Run Every Day January 2019 MIND

Just wondering who’s doing this? As a Parkrunner who’s been out of the game past 6 weeks with a trio of colds and morning sickness (cheers bump) I’m using this to get back on it.

Listening to a Podcast about it yesterday MIND are steering away from promoting running every day and instead being active every day.

My goal is to hit a modest 40min 6K by the end of the month.

As I have a 36minute 5K time I think this is a stretch goal without setting myself up for total failure.

Anyone else doing it? X

20 minutes of circuits (mostly glutes/core stuff) for me today. Trying to get my bum to pull its weight as it is the flattest bottom ever and I think my quads do everything. Tips welcome!

TriSkiRun99 · 19/01/2019 10:58

ParkRun sandwich done to get my fastest 10m and ParkRun time this year Grin now into the bath as legs are really stiffening up now!

SandunesAndRainclouds · 19/01/2019 12:49

10 miles on plan for today... having a CFS flare so I think today will be rest and tomorrow will be a new day!

AuntieStella · 19/01/2019 22:27

I did a 10k event today - pleased with time on a hilly course.

My streak is still streaking (if that's the way to put it) and my total for the 19 days is 70 miles (target for January is 100)

IRun4Me · 20/01/2019 10:41

Day 19 and 20 done. Yesterday was grey and sleety. Today was very cold and very frosty. But very beautiful. Although it was such hard work I really did enjoy it.
Well done AuntieStella I’m aiming for 90 miles but now wonder if I can go higher.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 20/01/2019 13:36

10 miles today. Slow and grumpy running but it’s done. Phew.

Verbena87 · 20/01/2019 14:11

Good stuff all. 2 quick (for my post-baby body!) miles yesterday to blow the cobwebs away, and 9 much slower and very muddy miles today (didn’t plan to do 9 but fucking footpath was fucking closed at mile fucking 7 when I was ready for an egg sandwich and a brew, so had to do a detour which was of course uphill! Proud of myself now though and lunch tasted great!)

TriSkiRun99 · 20/01/2019 15:16

Sore legs and a long day supporting my DD at her sporting event means it was quick yoga session this morning and there will be another later after sitting on my stiff legs for 9hrs today (driving & hard benches)

TriSkiRun99 · 21/01/2019 12:24

Ran 5 k this morning then went to an hours Pilates class. Still got sore legs/glutes from Fridays work out and Sat long run.

Mymadworld · 21/01/2019 13:36

First day missed yesterday - intended to go for a short run but ended up ferrying dc to various activities and then had huge Sunday roast . Really gutted but back on it today and planning 5/6km after work

FATEdestiny · 21/01/2019 14:46

Hi all. Just broke through 150 miles with my 245km monthly total so far. Was aiming for 300km, now aiming for 200 miles which is around 321km I think. 10km per day should get me there with some spare.

The increased milage over the month has definitely improved my muscle mass. While my weight hasn't changed all that much from December, I'm consuming loads more calories per day without piling on weight. So I assume my muscle mass is increasing and my understanding is that this increases your metabolic rate even when at rest.

I'm not really running in order to be able to eat more, but it's a very nice bonus that I'm definitely enjoying!

Thank you folks for the solid advice. I know you are right! It's a mental battle as much as anything isn't it!

So far no missed days for me. But then my minimum activity for a day is just 1k. On Friday I did my 1k at 23.40 Grin

Then today I managed my longest ever run. 10.87k. Preciously longest was 10K. My sodding watch paused mid run so while I knew I was over 10K I didn't know how long. If I'd known I'd have pushed myself the last few hundred meters. Hmm

Thurs 1k
Friday 1k
Sat 3.2k
Sun 1k
Today 10.8k

Fate those are impressive distances! Shock

Mymadworld · 21/01/2019 23:54

Managed a PB on a 5km today so must be doing something right Grin

AuntieStella · 22/01/2019 06:34

I'm wondering how to fit in a run today, but as my streak continues unbroken, I know I must. I had a running and Pilates combo yesterday too.

