:45

@tizwozliz the only way I could get my time down was a combination of running further slower, strength training (squats/lunges/planks), and speed intervals.

Thanks I’m still buzzing I beat my time goal but boy my left leg is seizing up knew it would...

tizwozliz · 13/02/2021 18:58

I'm doing 5 min run 30 second walk for my 5ks at the moment. I'll review that approach if I hit a wall :-) Once the nights are lighter I might be able to do some longer runs.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/02/2021 19:08

I went through a period of sore hips when walking about when I turned 50 a decade ago. they seem much better nowadays - possibly because I'm not attempting to run, but I also take fish oil, vitamin d and do Pilates... lots of zoom classes which is the one real positive for me which has come out of lockdown. I reckon it complements walking well - good for posture and joints.

LaLaLanded · 13/02/2021 20:19

I keep trying to reply and then getting distracted by Puppy!

Puppy is a Belgian Malinois (boy), for those who asked! He’s a baby now but when he’s older he should be a good runner - really looking forward to having a running buddy! We specifically wanted a dog who would love running - I see quite a few people round here running with dogs who look miserable and exhausted.

@tizwozliz what trainers have you had success with before? I had to order a new pair blind because my old Nike zoom fly 3 were totally unavailable in my size online. It took half a day of research but I managed to find a proxy! I used a combination of runners world articles, YouTube videos and online reviews. Got lucky though.

@TriSeaSwim2021 same for me with getting time down - speed work, long slow runs and strength training! But also working on form - horrid but worth doing.

11km today - fairly easy splits. One more 10k tomorrow and done for the week. Rest day on Monday (probably).

ErrolTheDragon · 13/02/2021 20:25

I had to Google... yes, they look like rather a more athletic German shepherd, should be a great running companion!

tizwozliz · 13/02/2021 20:32

I'm currently wearing some Salomon trainers, some sort of crossmax model but they're ancient and falling apart. They're a 5.5, generally I'm a 5 or a 5.5, but skinny feet. If a 5.5 don't fit lengthwise then they won't work for me as 6 would be way too wide. I've been looking at some Asics Ladies GEL Sonoma 6 which seem to come in half sizes and I read are narrow, but I have no experience with asics. I run on hard pack type gravel, not pavement.

TriSeaSwim2021 · 13/02/2021 20:55

LaLa I had a dog goggle too should be ok with running when older if a shepherd type. We’ve got a Lab x cocker she’s really fast but picked up a shoulder injury over Xmas (think DH over walked her) so she’s been on restricted walks over the last month. We’ve been advised to wait until she’s 2yrs old before doing proper run training, but I’ve yet to meet a dog on the beach yet that she can’t out run on speed.

tiz Trainers advice have a look on some of the running groups on FB like run mummy run, there’s always comments on best shoes for wide feet or cushioned etc. Wiggle have always been good for returns if you need to order several pairs to try.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/02/2021 21:48

I had some ASICS trail shoes (purloined by DD when she went to uni) - I've got wide feet especially across the toes.

TheLongRider · 14/02/2021 11:35

Another 35km on the turbo this morning. That gives me 163km for the week cycled and 15km walked/hiked.

Run1000km2021 · 14/02/2021 14:15

Wow well done @TheLongRider!

TheLongRider · 14/02/2021 14:30

The weather is shite over here, very windy and bucketing rain. So it's turbo or nothing and I'm not doing nothing!

drspouse · 14/02/2021 15:25

3.5 k just to do some errands. Really windy, nearly lost my lovely cashmere hat!

ErrolTheDragon · 14/02/2021 18:26

3.5 rowed

229.7 walked
30 rowed

LaLaLanded · 14/02/2021 18:40

Well done thelongrider that’s an epic distance!

Didn’t end up running today! So tired and elected to take my couple of hours of puppy free time to lie down and then have a bath rather than go for a run. Oh well...

Still on 356.9km.

Hoping it will be dry tomorrow morning early doors, so I can go for an easy run before entertaining DS and puppy all day! I used to take days of annual leave to chill out - no longer! Grin
