DH and I have. Hoping it will keep me motivated and kickstart my half marathon training which has been non existent so far
Am aiming for a mix of gym, run, walk and cycle to get my target of being active every day and fingers crossed it's doable

Hi REDders.

I haven't been posting but I have been doing my runs/10k+ steps!

A frosty 5 miles this morning.
I managed to trip over, but turned into sort of a half ninja-roll, so I feel I styled it out & hardly anyone noticed.

Everyone noticed

I saw a tweet saying that 19 Jan is 'Quitters Day'

No idea how that's worked out (fake science at its best, I assume) but it's the point at which eoooe give up on their NY resolutions in droves.

So for every one who is still going, bloody well done!

(I've barely exercised for the last fortnight because of injury; 10k event today and really glad to be back at it!)

Still out for daily walks
Today gorgeous and sunny
Never thought I would miss running and the gym so much
Will have to remind myself next time I'm struggling with a run that I actually have been really missing it this last weekGrin

Sorry to hear you're still under the weather @hobnobsaremyfave

I have completed day 19. I ran slightly further than anticipated and ended up doing 7.5 miles! Hopefully I haven't overdone it and I won't be too tired tomorrow!

I've completed Day 19.

Still somewhat amazed that I've got this far. Have run/walked just short of 100km so far this month Smile.

@GroggyLegs 😂 bless you! That is quite funny and totally sounds like me!!!!
@AuntieStella 10K, the idea of it scares and bores me at the same time. Never done 10K, but I probably could, why would I do 10K? I do 5k in around 34 minutes if I don’t do my usual sprint madness thing. So say at an easy pace it would take me about an hour? Don’t you get bored/tired? I have a mental block about the 10K, don’t know why, but a lot of my running friends are doing 10K and are apprehensive about park run now. Most I ever did was 8k, and that was because I didn’t have a choice, I had to go back to the car.

Completed day 19. And I added another 5kg to the bar at body pump, it became too light as I am getting stronger, and I was swinging that bar like a tea towel. I regretted it when we did biceps. Not sure if it hurt, I was too busy preventing a vaginal prolapse.
And so we’re onto day 20...

Popping in late to the chat, but on track for my run. Have been doing dry January as well, and after a few months of treating my body like shit in the run up to Christmas, am feeling like a new person. Slightly scared about what will happen come Feb 1. Is anyone else thinking of continuing?

Report
HoundOfTheBasketballs · 20/01/2020 18:17

I won't carry on running everyday beyond the end of January I don't think. I will stick to 4-5 runs per week though, hopefully. And at least go for a walk on the other days I hope.

Day 20 - done ✅
I was working away today and found a lovely country park to run 5K round.

I'm completely knackered but determined and feel fitter and healthier. I did a 5.30 workout this morning before work as I'm out for a birthday this evening and no way was I ending my streak!

I am a bit worried about February 1st tbh! The chart has really worked for me (such a kid!) and I'm wondering if a similar chart for feb would be a good idea....what's been working is me telling myself what I'm doing for the week e.g. run Monday and Tuesday, weds Bodypump Friday gym. No matter what excuses come up I've told myself I am doing these things and cause of the chart I have. So wonder weather filling in a chart for Feb (set rest days this time!) would work...anyone thinking similar?

I am a bit worried about Feb tbh @CantstandmLMs
If I'm not going out every day I can see myself making excuses and then not going out for 3 or 4 days at a time. But I do hope that this has taught me that I have time for exercise every day, no matter what I'm doing.

Day 21 - Done ✅ 3 miles round the lake near my work. Very beautiful as the sun was setting.

Day 21 and Week 3 complete! ✅

I'm with you CantstandmLMs - ticking a box every evening seemed like a rather childish motivation tool but it's worked. Having a plan of what I'll do each day has helped and I think I need something in February to stop me missing days that then become weeks....

And yes, proof that I can find time to exercise every day even if it's just a brisk walk.

Report
CantstandmLMs · 21/01/2020 20:51

@HoundOfTheBasketballs exactly that, we have proven we can fit exercise in no matter how or where we just get it done! Something we can carry forward I hope!

My partner is doing it with me and we've been having really active weekends and actually loving it so that's something I also want to continue. Going on long walks together gives us time away from everything else to just chat along the way!

Day 21 done ✅
Had a 2h walk with the dog, then body pump:)

I was telling someone today about red, and the dilemma it poses once it’s finished. Not really sure... I love my running, just the 5k, so I’ll continue with the club and parkrun. That’s 2days of 7.
I have my little ritual on Sunday mornings: body pump, then a swim, so I’ll continue with that.
The day off in the week (it varies) I can do Pilates plus another class. That’s 4 of 4.
I think I need one more, then rest two days?

Day 22 - done ✅

It was ugly and painful but it's done. Today was the least motivated I've felt since I started. But I still did it.

Here's to trying to be a bit more cheerful about it tomorrow.

Today was a day I definitely wouldn't have gone out if not for RED. Once I was out and going it was fine but I had no motivation. Still mulling over February. I love having the decision made for me but also have not been pushing myself as I know Ive got no rest days. Was thinking of switching to a new challenge like the 30 days of yoga, and still running 3 days a week. But don't know if I have that much yoga in me Grin

I may go lurk on that thread and see how they are getting on...

Got out first thing this morning. Again, I didn't want to do it. But I definitely felt better afterwards.

8 days to go people...

Just ordered myself new shoes. Was due for a new pair but this RED malarkey is packing in the miles and am feeling a bit sore and I went to end the month on a high.

HoundOfTheBasketballs · 24/01/2020 13:56

I'm thinking of treating myself to something nice once we're finished @KillingEvenings maybe some new running tights or a wind proof top.

Day 24 - done ✅
Another lunchtime 5k near work. I left my socks at home though and had to run without them. Horrible!

Day 25 - done ✅

Parkrun this morning. Only 30 secs off a PB. Decent!

New shoes came just as I was leaving for my morning run so didn't get to give them a go, but am happily wearing them around the house.

Is anyone else just exhausted though? Not my legs but I can barely keep my eyes open. I'm supposed to go out this evening and am afriad of falling asleep during the concert. Unfortunately for those around me, I'm a snorer...

@killingEvenings - what have you gone for? I gave run in Brookes for years but they changed the support system and they're no good to me now 😭

I have been doing my steps & runs as work allows - going to make a final push this last week!

It's also inspired me to sign up for my spring runs, so I now have a 5 mile, 10k and 10 mile in the diary... Maybe a half in May.

I've gone for brooks again. An upgrade in theory from the launch 5 to ghost 12 but they feel pretty similar to how my launch felt new.
