Run Every Day January 2019 MIND

Just wondering who’s doing this? As a Parkrunner who’s been out of the game past 6 weeks with a trio of colds and morning sickness (cheers bump) I’m using this to get back on it.

Listening to a Podcast about it yesterday MIND are steering away from promoting running every day and instead being active every day.

My goal is to hit a modest 40min 6K by the end of the month.

As I have a 36minute 5K time I think this is a stretch goal without setting myself up for total failure.

Anyone else doing it? X

Hello! I only missed one day (Tuesday - totally exhausted & virusy) and today will be a yoga day, but apart from that one (and I donated in lieu) I'll have done it!

It's been a good exercise in building healthy habits. I think I'm going to try to continue alternating running & yoga, aiming for something every day (but without the pressure of having to).

Well done everyone!

6km jog around the woods today still icy but so glad I did it. 3 days missed and all paid up. Absolutely agree to it being a great tool for building good habits and I plan to continue running 6 days a week wherever possible.

Well done everyone Grin

Absolutely stunning 11km along the canal path this morning completes my RED January

355km, 220 miles of daily - sometimes twice daily - runs.

Featuring two 25km runs, the furthest I've ever been. I'm so lucky to be able to run, to have the time to run and to have such beautiful places to run on my doorstep.

Wow, that is beautiful, FATE!

One day I will have more time, and maybe when it's lighter in the summer I'll be able to go further to the places nicer than local housing estates?!

Lovely pictures fate
Well I did it!! Final run done. So glad I did this and thank you for everyone on the thread for keeping me going.
Well done everyone for achievements no matter how large or small.
And if I don’t see you on the running thread I’ll see you back here next year, same place, same time Grin

Brill pictures fate and amazing achievement on your running total.

Just a lunchtime round the block for 35min power walk for me today before endless rain/sleet snow hit. But yippee January is nearly done! Hit my total 103k ran Smile I’m pleased with that after a virus knocked me out for good few days in week2. Happy RED Feb!

Lou0390 · 02/02/2019 15:46

Managed 5k today with no stopping or walking feeling very positive.
I'm hoping I will be ready for my 10K which is middle of March Confused

Well done @Lou0390!

Well, this whole exercise seems to have made me someone who now needs to get out every few days at least. DH has been working away, and I've been snowed in with the DCs by myself for about 4 days (except Thursday morning- but I still had the smallest). So this evening I was twitching - someone way up thread said something about "if your tail is wagging.." - it definitely was! But it's so icy still here. Luckily, I found our old pair of grippy things and had a pleasingly brisk stride round my short route on the crunchy ice.

Feel better now! Looking forward to being able to actually run again though.

FATEdestiny · 03/02/2019 09:41

I've bought trail shoes for my winter running and have so far been fine in the ice. However we haven't yet had proper snow, so keep wondering if I'll need some of those grippy things as winter progresses.

I made it to the end too. No gaps. Nothing like Fate's distance but all good. I seem to have twanged my calf though SadHeaded out on Thursday for my run and pulled up short. It hurt. Ended up just doing a km walk on the treadmill. So rather than keeping going with RED in February I've rested. It is still tender when I walk though SadSadI hope it passes quickly. Any tips folks?

FATEdestiny · 03/02/2019 10:32

Any distance is great BrassicaBabe - you're already lapping those who spent the month sitting on the sofa.

I always run through twinges and pains, so probably not the best person to answer. I tend to Google as many stretches as I can find for the painful area and try to do the stretches as often as possible (I often use boiling the kettle as my time for stretches, so that I do them many multiple times per day). Then go easy for my runs, but still do them. With my aches and pains, they tend to reduce as I warm up and get into my stride, so are mostly painful for the first 2 or 3 km then ease off. It's sometimes so bad that I'm limping when walking or when I start my run 🙈 but I run through it and I'm always running normally within half an hour.

I recognise this isn't great advice, but it's what I do 🤷‍♀️ Resting might also be a good idea. Or other low impact exercise.

There's a great calf stretch where you face a wall, raise your toes up the wall as high as poss so that you're balancing on your heels. Then keeping your legs straight, push your hips towards the wall as though you are trying to lean your whole body flat against the wall. It's one of my favourite post-run stretches.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 03/02/2019 11:01

I did 79 miles in total which I am well impressed with as I had 4 days off with d and v bug gifted from my class! I am going to make up those days in feb and have done one already. I will keep up but won't feel pressured into every day.

Lou0390 · 03/02/2019 15:28

@DomesticAnarchist thank you! Have you managed to get out for a run yet? I managed 5k again today and felt I could have kept going. Actually finally understand this running bug everyone talks about Smile

DomesticAnarchist · 03/02/2019 16:41

Not yet @Lou0390. Cooking dinner now, then got to go out to work for a couple of hours, but might squeeze one in before bed time!
