London Marathoners 2018

Hi,

As the ballot results come out, thought I'd start a thread to discuss training plans and share the pain of getting up at stupid o'clock on a winter morning to get long runs done.

I was supposed to run in 2017 but my knee went kaput. Physio reckons it was just runners knee and said I needed to strengthen quads, glutes and core muscles (that are shot to pieces following two large babies) So I deferred my place until 2018.

I'm doing 30 Day Ab Challenge each night (made more challenging by husband "hilariously" making childish trump noises every time I sit up Hmm ) and mixing running up with Spinning and strength training at the gym .

Put loads of weight on while knee was knackered. Which is going to be the opposite of helpful for it so am on a diet to try and lose at least 2 stones (almost half way there now though)

Anyone found a decent 6 month training plan?

Xx

Don't worry spaniel GrinI live in Essex. I'm going to be travelling to the expo tomorrow, I'm going bring my two sons and my husband and make a day of it.
I'm lucky on Sunday, my friend is running for St Luke's Hospice and has got me a space on their minibus to the start.

Just wanted to say a massive GOOD LUCK to everyone for Sunday! I ran Boston on Monday and am really struggling with stairs today! The weather was absolutely horrific (heavy rain/30mph headwind/freezing cold) but I survived!

Have an amazing day everyone and soak up every minute of this very special day! x

I was also supposed to be doing London on Sunday but 2 marathons in a week is asking for trouble. I had to take 6 months off running last year due to injury so have deferred my place to 2019.

Theonly you beat me to it! Good luck to you all this Sunday. I did London last year, my first marathon, and it was amazing! I hope you all have a great day, take time to look around and drink it all in. Don't stress about the forecast heat, just take it a bit easier, use the showers ( I loved the showers!) and there will be plenty of water available. Enjoy!

Thank you so much! I'll update tomorrow....

Good luck to you all tomorrow

Good luck to you all for today. I ran last year and it was an incredible experience. Whatever happens just try to enjoy it and soak up the atmosphere.

It was hot, tough and horrible, but happy with 7 hours and 6 seconds. Covered 26.58 miles..

Blackspaniel1 · 23/04/2018 08:06

Hi all, back home in Yorkshire after a hectic weekend! Well that was not enjoyable at all from mile 18, god it was so hot, even at the start my face was burning from the sun. So, as expected, I took much longer than hoped, and finished in 5.15, half an hour slower than my first marathon.

At mile 20 I seriously thought I wouldn't finish, but I did and am so relieved.

The atmosphere was mad, the noise from the crowd deafening at points which was both uplifting and overwhelming. Tower bridge was my favourite bit as I still had some energy at that time.

Well done Loudest it was super tough. My strava tracked me as doing 28.7 miles, that can't be right, but it did feel like it Grin.

Well done blackspaniel and loudest. Agree that from mile 18 it was really tough and that the crowds were amazing and overwhelming at points! I came in at 5:01:50 which was also about half an hour longer than I expected. We can all be very proud. And knackered! I'm just about to have a massage 😀