But had fallen for the 'it's the bluest day of the year' guff that was in the telly yesterday, because it did seem rather an effort (ie lacking in motivation to get out there, actual run was fine when I got going)

IRun4Me · 22/01/2019 08:35

Well done everyone for clocking up those impressive days and miles. Hope the poorly ones are resting and will soon be back with us (a few missed days is fine - it is so hard to do everyday when life gets in the way).
I’m still going. Though I am now counting down - 10 days to go.
Also coming down with a cold, I have asthma so am prone to it going to my chest easily. I’m hoping it is a nothing but think I’ll do a couple of gentle days so as not to overdo it.
We are nearly there Smile

BrassicaBabe · 22/01/2019 10:42

Mymad hooray for the PB!

Anyone thinking forward to February? I think I'm finding the running every day to be a good habit. Even though my 1ks are nothing to write home about they make the other 3-10Ks easier to get out and do if that makes sense? On the flip side I don't want running everyday to become like a prison or like not stepping on the pavement cracks with everything a little OCD.

Mymadworld · 22/01/2019 13:14

@BrassicaBabe I too have been thinking ahead and whilst I don't necessarily want to run every single day, it has been easier making it non negotiable (IYSWIM) and shown me that you don't need that many rest days if you're not doing mega mileage .

I think I will drop my short run on a Thursday as I go to a runner’s Pilates class anyway that night and drop to just 1 weekend run (Friday is long run day). I usually do parkrun but if for whatever reason I don't there's always Sunday to get one in and take the pressure off on really busy weekends. 5 days a week is still 2 more than I used to do and should make a big difference.

FATEdestiny · 22/01/2019 13:30

BrassicaBabe, I usually run every day. I don't beat myself up if I can't run some days (I missed 6 days of running between Apr-dec 2018).

Aside from January though, when I'm pushing my milage much higher than normally for the sake of personal challenge, I'm not usually concerned about distance. As long as I run, I don't care what my distance or pace is.

Exactly as Mymadworld said, it helps when you make running non negotiable. I'm always happy I've done a run when finished. So the non negotiable aspect removes the perceived option of saying "fuck it" and not bothering on days you're feeling lethargic. Indeed it's often the days when I'd like to say "fuck it I'm not going" that I feel I most benefit from the run.

I set myself a minimum of 5km, but that's just me. So on easy days (when others would be having a rest day and not running), I will just do a slow paced 5km.

Then if I'm feeling more motivated, or rushed and want to get the run out of the way, it'll be a fast paced 5km run. Or on days I'm feeling good, I'll do a longer run (usually depending on how much time I have).

I love running every day. It's part of my daily routine now. Just like taking the dog out and brushing my teeth; something I don't have to do every day but I know will make me feel better if I do them daily.

BrassicaBabe · 22/01/2019 13:52

You've both hit the nail on the head with the "non negotiable" aspect. Some of my rest day 1k jaunts have been post 10pm because it MUST be done. I need to carry that mentality forward info Feb

SandunesAndRainclouds · 22/01/2019 13:58

DD has chicken pox so my day time runs are out the window. DH works late and I don’t like running in the dark alone. I need some alternatives!

TriSkiRun99 · 22/01/2019 14:07

Just a 30min walk today, plus school run walk and maybe a swim later for me. Legs still sore from Sat and had a nasty cramp in my calf (a first for a year+) this morning. Was abit scary as really painful, luckily I was at home. It feels really bruised now, so I didn’t run this morning as avoiding injury is my No1 motto after several bouts last year.

Verbena87 · 22/01/2019 21:41

Nothing today as I did a 13 hour day at work (parents evening. Ooof!) and am dead on my feet.

Going to try a short run with the buggy tomorrow though. Suspect I will hate not having my arms free, anyone got any tips?

IRun4Me · 23/01/2019 09:52

Still on track.
I’m not going to continue every day once I get in to February. I don’t regret doing it and enjoy getting out there but it is hard work fitting it in and other things are dropping off. I plan to go 3 or 4 times a week but build up my longer runs. On the other days I want to get back in to other activities such as long dog walks, cycling and spending time digging the allotment!!

I’m so impressed with my achievement so far and hope that by dropping off some days I don’t lose my momentum or make excuses not to go as I don’t actually ‘have to’.

TriSkiRun99 · 23/01/2019 13:12

Lunch time 9k run squeezed into 59mins Grin beautiful cold blue sky day lovely running. Back to work now!

Mymadworld · 23/01/2019 13:17

Could only face a quick 15 minutes around the block last night as it started sleeting whilst I was out. Going with a friend tonight aiming for minimum 5km.
