The newsest thread for all runners to chat and keep track of their miles. Everyone welcome for support, guidance and general running talk including very important kit choices Wink

Thank you all for your thoughts, having troubles with my stepson. Dh and I have been together since he was 3 and we've always done everything we can for him, he's here about 1/3 of the time but now doesn't want to be at all, is getting in to trouble and last week referred to me as 'your bitch of a wife' I'm utterly heart broken Sad

Glad you got out MyBlackCat!
Yes angry running is always good stilllearnin!
Good luck Anglaise1 in case I forget!

Very fast canicross run tonight saw a 8:46 and 8:23 min mile for the first time in a looong time. Almost ran back home as we started but glad I went now!! 268.7

Is he a teenager cinnamon?

If so, try not to take it to heart, however hurtful. My sister was the teenager from hell. Used to hurl abuse at my poor parents constantly, was basically a psycho. Is now a functioning member of society and on great terms with both my parents. How they didn't kill her at the time I'll never know though.

stilllearnin · 14/02/2017 11:22

I agree Keyser, if the foundations are good they come back round ok. Plus I have found almost any age capable of this kind of thing. All I can say is it can change very quickly for the good. I have been well and truly tested this last year because they know they can and my love is constant. It bloody hurts when your 12 year old calls you a whore and will not see you for 5 months, but she's been living with me for over a week now. All i can say is be absolutely true to who you are- if you've always show love keep that constant (not the same as being a doormat), have faith in yourself as a step parent. He's probably doing it because he knows you wont give up on him. Lastly be very kind to yourself Flowers

In other news I am just back from an uncomfortable 2 and a bit. My left calf tight as anything.

He is 15 KeyserSophie, I do think here's a difference between parent and step parent though. Only time will tell I guess stilllearnin.

Yesterday's run - two consecutive days after 2 weeks of inactivity have resulted in sore knees Sad I need to get the foam roller working on my it bands, I just know it's going to really hurt Shock

Steady run this morning, legs quite tired. Need to improve my sleep and diet I think.

Getting light by the end of our run today!!!!! Hurray! 290

A hurty 3.5 today (with a very welcome walk in the middle). Plan is to grin and bear it through the HM on Sunday and then start pretty much from scratch and build some strength rather than bothering about how far or fast I go...

stilllearnin · 18/02/2017 20:11

Just 1.3 this morning, testing out my toe and new compression tights

294.8

emummy · 19/02/2017 10:47

Did it! After 2 nights of rubbish sleep did 16 miles this morning. Tough but manageable, and a beautiful sunny morning, tho I started in the dark! Now I am doing the rest of my long runs on flatter routes, 700 ft of ascent was not fun!
Hope toe & tights are fine still!

DH back from his ski trip so I got out, have entered a10km in 2 weeks, totally regretting that- today's run was very very hard Shock

Anglaise1 · 19/02/2017 18:25

56 miles to add for the week, including today's 10k race, first race in 6 months. Haven't done a 10km race for over a year as I hate the speed and prefer longer races but was OK, did my fastest time (47mn) ever on that particular course which is difficult. 2nd in my age category (49 - 59) which was nice.

Brilliant, well done emummy!

Hope things go ok stilllearnin!

You'll be great myblackcat!!!

Long run from Sunday, alone as everyone I've been training with was injured, ill or busy but I did it! And a canicross run tonight that I almost didn't make it to after a bad weekend got worse when dh spoke to his ex about dss. She won't support him at all in getting dss to come to us so we basically won't see him, he apparently told her he wouldn't care if I was dead. Dh and I are so so sad and no idea where to go from here, I've got 3 boys who are missing their brother and I have no idea what to say to them Sad

Pyramid interval session done. Had toe vs wall incident last night, was worried I would have to rest but with strapping it was ok, so very relieved. Probably got a broken bone in the little toe but it's not bad.
Great result Anglaise!

Brilliant Anglaise1! 10k is my favourite distance.

Annoying run today with my neighbour, her dog was not being very cooperative! 395.3

Eeeek probably a broken bone emummy!?!?!?

OP posts:
emummy · 22/02/2017 08:09

It's only a very little bone! Think it will be fine. And may have a solution for the tiredness; realised today I got my thyroid pills mixed up. Should be taking a 100 and a 50, for the past 2 weeks have been taking 2 of the 50! Numpty! So hopefully putting that right will help.

cinnamongreyhound · 22/02/2017 14:14

Fingers crossed, my dh has an underactive thyroid. Took a while to get the dose right but he does always make sure he takes them!

Absolutely gorgeous run today. Best thing about running in 3 inches of snow is you can forget about pace! Gorgeous hilly snowy forest run!

Fabulous emummy!

We avoided Doris by running early! And the last mile was without headtorches.

Hurray for the longer days cinnamon!
Snow mostly gone today, just ice instead. Did a circuit of 3 big hills at a steady pace. Legs are just permanently tired now, the joys of marathon training!
Keyser are you doing Tokyo this weekend? Good luck!

Hello sorry I am not chatty. I am having a horrible time and I suspect I will be signed off sick again. DD took a massive overdose at her dad's. She had a rough week and out of hospital now but it is pretty heavy stuff. However, just before that I ran the Hampton Court Half which was lovely and highly recommended. So I do have 13.1 miles to add. Been pretty exhausted ever since.

424.2 I think

cinnamon I wanted to offer you some words. You and your family need to manage as best you can...I honestly believe your dss is doing this because he feels safe to do so and understands that you will always be there. You are perhaps going to have to go with what he wants for now and keep any form of communication open that you can. I have a counsellor who talked about increasing my parental presence. So you are still a part of his life even if not physically. This means keeping involved as best you can in his school, his friends, anything that you have been involved in to date. And can his brothers see him without you, even if this seems like pandering, let's hope it is temporary. Anyway I hope to get back to running soon.

emummy · 26/02/2017 11:57

18 miles done, longest run ever on a blowy but sunny morning. Legs shattered now, thankfully next 2 weeks shorter with the Inverness half coming up.
Still so sorry to hear about your daughter. I hope she can get the help that she needs to heal, mental illness is such a tough thing to deal with. I hope you have support too, it's a really hard time for you. Take care of yourself, hope a little running can help and that things move in the right direction. Lovely of you to manage some kind words for cinnamon after such a horrible week.
Best wishes to you and up your family cinnamon, I have no great words of wisdom to offer, just hope that it all works out in time. My cousin was very wild for a while as a teenager, in all sorts of trouble, now has a responsible job and a family, so hopefully things will go the same way for you all.
