The newsest thread for all runners to chat and keep track of their miles. Everyone welcome for support, guidance and general running talk including very important kit choices Wink

Thank you stilllearnin and do sorry to hear about your dd. I took an overdose when I was 17, I later realised how hard it was for everyone who loved me. Everything just seemed so hard and I didn't want to do it anymore! Hope you have someone to look after you while you're trying to look after her. Dss has also refused to talk to his brothers this weekend so I'm just very lost as to where to do. Dh's ex has been in touch that dss has an interview at a second 6th form college on 15th march and would he like to go. He's asked me what I think he should do, Ive told him he should go. I tail ran at parkrun and was very much run walk so won't add. I took ds2 to football today, was hoping to run before we left but ds1 was up for 3hrs on the loo so I had washing and cleaning to do from that, then went in to ds3 to find him covered in sick so more cleaning and washing Sad

I took today off in the end to stop the spread of illness and my lovely step dad came and sat with ds1 and 3 so I ran with a friend who works evenings and the doggies, we got a little bit wet bit otherwise a lovely run. 452.4

That's lovely cinnamon. I am no expert but my instinct would be for your dh to go with dss to the interview too.

I'm struck down with a terrible cold. Didn't leave the house today, so nothing to add.

KeyserSophie · 28/02/2017 08:37

stilllearnin and cinnamon - sorry things are so tough for you both right now. My DC are a lot younger so possibly I have all this to come. Anyway, thinking of you both and hoping for the best for you and your respective DD and DSS xx (yes, that's an Un-MN xx- dont tell anyone).

Anyway, I have 66km which is 41.2 miles to add to finish off my February.

Tokyo marathon was Sunday. managed 3:45:51- slightly angry with myself for drinking too much before the start, necessitating mid race wee and costing me that sub 3:45, but there you go. Got a GFA. I definitely paid for a lack of longer training runs. After 16 miles I was running on gels and a prayer. Didnt cramp too badly, just usual calf twinges, and I am a total convert to those arm sleeve thingies.

Anglaise I remember you saying after one of your marathons that the course measured long on everyone's Garmins. Same here. Everyone measured between 44.2k and 44.8k. However, I cannot believe that the Japanese screwed up the mesauring Grin, so I think it must just be a "thing"- the difference betwen running "the line" and not, and maybe also the impact of the buildings etc. The annoying thing is that it seemed to be consistently wrong- so the pacing on my watch was tracking faster than I was actually going. I realised as I was going through the km markers later than I should have, but my maths wasnt up to recalcing.

anwyay, seriously, if you ever get the chance to do this marathon, do, if only to marvel at how organised and clean the whole thing is- dont think I saw a single discarded gel wrapper the whole route.

Well done Keyser! Congrats on the GFA. I agree, arm sleeves are wonderful! You have cheered me up, sitting in bed with horrific throat infection, nice to see a good result.

stilllearnin · 28/02/2017 19:20

Oh emummy I think I am joining you! Flowers for us!

emummy · 28/02/2017 21:08

Oh no still! Hope it is over quickly. Got antibiotics today. Having to take a ton of painkillers, it's a choice between feeling sore or sick. Not happy.

Anglaise1 · 01/03/2017 08:00

Fantastic result for your marathon Keyser! You run so many trails that it undoubtedly slows down your road race performances to some extent. But not that much, 3h45m was the qualifying time for Masters 1 Females in France for the championship. Interesting that the marathon was so clean, the slippery discarded banana skins at every food station were quite hazardous!
I think the measurements of most courses are accurate, it is our watches which mess up somehow...the satellite technology must be unreliable to some extent but it is strange how all watches show the same error!
Thinking of doing the Mont St Michel marathon at the end of May, it is only up the road, I've done it in duo the last 3 years but quite fancy doing it in its entirety. After a tough 33km trail race on the coast end of April.
60.3 miles to add to finish off February. A little 23km trail race next Sunday, weather forecast is dreadful and it isn't an easy course but it should be fun.
Still terrible news about your DD, I hope things are better now she is out of hospital.
Emummy I hope your throat infection clears up soon
Cinners so sorry about your stepson too, I hope the situation improves

Thank you KeyserSophie! And well done on your marathon, amazing time!!! I knwonot doesn't help but you know that without your wee stop it was under 3:45.

