Run Every Day January 2019 MIND

Just wondering who’s doing this? As a Parkrunner who’s been out of the game past 6 weeks with a trio of colds and morning sickness (cheers bump) I’m using this to get back on it.

Listening to a Podcast about it yesterday MIND are steering away from promoting running every day and instead being active every day.

My goal is to hit a modest 40min 6K by the end of the month.

As I have a 36minute 5K time I think this is a stretch goal without setting myself up for total failure.

Anyone else doing it? X

I really hope those millions are a typo for miles!

Oh my goodness yes it is!

Another vote for the underwired Panache sports bra from me.

CalmConfident · 29/12/2018 11:21

Another panache fan!

LastOneDancing · 29/12/2018 15:21

I ordered (no exaggeration) about 30 bras from boobydoo to try. Ennell, panache, random weird makes... See me in different sizes.
Still came back to my Shock Absorber Run bra Hmm

But it's worth doing to try some new styles in the comfort of your own home.

Has anyone seen any running bargains in the sales? I need a second odlo baselayer & new shoes.

LastOneDancing · 29/12/2018 15:21

See me = some

AuntieStella · 29/12/2018 16:04

Some big discounts on trainers at Runners Need at the moment (and a cut-price buff just fell into my basket too)

They don't seem to stock ShockAbsorbers any more - all Brookes and I don't know anyone at all who wears their bras.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 29/12/2018 16:51

I always wore shock absorber, but bought a sports bra from Victoria’s Secret. I thought it wouldn’t be as good, but ok as a back up / short runs. It’s more comfortable than the shock absorber! Can’t believe it, I swore by those bras Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/12/2018 17:01

I've a shockabsorber too - the active sports one. I can't get into the running one - I've no idea how you do the top bit up. Just bought a new one for £15 on amazon.

I've had unsuccessful trips today to a localish running shop and go outdoors. Rubbish choice in clothing. I'd like a lightweight long sleeve running top that I can wear on its own and I keep playing with the idea of the innov8 stormshell, but then deciding I might as well just get wet instead.

WeMarchOn · 29/12/2018 17:09

I have signed up for this, however I'm confused.
I'm sure i read you have to run/walk every day? I walk between 30-40 miles a week, however it's not every day I do this? Can i put that i will walk 50 miles in January?
Thanks

AuntieStella · 29/12/2018 18:00

The key idea is that you undertake some form of activity every day, but it can be short/easy

www.mind.org.uk/get-involved/donate-or-fundraise/red-january-faqs/

(I plan to actually run every day, but I run 4 or more days a weeks anyhow, so adding a very short/easy 'rest day' run won't be that much of a step . That might not be a good idea for everyone)

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 29/12/2018 18:15

I'm doing it. I've got the t shirt and laces and a led vest thing as I will be running in the dark.
I walked/ran the royal parks half in October and trained for that so am going to do similar for this. I plan to run Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday and walk lunchtimes on Mon, Weds and Friday. Sunday will be gym day.

I am actually looking forward to this as a health kick and getting back to how I felt when training for the half.

Oh and I am seriously slow when running so will be looking for sustained over time rather than distance.

Verbena87 · 29/12/2018 21:03

@auntiestella if the new Brooks bras are what used to be Moving Comfort (they look identical) they should be fab. My MC one is great and I’m hanging onto it in the hope that one day my boobs will go back to their pre-baby size (I know. But I live in hope.)

CalmConfident · 29/12/2018 21:24

Registered - hopefully t shirt on the way!

AuntieStella · 01/01/2019 07:54

And we're off!!

Happy New Year!

IRun4Me · 01/01/2019 10:50

Happy New Year.
I’ve been for a run Smile

SkiMum99 · 01/01/2019 10:58

ParkRun done Smile wouldn’t have gone if I hadn’t signed upto this as nursing the start of a cold but super pleased I did as nearly got a PB!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 01/01/2019 11:05

I’m totally dead after doing Parkrun this am. Am still not over the never ending cold and am quite taken aback at how much it’s taking out of me (being pg doesn’t help).

But I went. I did. Then I ordered a jogging buggy off eBay Grin

10km this morning. Lovely way to start the year

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 01/01/2019 11:37

Ran 4 miles and walked one this morning. Very slow but at least I am moving!

Run Every Day January 2019 MIND
StewardsEnquiry · 01/01/2019 11:45

I'm doing this too. I'm not really a runner at all but I limped round a very slow 4km this morning and feel better for it. I really need to make exercise a regular habit for me so hoping this month will be a good start.

Not sure how I going to fit in running when I have work.... but will figure it out on a day by day basis!

DomesticAnarchist · 01/01/2019 11:46

Hey! Can I join you?!
I'm all signed up and did just shy of 5k this morning.

I am not a morning runner - not a morning person in the first place, and when I do run in the morning I'm wiped out for the rest of the day. (Only on 5k too!)

So I have two questions for the experienced runners:

  1. How can I get better at morning running (or at least, post-run existence)
  1. Kit for running every day: how many items of each do you have and how do you manage getting it clean between runs? Or do you not? I have a sweaty chest (nice, right) so I think I might just need more bras to rotate round.
BrassicaBabe · 01/01/2019 12:09

Run #1 done. A gentle 4k.

BrassicaBabe · 01/01/2019 12:11

Domestic I'm probably a bit grubby but I'll probably hang my kit over a chair with window open and wear it again tomorrow. BlushBlushWith the exception of my "runderwear" pants. V comfy they are too.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 01/01/2019 12:24

I could probably walk it faster than I jog it but oh well! I work opposite a cemetery so I arrive at work half an hour earlier and go for a jog round the cemetery. I usually get at least two miles in so it all counts and I love seeing my watch have the exercise and movement rings closed earlier!

FATEdestiny · 01/01/2019 12:45

Kit for running every day: how many items of each do you have and how do you manage getting it clean between runs?

I've run every day (Well, I've missed 6 days) for 10 months. Always clean running gear, I get too sweaty and muddy not to. But we are a family of 6 so the nature of a big family is daily washing. Anything worn one day will be washed the next day and back in wardrobes the day after.

I own 2 × long leggings, 2 × capri leggings (and 4 × shorts for summer). Four running vest tops. Then I wear my teenager's football skins under my vests in winter - we've got 5 or 6 of these in various sizes and colours.

Then gloves, I have a lightweight pair and a thicker pair. I also wear a headband to keep my ears warm (also stops sweat running into my eyes and keeps headphones in) and a snood-type-thing for when it's very, very cold. My summer cap is also useful when raining, it stops my glasses getting splattered.

FATEdestiny · 01/01/2019 12:50

How can I get better at morning running (or at least, post-run existence)

I go directly from PJs to bathroom for a wash then straight into running gear. I find it better to do my run as soon as I can. I don't eat beforehand (or straight after either, ususlly) just a coffee before and a litre of water and coffee afterwards.

So in term time I get dressed into running gear, get the children sorted, take them to school and start my run from the school gates. That way I can be home and in the shower by 10am if I need to be.
