Run Every Day January 2019 MIND

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 27/12/2018 09:21

Just wondering who’s doing this? As a Parkrunner who’s been out of the game past 6 weeks with a trio of colds and morning sickness (cheers bump) I’m using this to get back on it.

Listening to a Podcast about it yesterday MIND are steering away from promoting running every day and instead being active every day.

My goal is to hit a modest 40min 6K by the end of the month.

As I have a 36minute 5K time I think this is a stretch goal without setting myself up for total failure.

Anyone else doing it? X

I’ve used the “couch 2 5k nhs+ podcast speed” which did interval training like you described.

IRun4Me · 16/01/2019 11:19

Day 16 ticked off.
Officially over half way!!
But I still hate January and still want to hibernate Sad

TriSkiRun99 · 16/01/2019 18:16

Yah Over the Jan halfway hump! Ran 5k tonight lovely clear crisp night but could feel the temp starting to drop brrr doubt we will get any snow we hardly ever.

DomesticAnarchist · 16/01/2019 18:36

Hello! I have had a few days of yoga & a lunchtime walk at work as DH is working away this week. But today was my day off so I did a post-school run buggy-run with DC2! He wanted to run too, though, so it was a bit slow at times. But technically I've kept up!

And, amazingly, the run this morning didn't wipe me out for the rest of the day. That's progress too!

SandunesAndRainclouds · 16/01/2019 21:41

5.5 club miles for me this evening. DD has oncology review tomorrow so I’ll be running up and down hospital stairs to get my steps in! Grin

Mymadworld · 16/01/2019 23:42

Nearly didn't go today as it was torrential rain but managed a 15 minute jog before coming home and doing one of my Shred DVDs. I would never normally have bothered doing either so feeling very proud of myself Grin

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 17/01/2019 07:41

Just having a big boo hoo here as I’ve been hit with an absolute whopper of a cold and I’m just absolutely done in.

What with being 19 weeks pregnant, having two under three and working FT at the moment (I’m normally 4days) everything has just come crashing down round my ears, I’ve even had no will to do my Yoga with Adriene in the evenings as I just seem to be crying most of the time at the moment.

I know there are others out there with much greater crosses to bear but it seems like every time I’m getting somewhere or getting a small victory I go back 900 steps.

I feel so ill and defeated. And I can’t even take a lemsip.

Be kind to yourself PaulHollywoodsSexGut that’s a lot to cope with normally let alone the slam dunk of a cold on top. Feet up, hot water bottle and rest sounds like what you need BrewCake get well soon

TriSkiRun99 · 17/01/2019 16:14

20min run, 3.2km dash squeezed in between work & childminder pick up Smile

IRun4Me · 17/01/2019 17:15

Day 17 done - ran to school pick up.
I agree PaulHollywood don’t be hard on yourself. Be proud of what you have achieved and are achieving coping with everything on your plate. If I had all that going on I think I’d be doing SOS January (Sit on Sofa)

Verbena87 · 17/01/2019 18:02

paulhollywoodssexgut it’s specifically about looking after mental health - sounds like you need rest to me. You’re already growing a person.

sanddunes I really hope today has gone well for your daughter. I’d no idea. Sending strong healthy thoughts your way Flowers

DomesticAnarchist · 17/01/2019 18:09

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut that's already more than enough activity, let alone the pregnancy and cold!

Make sure you take a few days off work to properly recover too.

Don't even think about feeling guilty for anything. Growing a human counts as activity every day (and at 19 weeks I bet that small human is pretty active every day too!)

Sofa, paracetamol and hot lemon & honey (nicer than lemsip too) till Sunday at least.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 17/01/2019 19:07

I ran up the hospital stairs.... all 7 flights of them. Then had to stand outside the oncology ward desperately trying to recover. The Sister thought it was hilarious!!

Good news for DD. 2 years in remission 💪🏼

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 17/01/2019 19:24

@SandunesAndRainclouds

This is excellent news and sorry for putting such a fat self indulgent post right underneath your heads up yesterday

I hope you are celebrating with a big glass of something or other xxxx

I have been doing this too, and have managed 1-2 miles a day, mostly treadmill due to the weather/dark. However a few days ago Iseem to have pulled a muscle in my back to one side or hurt my sacroiliac joint, and I am unsure whether to try and carry on or if there are any specific stretches/exercises I can do to help? Does anyone have any advice? I have rested it for 3 days now but it seems no better and no worse!

