London Marathoners 2018

Hi,

As the ballot results come out, thought I'd start a thread to discuss training plans and share the pain of getting up at stupid o'clock on a winter morning to get long runs done.

I was supposed to run in 2017 but my knee went kaput. Physio reckons it was just runners knee and said I needed to strengthen quads, glutes and core muscles (that are shot to pieces following two large babies) So I deferred my place until 2018.

I'm doing 30 Day Ab Challenge each night (made more challenging by husband "hilariously" making childish trump noises every time I sit up Hmm ) and mixing running up with Spinning and strength training at the gym .

Put loads of weight on while knee was knackered. Which is going to be the opposite of helpful for it so am on a diet to try and lose at least 2 stones (almost half way there now though)

Anyone found a decent 6 month training plan?

Xx

Runwayqueen Hello! Well done! I'm sure you can raise the amount, you'll be fab!

dueindecember10 · 17/10/2017 18:56

I'm in! Had my charity place confirmed this afternoon. Look forward to picking all your brains about training!

LoudestRoar · 17/10/2017 19:18

Congratulations december We'll all need to wear a mn scarf on the day so we recognise each other!

RunningOutOfCharge · 17/10/2017 23:08

I’m running for a teeny tiny charity... sticklers Syndrome Uk ... not sure if there will even be a cheering squad on the day

Also feel very scared about fundraising!!

ThursdayLastWeek · 19/10/2017 12:57

Hi everyone, this thread had fallen off my TIO.

My lung busting parkrun was a total mistake, left my chest really buggered so I’ve taken some time off while it recovers. I’ve also got the most painful revolting sore on my tongue of all places which is rather putting me off doing anything but eat ice cream!

Welcome Runway and well done to everyone running for a charity.

StrongerThanIThought76 · 19/10/2017 22:30

I'm in! Got my place confirmed through MacMillan today, need to raise big bucks but should be ok. Very very personal reasons for running with/for them, will be using training time as headspace over the next few months.
I've only been running 6 months, can happily do 5ks, need to up the ante now. I've seen a few 6 month training plans, gonna have a tweak to fit around my schedule!

RunningOutOfCharge · 19/10/2017 23:53

I’ve got 18 pounds to lose first!

Been looking at some new gear. Want to go for gait analysis and new shoes. Proper socks and maybe some aftershockz headphones. Reflective jacket, gloves and few t shirts and I’m good to go!!

RunningOutOfCharge · 19/10/2017 23:54

Looking at ASICS training plan

But can realistically only run twice a week

LoudestRoar · 20/10/2017 07:01

running I'll be using thr vlm beginners plan, but that's a 3 run a week plan. Not sure if it's recommended, but could you combine 2 runs from there into 1?

Zoesweet · 20/10/2017 11:35

I wish I could join someday. It's always been a dream of mine to compete at these event.

dueindecember10 · 20/10/2017 19:31

Does anyone have any specific training plan recommendations? Just starting to look through some but personal recommendation would be great.

RunningOutOfCharge · 20/10/2017 22:30

i ran a few years ago with no specific plan.....just a made up one by a personal trainer whose bootcamp i attended. got me through it, but was just the one run a week

I've now got a treadmill,so can do more

Runwayqueen · 21/10/2017 22:23

Well my tentative has just become a firm yes. Oh my gosh! I’m crawling running London Marathon.

I have a club Run tomorrow morning. The coaches are putting plans together for those of us who are running.

PickleSarnie · 22/10/2017 12:34

Congrats on getting your place stronger

My plans have gone to pot today. Went out last night and drank for the first time in 2 months. Dying today. Dragged myself to the gym though and managed not to puke on the treadmill. Pretty sure I was sweating pure Prosecco. Came home and ate bodyweight in toast. So annoyed with myself.

Off out for a run in a bit. We are going to the ‘park with the hill’ so boys can play footy

It’s a beast of a hill. So will use it

Hopefully with the wind behind me!

LoudestRoar · 22/10/2017 13:47

I'm just recovering from my first ever 10k!! In which I also got my fastest 1 and 5k time too. 10k time was 1.28.43, which I'm so happy with. Stairs are an issue now. 18k run in total this week, as well as 2 work outs...

LoudestRoar · 23/10/2017 15:05

Waaa! I have a blister on my heel. I've got a blister plaster on it, and haven't put shoes on today, hoping it will be ok for a run tomorrow. Didn't help when I smashed tge vacuum cleaner onto it earlier....

PickleSarnie · 23/10/2017 15:57

sorry to hear about the blister loud - I'd definitely recommend double layer socks. Wrightsock Coolmesh ii are my favourite but they're a nightmare to get hold off now. Used to get them on amazon prime but now there's an £8 delivery charge on most of them!

Hilly Twinskins are good too (although bulkier than the wrightsocks). The double layers rub against themselves instead of rubbing against your foot.

Tomorrow is my turn to have a lie in. Instead, I'm setting my alarm for 6:15am, so I can have breakfast and go for a run at 730....

PickleSarnie · 29/10/2017 10:44

How did the run go Loudest? I slept in. Just been for 55 minute run on treadmill. Wanted to do more but stomach had other ideas Sad Then did a bunch of weights and planks.

Will enjoy Sunday lunch guilt free now!

pickle well done!
Very proud of my run. 10.5 k in 1.30 Knocked 4 mins off my 10k from last week. Currently snuggled on the sofa dozing with my 1 year old

LoudestRoar · 06/11/2017 21:21

How is everyone doing? I ran for 30 minutes today non stop Grin0

PickleSarnie · 06/11/2017 22:08

Well done Loudest!

I did my first 10k since starting running again after knackering knee. Took me 71 minutes so wasn't fast but I reckon I could have had a conversation whilst doing it so there was more oomph in me.

Going to do a hill run tomorrow on the treadmill. Hate hills. Especially pretend ones on treadmill because I feel like I'm going to fall off the back so sometimes hold on and look like I'm riding a did so horse!

Drank for the second time in 8 weeks on Wednesday. Still had hangover on Saturday. Wasn't impressed with myself and Fridays run turned into a 10 minutes stagger before realising it was futile and I'd probably puke. So gave up. Back on the wagon again now!

PickleSarnie · 06/11/2017 22:09

^"rodeo horse" not a "did so horse"!
