London Marathoners 2018

Hi,

As the ballot results come out, thought I'd start a thread to discuss training plans and share the pain of getting up at stupid o'clock on a winter morning to get long runs done.

I was supposed to run in 2017 but my knee went kaput. Physio reckons it was just runners knee and said I needed to strengthen quads, glutes and core muscles (that are shot to pieces following two large babies) So I deferred my place until 2018.

I'm doing 30 Day Ab Challenge each night (made more challenging by husband "hilariously" making childish trump noises every time I sit up Hmm ) and mixing running up with Spinning and strength training at the gym .

Put loads of weight on while knee was knackered. Which is going to be the opposite of helpful for it so am on a diet to try and lose at least 2 stones (almost half way there now though)

Anyone found a decent 6 month training plan?

Xx

pickle dh has some bone conducting ones, I'll get the name of them, if you'd like?
I'm just in from my 30 minute run. 3.5km in that time. I'm so happy! It was 30 second run, 30 second walk. I feel I could have carried on, but dh (who is basically coaching me through all this training) said to just stick to the plan. He has now gone to buy me cake as a reward...

RunningOutOfCharge · 12/10/2017 11:39

I’ve applied for a charity place via crunch, the charity places clearing system

I’ve been asked to give them a call

Scared now!!

LoudestRoar · 12/10/2017 12:35

Good luck RunningOutOfCharge

LoudestRoar · 12/10/2017 12:46

pickle they're aftershocks. They aren't Bluetooth, but they do sell Bluetooth ones...

ThursdayLastWeek · 12/10/2017 13:06

Morning all and good luck Running!

I don’t love my Bluetooth headphones so won’t recommend them. I just use the ones that come with apple products now as they stay in my ears.

My new trainers are great thank you! I did 4 miles yesterday and 7.5 today. New route, a circular trail, mostly flat compared to where I live and not too much of a drive Smile

PickleSarnie · 13/10/2017 11:52

Those bone conducting are bizarre!! But awesome looking!

Good luck running Have you heard from them yet?

I've just had my tooth out. Which was a great way to spend Friday the 13th. Sad
So no running for me. Apparently need to give it a couple of days before exercising. So will be mainly sitting on my arse until then. At least I won't be eating at the same time I suppose!

Sorry to hear that pickle I'm also on the sicky sofa, been up all night not very well. Luckily, today is a rest day, and tomorrow only a work out day. Hope I'm ok for a run on Sunday

RunningOutOfCharge · 13/10/2017 21:11

I’ve been offered a place!

£1200 to raise but it’s doable I think! Can’t turn it down

I’m in!!

LoudestRoar · 13/10/2017 21:58

Congratulations running really happy for you Flowers

ThursdayLastWeek · 13/10/2017 21:59

Yay, congrats Running!£1200 is a very reasonable amount I think, some run much higher than that.

Sorry to hear about bad teeth and poorly runners! I’ve got a bit of a chesty cough but not debilitating thankfully.

Rest day day, I’m going to parkrun tomorrow Smile

ThursdayLastWeek · 14/10/2017 11:54

A very slow but lung busting parkrun takes my weekly mileage to 14.5.
Drinks tonight!

LoudestRoar · 14/10/2017 13:09

Well done Thursday That's a brilliant distance.
I've missed my cross training today, still feeling rough. Hoping to do 7k tomorrow.
We're off to my in-laws next week, who live by the sea. DH is coming out with me, and we plan to do my first 10k ever! Am quite excited.

I'm also signing up for the worthing half, which is in Feb. My plan is to get up to 10 miles by christmas. Not sure if I should attempt the half marathon before then, and be doing more miles....

MaidOfStars · 14/10/2017 16:14

Hmm, I missed out on a ballot place but yesterday, was heavily encouraged to apply for one of the places offered by a charity that my friend is involved with. She basically told me she'd approve my application.

Am thinking. I had my eye on Edinburgh as a consolation prize. So I'm placemarking in case I decide to go for it who am I kidding

I ran York marathon last week so a few weeks of rest from running for me. I'm back to weightlifting and netball though.

LoudestRoar · 14/10/2017 16:53

How did you find it maid? Was it your first marathon? Any tips for complete newbies please?

MaidOfStars · 14/10/2017 19:11

It was my second. Manchester April was fab!

LoudestRoar · 15/10/2017 11:57

7k in 1 hour 1 minute, fastest 1 and 2k. And I just did a baby swim class with my son. Sofa bound for the rest of the day.... 12k total for the week.

LoudestRoar · 15/10/2017 14:33

Sorry, fastest 5k even! Knocked 4 minutes off last week. I cried when I got home, never thought I'd achieve these times or distances.

Blackspaniel · 15/10/2017 18:17

Hi ladies, just rememberd I'd not checked in for a while and wanted to see what you'd all been up to.

I sympathise with the teeth issue, I had a massive filling last week and it's not settling down...
Thursday, sounds like you are really getting focused :)
Running, congratualtions!
Loudest, think how you'll feel after nailing 26.2 miles!!
Maid, you sound experienced. I did Edinburgh a few years ago, my only marathon so far, it was great, flat and good atmosphere, good for first timers.
I have just done Manchester half today, little slower than last year, but was running with my daughter, her first half, and she struggled with hip pain from mile 8. Great race though, and we were only just over 2 hours, so happy with that. Got a 10 mile off road race next month, so keeping the focus for me which is good.

dueindecember10 · 15/10/2017 19:36

I hope to be joining this thread for real soon! I haven't got a ballot place for he 7th year of trying and am now trying my luck with charity places. It feels hard going at the moment though. Hope I get some good new soon!

LoudestRoar · 15/10/2017 19:49

Good luck December!
Black congratulations on the half, sounds an amazing time!

RunningOutOfCharge · 15/10/2017 21:14

I got my place through crunch charity clearing

I’m so excited!!!

dueindecember10 · 16/10/2017 16:18

runningoutofcharge who are you running for? I've applied for lots of local charities and waiting to hear back and crunch is my backup plan. I've decided 2018 is my year whatever it takes to make it happen! Smile

Runwayqueen · 17/10/2017 11:27

Hello all

May I tentatively join you? I’ve been offered a place with British Lung Foundation and need to raise £1800. I lost my grandad earlier this year and have wanted to run for this cause in memory of him.

Now I’ve been offered a place the self doubt has hit hard. I’ve done a few half marathons but never anything further. But I’m so frightened of the amount I need to raise. Friends, family and colleagues have all said they would sponsor me and I’m keen to do car boots etc. Argh choices Confused

PickleSarnie · 17/10/2017 12:01

Good luck December!

Welcome Runway! Fundraising is tough but I reckon a marathon is one of the things that people will generally always sponsor you for. The first time at least, subsequent times require fancy dress/doing it with a fridge on ones back!

I remember you from last year’s thread Maid - was only on it briefly before my knee went kaput. How was it? Must have been good to do another one! And then another one! Edinburgh would be fab. I lived there for 4 years and is just such a gorgeous city.

Brilliant time in the half black.

I did nothing for the entire weekend other than feel sorry for myself about my stupid tooth – or rather the hole where it once was. Was horrible having it out. Nearly passed out in the dentist – was so embarrassed. Went for 35 minute run at the gym yesterday though and felt fine so back on it again. Spinning tomorrow.