Verbena87 · 17/01/2019 19:58

sandunes that’s great news. Really chuffed for you.

Has everyone been blown away by Jasmine Paris’ spine race all day? In case you missed it and need do be filled with inspiration and awe...

What a woman!

I’m back to easy yoga as work is knackering and I’m not up for not enjoying my running, so will wait til I fancy it.

buckleten if it’s not getting worse you’re maybe ok to keep going, but I’d be pretty cautious if it still hurts.

TriSkiRun99 · 17/01/2019 20:57

If it’s in your back buckleten have you tried rolling a tennis ball up / down it on the wall. So stand with your back to a wall with a tennis ball sandwiched between you and the wall and roll your body weight on it by bending/stretching your legs to raise up/down your body. 😂Gosh that’s harder to explain than I though! Hopefully it made sense Grin

SandunesAndRainclouds · 17/01/2019 21:05

Thank you for the good wishes.

No need for apologies PaulHollywoodsSexGut I don’t do tea and sympathy, and I wouldn’t want DD’s diagnosis to change the normal stuff. I actually really appreciate the normal stuff, it reminds me that the chaos is temporary Smile

Mymadworld · 17/01/2019 21:45

Great news @SandunesAndRainclouds Grin

Really glad I went out this morning and managed 8km which is my longest since last October Smile

BrassicaBabe · 17/01/2019 23:56

I don't think 1k on the tread at 23.40 is quite on the spirit of RED but there you go. That's day 17 for me.

PaulHollywood I think you've got enough on your plate without adding running guilt to the mix!

I've lost my "long run" mojo. In fact I've lost a lot of my running mojo overall. In the summer I managed sub 30 5k and 10K in the 1hour 5 region. Then in Oct I twanged my calf and had about 6 weeks off. I feel like I'm back to sodding square one. If anything I'm getting slower. My last successful 10K was 1hour 14. My 5k is in the 34 mins region. And in 2019 each time I've set off mentally planning a 10K I've spectacularly failed. Did a 4K jog/ walk on one and a slow slow 5k on another. I'm broken!! How do I get back on track?!

(Sat in the garage on the treadmill freezing isn't going to do it!)

Sorry, that's my self indulgent whinge.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 18/01/2019 07:25

Brassica I’ve found that the best way to increase my speed is to do 1 session of hills, 1 session of intervals (I use lampposts) and a longer run. Once I’d increased my distance, then my speed increased over shorter runs. My average 5km is around 27-28 mins but PB is 25.24, 10km average 58mins but have run 55, half marathon 2:06. Marathons are shockingly slow around the 5hr mark.

TriSkiRun99 · 18/01/2019 13:57

BrassicaBabe I had 5/6 wks of no to very little running in the summer and it’s been slow build up again over a few months. My 5k in May was 29mins but I was back struggling to do 34-35mins in November, however doing what sandunes said has helped me. I’ve been building up again to a half and the longer slow runs, have definitely helped my 5k runs. I’ve been using ParkRun as my “fast” run as I normally run alone but when others are around me I’ll go faster, plus I’ve been doing some body weight strength building. Squats, planks etc which is also helping. I’d just take the pressure of the “times”, leave the watch at home and just go enjoy a run in whatever form and you may find your mojo slowly surprises youSmile or just do something else Swim? Roller skating? Cycling and take a break from running?

IRun4Me · 18/01/2019 17:16

That’s great news Sandunes
Well done everyone for everything achieved - no matter how small.
Day 18 done. I’m hoping I’m now heading out of the midway slump.

Verbena87 · 18/01/2019 18:03

brassica don’t panic. I’d had over 2 years off for fertility treatment/pregnancy/birth-injury recovery and still feel like I’m far from my potential speed wise but also, fuck it! I love being out, and a slow run is better than no run.

If you are bothered about speed, the 2 things I’ve found worked for fast times pre baby were working on my core strength (my times got quicker and it took me a while to realise why, but it was shortly after I started doing regular core stuff as well), and being as thin as possible whilst still being strong (but again, I’d rather eat cake and have an extra 5 minutes on my 10k time: life is for joy!)

TriSkiRun99 · 18/01/2019 21:25

No run for me today but I did make myself do 25mins of body weight strength exercises and I was puffing n tired at the end. It rained most of the day anyway, and I really need to get a long run in tomorrow if the rain clears early enough for me.
