Third year for me aiming to be as active as possible most days. So join me in setting a goal and keeping on track by logging on here Smile. I’ve set a 500mile run target this year to be realistic as I’ve nursed foot issues most of 2021 which really curtailed my running miles but sea swimming and trail running have developed into my passions. What’s your challenge this year?

I’ve named changed too but have two HMs (one is a trail one...my first to attempt), two triathlons and a charity bike ride scheduled in this year if covid allows. Ooh and a 10m trail run in March. I’m only upto 8m so far so plenty of training to get stuck into this year.

DRC2004 · 01/01/2021 19:25

The old thread inspired me to set the goal for this year! ☺️ I am going to try and cover 1000km with a combination of cycling, swimming and walking. I’m new to cycling and hoping this will keep me cycling little and often to get strong and help shift my back pain. I’ve also found an online Pilates class that I love, hoping to do 100 classes over the year.

Started today with a 7km cycle - 993km to go!

BellsaRinging · 01/01/2021 19:29

I am in! Have a 10k and HM booked in this year and am hoping to run or walk 10k steps every day. 8k walk done today. 992 to go!

ErrolTheDragon · 01/01/2021 19:33

Here's a link back to the old thread if anyone wants it

ErrolTheDragon · 01/01/2021 19:36

I'm in, but as it's my birthday I'm having the day off.Grin
I'll be walking, and using the rowing machines on days when we can't get out. I'm going to try to do 5 km if the latter, more for walking.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/01/2021 19:39

My total for last year was exactly 1800km so I guess I should attempt 2000 this year.

amysaurus87 · 01/01/2021 20:12

I'm in for the 3rd year in a row! Aiming this year for 1500 miles of walking and 50 miles of running. I've never run before so I'm going to start by doing couch to 5k and go from there!

Any tips from seasoned runners?

TriSeaSwim2021 · 01/01/2021 20:17

Welcome all & hello amy I started running 4yrs ago using the NHS C25k app. I never thought I would start running in my mid-40s but trust in the process and it works. I’m sure you can do it especially after all your walking. I like it because when your busy with kids, work and life it’s easy to just grab your trainers to get 5k ran. Plus parkrun is a brilliantly supportive community which encouraged my kids to run occasionally too.

Inniu · 01/01/2021 20:51

Happy Birthday @ErrolTheDragon

I didn’t reach my target of 1000km running in 2020 but will aim for it again in 2021.
I am also going to start tracking my walking. More out of curiosity.

Today was 6.5km walking.

Jumbojem · 01/01/2021 23:36

Ok, I'm in again and will try to keep posting to the thread this year! I achieved 1000km of running by early Dec. I've set myself the target of 1000 miles this year. Hopefully my half marathon which is postponed from last year will go ahead in May so I need to get my mileage up.
Started off the year by doing nothing more taxing than a bit of yoga today though!

Peanutbutterblood · 02/01/2021 06:50

I'd love to join in. I'd like to cover 1000km through running and walking. I just hit 500km in 2020, I was really happy with that as I only started running last January. I currently run 5kms but hoping to work up to 10kms in jan and feb

officelady · 02/01/2021 07:29

I would like to join! I ran 1000k in 2018 then fell out of love with running last year due to lack of motivation (parkrun cancelled and no races to aim for).
I turn 50 this year and am determined not to give in to the middle-aged spread that is trying to take over! I have put on a stone over the last year which really shows on my 5ft body :o
I did 5k yesterday, will do the same today and will get out for a slightly longer run tomorrow too. It was really hard work (and slow) yesterday. I signed up to a Strava challenge to do 100k in January so I need to run regularly and reasonable distances each time.I want to get back to being able to do 5k for fun without feeling like I am going to die, and doing a leisurely 10k on a weekend.
It’s nice to have company on this thread :)

letsnotscaretheneighbours · 02/01/2021 07:48

Running here. I'm slow after injury the latter end of last year but intend to do 5k x 4 per week.

I go with the dogs so some days are quicker than others.