Get well soon emummy and stilllearnin!

Good luck in your trail race Anglaise1!

I'm not sure what you added your miles to MyBlackCat? Previous Feb total was 556.9 and yours ended up 400 and something. Or was it new for march?

Didn't actually use my head torch this morning, amazing!!!!!! 4

Well spotted cinnamon I had a total mess up on 2 counts, losing 100 miles from Feb and not realising that yesterday was March!

Just a quick 5 miler this morning. Nice to be out on the trails again. Must try to get out for a longish run tomorrow as Sunday will be taken up with the DC's various rugby and hockey commitments.

Good luck on Sunday Anglaise. Am sure you'll smash it

7am "medium length run" to get back before DH had to go off to his outrigger race- Saturdays are increasingly becoming a tag team effort.

Felt surprisingly fresh post-Tokyo.

First run for a week. Legs sluggish but I felt quite well so pleased with that. Will get back into this week's training & hopefully be ok for Inverness half next Sunday.

I ran a 10km race today, I haven't run this distance too much previously, i wanted a sub 60 and would have been very happy with a sub 58. I actually finished in 53:47 - can't believe it, feeling very smug this afternoon Grin

39.5 to add for March so far including the 23 km trail race this morning at the coast. Wind gusts of up to 40mph so quite dangerous in parts as we risked falling off the coastal path onto the cliffs, but fortunately the rain held off for all of us who completed the race in less than 2H30. I had a really bad knee pain at 8kms and wanted to dnr at the food station, but couldn't find any red cross staff so decided to carry on and ended up being OK (and finishing 2nd in my category). Its funny, some others in my club who usually do the same time as me on road races were quite a long way behind. Trail racing isn't for everyone, but I love them.

cinnamongreyhound · 05/03/2017 22:17

Glad you're well enough to run emummy!

Bloody brilliant MyBlackCat!!!!

Well done Anglaise1 especially with the knee pain!

Did Cambridge hm today, not a great time as I ran with my friend at her pace. Interesting that I wasn't miserable miles 9-11 as I have been in all other halves I've done but it could feel more discomfort in my shoulders and back with the extra time running than I have before. Previous slowest 2:06 today 2:19 but I still ran a hm and I have an awesome medal Grin

Well done to all the racers- some great results.

Cinnamon I always get a stiff lower back after long races too. Glad the bling was good.

Anglaise Trail is just a completely different discipline I think. Quite a lot of really good road runners dont convert well, and conversely some pretty good but not outstanding (3:15 female marathoners) road runners go on to make world class trail runners, especially once you get into the really mountainous/technical ones. I have a friend who is a 3hr road marathoner who HATES HK trail with a passion - she finds it really frustrating that you cant compare one race with another, the terrain dictates your pace, it takes ages and you need to recce the course/carry stuff, etc. Her waterloo was when she got what was basically vertigo at the top of this steep, muddy, gully descent. Had to be helped down by an old man.

Quick 10.8k (6.8m) this morning before work. Wanted to go a bit faster but racing this weekend so keeping my powder dry.

Interval session today, was unsure how it would go after being ill but it went well. Managed all 12 of my 2 minute intervals, and don't feel unwell. Felt very tired and down yesterday - is there a marathon training blues?! Much happier today and it's even sunny!

Cantseethewoods · 08/03/2017 02:22

is there a marathon training blues?!

Yes, and I think it hits about now, when you're getting into the really long weekly runs, but it still feels like ages to go to the race.

Adding 13 miles from yesterday (sluggish road run) and this morning (much springier out and back along a forest trail).

Resting now until Saturday.

Oh yeah- I name changed. Pretty obvious who I was before I assume Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 09/03/2017 07:50

Yay for being happier and seeing the sun emummy!!!!

So.... we got dog number 3 Shock she's absolutely gorgeous!! Stray from a pound that gave her 2weeks before pts if she didn't have a home. Her first run this morning and she soooooo didn't get it! Kept stopping and sniffing and was a little frightened with me running behind. Took her a mile or so and she was running with the other two, last mile she was actually pulling! Clever girl Grin

That's great cinnamon, what a busy house you must have! Glad she's settling in.
Another run in the sunshine today, an easy paced one ahead of the weekend's half. Legs a bit tired after boot camp yesterday, but they woke up a bit later on.
