Third year for me aiming to be as active as possible most days. So join me in setting a goal and keeping on track by logging on here Smile. I’ve set a 500mile run target this year to be realistic as I’ve nursed foot issues most of 2021 which really curtailed my running miles but sea swimming and trail running have developed into my passions. What’s your challenge this year?

First 5km of the month done. Really didn’t want to but so glad I went!!!

Weneedmusicandtheatre · 02/02/2021 09:58

5km done this morning. A soft day here so I got soaking but varied my route a bit through a new park which was beautiful but a bit hilly. It was, mostly, easier this time than last. I think the 3rd one on Friday will be hard as my brain will try to get involved! It has been great setting myself this challenge. We discovered that our DC can walk a lot further than we thought and so have been doing more of that as well. I am exhausted after month 1, but in a good way, if that makes sense?

It's grim here today, I'm not planning on setting a foot outside so kudos to you braver souls.Grin it remains to be seen if I CBA to use the rower, the wind howling kept me awake quite a bit last night.

Inniu · 02/02/2021 16:09

12km walking and 7 running.

Walking 119km
Running 109/891km

drspouse · 02/02/2021 16:22

Grim here too. I may try a YouTube stepping workout later.

drspouse · 02/02/2021 17:24

I'm actually asking for suggestions but have had no answers:

Thank you Smile sore legs today but had a wave jumping seaswim to ice the legs this morning and a dog walk followed by yoga with my youngest DD have stretched them out.

Running 123km
Swimming 4km
Cycling 85km

drspouse · 02/02/2021 21:36

The walking workout I did wasn't that great but at least I didn't have to go out in the rain. The physio said I need to work up to more exercise gradually. But that was a bit too gradual.

LaLaLanded · 02/02/2021 22:01

Congratulations @TriSeaSwim99 that’s brilliant! Sea swim to ice the legs sounds very brrrracing (multiple bad and intentional
puns).

Rest day yesterday and pretty grim weather today so just a chilled 8km for me today. Looking for 10km tomorrow but not sure how to fit it in with rain, keeping an eye on DS and a ton of meetings. Maybe two 5km outings. A juggling act!

LaLaLanded · 02/02/2021 22:03

Forgot! 261/2021km running.

Just heard the rain start up again... Hmm

FrangipaniBlue · 02/02/2021 23:14

Well done on the half @TriSeaSwim2021 !!

Swim 4.9km
Cycle 414km

drspouse · 03/02/2021 18:59

4k more walking today (got outside this time!)

ErrolTheDragon · 03/02/2021 19:54

It drizzled all day here. I was just about to do some rowing before dinner when I realised I'd forgotten about the weekly team meeting. Whoops.
Ah well, tomorrow looks like clearer weather.

TriSeaSwim2021 · 04/02/2021 10:48

A short leg stretch 3.5km running alongside my daughter on her bike. Short sea swim yesterday and 9km quick bike spin this morning pre workday sitting down all day.

Running 126.5km
Swimming 4.2km
Cycling 93km

ErrolTheDragon · 04/02/2021 14:41

9.3km

165.6 walked
21.5 rowed

drspouse · 04/02/2021 15:53

4.5 k walking, I was picking DS up from school so went the long way. Physio said I needed more hills in my walks!

LaLaLanded · 04/02/2021 22:24

It’s been a weird, bitty couple of days of running: weather, tons of meetings, homeschooling, general life... managed 10km yesterday and just over 12km today though. They weren’t high quality runs but I feel better for having done them.

Dragged myself out this morning for a slow and wet 6km run. Forgot to post after my last couple of runs but I’m now 176km down!

824 km to go🤩

I’m starting to feel a bit bored with running😳😳😳 I still feel amazing when I finish but when I’m out it feels like a bit of a chore at the moment. I don’t really push myself but I reckon as long as I’m still going out it’s better than sitting on the sofa.

Need some motivation😬😬😬

drspouse · 05/02/2021 12:41

Another 4k to a new park with DD. We are going to run out of parks.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/02/2021 13:51

10.1 km - we ventured out to the nearby small river today, which was a lovely change from pavement pounding.

175.7 walked
21.5 rowed

TriSeaSwim2021 · 05/02/2021 20:59

Gorgeous seaswim tonight sunset calm sunny after a grey day busy with work & homeschool it washed away the stresses of the week. Plan to run tomorrow after a week easing off with hitt, swimming & yoga & walks to recover post HM.

Running 126.5km
Swimming 4.6km
Cycling 93km

LaLaLanded · 05/02/2021 21:23

@Run1000km2021 I know how you feel - not every run has to be epic or quick though. An easy pace is good for just building your fitness base.

Ideas for motivation:

  • a new route? Seeing something new seems to help.
  • zombies! Run - it’s a really fun app.
  • YouTube subscription - tons of remixes, playlists and live radio

That’s it really. I also find it motivating to post next day’s plan on here - feels like someone is watching!

I’ve had a crappy couple of days running - tmi but a funny tummy, and now a tight hip flexor. Managed to get the kms in though, somehow.

Is there room for another one?

I'm usually a long-distance cyclist, I don't normally get out of bed for less than 200km but I live in the ROI where we are confined to exercise within 5km radius of our homes. We've been on lockdown since 27th December and there's no sight of restrictions being lifted until April. I have devised a 35km circle within my 5km but the weather has been shite so I've wimped out of doing more than 100km in one go. I do go for a brisk walk up the local hills most mornings and I've even started a training programme with TrainerRoad on the turbo.

I'm up to 400km to date in 2021 between walking, hiking and cycling with one 5km run for the craic!

As regards motivation, Strava monthly goals are helpful. There's usually a challenge for some discipline or another. I also incorporate a lot of "utility" exercise, so 5km round trip walk to the shops, 20km round trip on the bike to get milk etc. It all builds up. I'm also planning routes for when we are released...

ErrolTheDragon · 05/02/2021 21:51

Wow, that's awesome, TheLongRider, especially having done it within a 5km radius!

TriSeaSwim2021 · 05/02/2021 21:51

Welcome TheLongRider sounds like you are being really creative to stick within your tough lockdown rules. Well done on your long rides.