TriSeaSwim2021 · 02/01/2021 07:49

I sounded similar to you officelady a couple of months ago. I’ve got back to 5k feeling reasonably easy now but 10k is still quite a mental effort. I’m also a short arse in late40s, but I managed to lose a stone in Jul- Aug and amazingly keep it off. I’ve made fasting 14hrs overnight part of my normal day plus although I love carbs in all forms reducing them abit really has cut my belly fat. I’m still 2st overweight thought Grin but happy with my shape. I never seem to lose weight running though it just makes me flipping hungry!

hopewardrobe · 02/01/2021 07:57

@TriSeaSwim99 and @officelady I'm similar to both of you but taller Smile. A few years a go I stopped running due to poor mental health/ bereavement. I'm now starting again but finding it hard. I'm also walking more. Would love to lose 2 stone, I'm 44. I too am cutting carbs and intermittent fasting (only thing that works for me)

Would love to run/ walk 1000 miles this year. Off for a walk with a friend this morning.

Do we add our mileage on here? Also do we just count actual walks bit just general steps we do in our days?

ErrolTheDragon · 02/01/2021 08:07

We record mileage here - either when you do it or a weekly update, whatever suits you.
Also its totally up to you what you count - I guess it may depend on whether you're using a fitness tracker/app or not. I have an Apple Watch, and recorded walks done with the walking app on for GPS measurement, plus distances according to the rower when I used that instead. But at the end of last year I also found my daily average according to the step counter.

Whatever works for you!Smile

drspouse · 02/01/2021 08:14

I'm in!
I think I'd rather log proper outside walks (not steps round the house). Can anyone recommend an app for that? I have been using Google Maps for bike distance but you have to add up manually (but at least you don't have to remember to turn it on!)

OneForTheRoadThen · 02/01/2021 08:21

I'd like to join please. I'm aiming for 1000k running this year and probably another 1000k walking although I doubt I'll record the walks. I'm joining virtual run challenges each month so I'd like to have a nice collection of medals by this time next year.

LaLaLanded · 02/01/2021 08:25

@drspouse Strava would work well for that. You have to remember to turn it on and off, and pause if needed.

I’m in! I ran 1,000 miles in 2020 which I was pleased with - I’ve managed to start 2021 with an injury though so am hoping to get that sorted quickly.

Aiming for 1,500 miles in 2021 (I started counting in April last year and my average weekly mileage went up through the year) plus have signed up to the Hackney Half which I’m really excited about.

drspouse · 02/01/2021 08:25

(I can only walk at the moment)

Run1000km2021 · 02/01/2021 08:29

Hello all! I’ve been eyeing this thread up all of last year, admiring your achievements🤩

I really ramped up my running in the second half of last year (after falling off the wagon in the first half) and ran 500km across 6 months. For me, this is a lot!

So this year I am planning to run 1000km😱😱😱 I’ve worked out this should be doable by sticking to 5k twice a week plus one longer (>10km) weekly run. By making the longer run longer still in some weeks I should compensate for any weeks where I can’t run due to work/injury.

To kick it off I had a gorgeous 5km yesterday and I’m about to do another 5km🙂

badpuma · 02/01/2021 08:44

I'm in. I did 500km last year (just about with some driveway running to top me over the last .1km!) but I had to self isolate from the 10th March so was just coming out of self isolation when lockdown happened and I felt very uncomfortable about running until May/June so lost a few months.

I'm going to aim for 750km of running this year with an aim to getting running and walking over 1000km.

I went for a walk yesterday. It was lovely but very very muddy as the river has burst its banks. 6.8km done!

Run1000km2021 · 02/01/2021 10:56

Had a gorgeous 5km this morning! Together with my 5km yesterday this puts me at 10/1000🤩 I’m 1% done😂

Jumbojem · 02/01/2021 11:07

@Run1000km2021 I managed 1000km last year by doing what you plan, 2x5km and 1x10km most weeks. Through the summer when the weather was good I ran a bit more which compensated for can't be bothered/bad weather/injuries in the winter months.

hopewardrobe · 02/01/2021 11:14

Ok I'm going to aim for 1000 miles. I'm only going to count actual outside walks and runs. I've just completed an 8 mile walk so just 992 miles to go!
