Hi,

As the ballot results come out, thought I'd start a thread to discuss training plans and share the pain of getting up at stupid o'clock on a winter morning to get long runs done.

I was supposed to run in 2017 but my knee went kaput. Physio reckons it was just runners knee and said I needed to strengthen quads, glutes and core muscles (that are shot to pieces following two large babies) So I deferred my place until 2018.

I'm doing 30 Day Ab Challenge each night (made more challenging by husband "hilariously" making childish trump noises every time I sit up Hmm ) and mixing running up with Spinning and strength training at the gym .

Put loads of weight on while knee was knackered. Which is going to be the opposite of helpful for it so am on a diet to try and lose at least 2 stones (almost half way there now though)

Anyone found a decent 6 month training plan?

Xx

Pinkstars2501 I think a few of us on here have been using the My Asics app. It's really good as it bases your plan around how far you can currently run.
I'm doing 20 miles today (hopefully!) And will then taper. Not sure of the exact science behind it, but you keep the mileage in your legs with smaller runs. As the runs are smaller, you also end up resting more, meaning fresh legs on race day.

Pinkstars2501 · 30/03/2018 17:53

Ok Thankyou Smile

LoudestRoar · 30/03/2018 19:04

20 miles in the bag! Bring on the taper...

LoveAGoodToddlerTantrum · 31/03/2018 12:57

Well done loudest how did it feel?

LoudestRoar · 31/03/2018 17:10

I knew the last 5 miles was going to be hard, but I was surprised to get to 15 miles relatively pain free. I honestly feel like if thr marathon was yesterday, I could have completed it. The last 2 miles really dragged though! I'm very sore today. Making very interesting noises when I stand up!

Blackspaniel1 · 01/04/2018 06:18

Fantastic Loudest, it's such a relief mentally to know you can do 20 isn't it, and if you felt that ok with it, even better!

3 weeks today!!!! it's gone so fast... we have our last long run to do today, 22 miles. I need to get this one out of the way now and taper Grin. I've started looking at maps of the finish area and thinking where my family will need to watch from..... it's getting very real now.

Good luck to anyone doing their last long run soon, and fingers crossed I can still walk this afternoon!

weeboysmummy · 01/04/2018 15:36

Bit late to the thread but can I join? Also doing London 3 weeks today, my first and possibly only full marathon! Did my longest run (20 miles) on Friday and it was murder from 15 - 20! Though last week did 19 far more easily! Can't get beyond 20 miles now, 16 next weekend and a couple of short runs through the week. Did 6 this morning. Hoping to get round in 5 hours, which should be doable but after Friday I'm not so sure now!

Blackspaniel1 · 01/04/2018 17:59

Hi weeboy you sound like you are ready, if you did 19 easily, you will be fine.

I managed 21.8 miles this morning, was ok, but i was ready to stop! Feet and legs are aching, but did it in the same pace I have been doing all my longer at so hoping it's the same on the day.

Bring on the taper, I need it! It will be all over 3 weeks today!

Blackspaniel1 · 06/04/2018 17:20

Hi again..

Hope everyone is tapering nicely now. Has everyone received their final instructions email yet? I haven't had anything and I read they were supposed to send out information by Weds this week. Think it's available online anyway, just wondering if it's just me?

LoudestRoar · 07/04/2018 07:25

Silly question Blackspaniel1 but have you checked spam inbox? I got mine the first day. I'd email them if not

Less than 2 weeks!! I have a sports massage tonight. Hoping my knee gets sorted and I can enjoy tapering instead of panicking!

LoveAGoodToddlerTantrum · 11/04/2018 09:40

A massage sounds like a great plan. I've got 4 days to go until Brighton and my DD is home with a stomach bug. I'm being sympathetic but also disinfecting everything so I don't get it!!!

LoudestRoar · 11/04/2018 13:58

Good luck for Sunday LoveAGoodToddlerTantrum let us know how you get on! How have you found tapering? It's making me doubt everything, cos I've not run for 10days
...

LoveAGoodToddlerTantrum · 11/04/2018 14:38

I'm so glad you said that. Tapering has knocked my confidence massively. I find the first few miles of all runs really unpleasant so I finish a short run at the moment feeling total crap!

Blackspaniel1 · 14/04/2018 10:13

Ooh good luck for tomorrow LoveAGoodToddlerTantrum yes please let us know how you get on.

I just feel like I'm eating loads, not running much and am very bloated! I have been running still, so 3,5 and 3 so far this week, with 8 tomorrow but still feel like I'm being lazy. Can't wait to get there now, I've had such full on couple of weeks, Easter school hol, DD's birthday and I'm revising for an exam on Tues, but I suppose it's taken my mind off the marathon!

Hope everyone stays healthy in the next few days,.

It looks like it might be a bit warm in London, having done all my training in snow and icy conditions it will be a shock!

LoudestRoar · 14/04/2018 13:02

spaniel I had sun on my 10k this morning. Made it so much harder!

LoudestRoar · 15/04/2018 22:00

How did it go tantrum?

LoveAGoodToddlerTantrum · 16/04/2018 06:07

I did it! 4 hr 57. The 40 minutes walk back to the train was the hardest! It was great actually although I kept crying weirdly felt so emotional to finally be doing it. Miles 22-24 were tough but managed to walk and jog and grabbed some sweets off the crowd for the last bit.

LoudestRoar · 16/04/2018 07:03

Fantastic, well done! How you feeling this morning. That hill up to the train station is awful at the best of times!

bottersnikes · 16/04/2018 09:41

Well done tantrum, I did Brighton yesterday too (my first marathon), those last miles were really tough in the cold and rain.
Hope you can rest well today.

LoveAGoodToddlerTantrum · 16/04/2018 19:35

I'm ok actually Loudest . I expect tomorrow will be worse. Had to go to work this morning so had to get up and move! That last few miles in the rain where we doubled back started to play mind games with me bottersnikes how did you do? Did you enjoy it? Realised this morning I'd got sun burn!! Must have been before the cold rain.

Blackspaniel1 · 18/04/2018 06:42

Huge congratulations Loudest and botter you must feel proud of yourselves, you've done amazingly well.

Hope the DOMS have not been too bad in the past days.

4 days to go for me..... I can't focus on anything, my mind keeps wandering back to picturing myself at the start line, feeling sick! Grin

LoudestRoar · 18/04/2018 07:25

spaniel I've not done mine yet Smile

Blackspaniel1 · 18/04/2018 08:29

God sorry Loudest like I don't know you are doing London!! I obviously mean Love and have so little focus I mixed up two L user names Grin.

So Loudest are you local to London or travelling in? When are you going to the expo? I am travelling down from up north on Friday, going to expo Saturday. Am a bit worried about getting around though with the train strikes. I keep reading what people in the know are advising, but as I have no idea of the area, I am stressing about getting my number!

bottersnikes · 18/04/2018 11:39

tantrum, I was hoping to do under 5 hrs, but my body rebelled massively at mile 18, so I ended up with 5 hr 30. I definitely didn't enjoy the power station!
However, as it was my first marathon, I'm just pleased I finished and it hasn't put me off doing another one Grin

Massive good luck for Sunday, Loudest and spaniel Smile
