Evening all

Managed another workout todaySmile. A friend and I decided last night that we are going to start c25k as well, my plan is to do that for 3 days and work out for 3 then have a days rest.
My bad habit that I'm going to find hard to cut out is sitting in evenings once kids are in bed and snacks on crisps Blush I'll treat myself maybe on a Saturday just not nearly every night like before.
My aim (if I put it here than I will feel i have to stick to it and not back out) is to do a park run with my son beginning of March

Reastie · 29/01/2017 19:36

Great to hear about all the workouts. Not so great to hear about the casualty of yumys paint! Very impressed by amount of insanity asylum going on.

Ok, I need advice. Since my 10k on Thursday my right knee has really hurt. I have a history of issues with my knee. On Friday I had a rest day and Saturday I did a core workout to rest it. Today I did triometrics p90x3 but strapped it up to help it and near the beginning it made this awful popping noise and I felt something pop in there. It didn't hurt or get anything out of place but definitely wasn't good. I'm thinking maybe synovial fluid something to do with the popping (I have no medical experience though). It's not agony but it definitely hurts and exercise doesn't feel good to do. Even lying in bed or sitting I can feel it's not right.

So, I'm set to do step aerobics in the morning and I really don't want to miss it but don't want to get more damage, especially as all arm work is out of the question with arm injuries. So, do I take painkillers and do the class on lowest height step and hope for the best, cancel and have another rest day (I can't even do yoga workouts with dodgy knee because I can't do arm stuff so knee stuff) or maybe core day, or should I see the physio? I'm at pains to see a physio tomorrow (I bet they would find me an appointment where I go as there are lots of them) because I've been three physics at this practice and two have wrongly diagnosed ailments, but the third is fantastic. But I know she's great but she isn't in tomorrow and I don't know if I want to risk it with someone I don't know......

What shall I do?

Purpleraindeer · 29/01/2017 19:49

Oh no reastie. I'd just rest it and do nothing tomorrow (or swim if you have a pool near). Most running injuries are just overuse and resolve themselves. Fingers crossed for you.

Disappointed - good effort with the weight. I'm 120lbs. I can't imagine being thinner, but then again I thought that when I was 5kg more so I guess I could be....I'm now a size 8 and have a 6 pack coming thru but still have thighs which seem loads bigger now as they're all out of proportion as I still carry my weight there. Fundamentally tho I can't be bothered to diet at the mo - as demonstrated by the fact that I ate cake 2 days in a row over the weekend.

Poppy, you're on for asylum week. Gulp. Let's aim for each of back to core, speed and agility, strength and plyo by next Sunday. No need for skipping rope -you can do it without one. Well done on doing strength. I always found that one hard. Rest day tomorrow, so will start on tues.

Have a good eve all. Smile

Tsotofamily · 29/01/2017 20:11

Reastie - you could have torn a ligament, I would say another rest day. I would see if you could also get into see the decent physio. My friend broke her leg and the physio had given her the wrong exercises to do and it's made it worse.

Reastie · 29/01/2017 20:48

Thank you. I've cancelled my class and I think I'll get the foam roller out and also look on you tube for stretches etc that are good for knee injuries and try some of those in hope it helps. If it doesn't then I'll ring for an appointment hopefully with my good physio this week when she's in. I'm hoping it rights itself but so far no sign. It also helps to have other people tell me not to exercise as otherwise I feel really guilty missing it.

I'm a morning workout person here but always after breakfast has gone down. I can't do it on an empty stomach as it makes me feel too faint and ill. I'm currently about 145lbs which for me is mega good (5 years ago I was over 100 lbs heavier than that). I'd like to get into the 9 stones but tbh I would be pretty happy just to manage to maintain where I am now.

Tsoto Shock I'm now off to google torn ligament and see if foam roller weight cause any harm. My previous knee issues were down to my glute (despite there being no pain in my glute and all my issues were in my knee) but I don't know if it's the same thing or not. It feels a bit feifferent but it's been a couple of years since I've had the knee pain so I could be wrong.

disappointed101 · 29/01/2017 21:14

Reastie I probably wouldn't foam roll an injury..you may do more damage. I hope you feel better soon. I have a niggle right knee so modify some exercises. I rest if it hurts with normal activity.
Purple I so feel that about my thighs too. Honestly when I lose weight it comes straight off my tits first grrr, then belly. Legs and arse last to benefit, yet if I put weight on, straight to thighs, never tits. How is that fair?

Tsotofamily · 29/01/2017 21:21

Reastie - hope it mends itself soon

Seeing all your weights makes me want to weight myself now. Last time I did was about 2-3 months ago and I was 11lb 8oz. I'm quite happy with my weight, just my muffin top could do with going Grin. Right off to order scales

yumyumpoppycat · 29/01/2017 21:56

Tsoto good plan re workouts and good luck with Parkrun! Have you have been so focused on your baby that you are stuck in baby measurements by any chance Wink Grin

Brill Purple I will do one tomorrow and rest on tue as busier then.

Reastie I did something like that on my knee running up the stairs when dd2 was a baby. Make sure you are rested and drink lots of water as apparently being dehydrated can make knees creaky etc. It got better with rest. I have always worried about my knees as a result and always tended to be cautious with lunges etc but I think I might have been doing something weird when modifiying over the years and now find proper touch the floor lunges inordinately hard- so I would say it is worth seeing the good physio for some clear advice.

Theromanempire · 29/01/2017 22:04

tsoto 11lb 8oz Grin Grin

reastie bit late to the party but I totally agree that you should rest and then rest some more. I know it is frustrating but you could do more damage and have to rest on a much longer term basis. As an aside, an instructor at the gym I used to go to taught a zillion classes a week, used to teach through injury after injury (sprained ankles, back problems etc)...she has recently quit teaching classes to give her body a total break and allow it to heal. Powering through can do more harm than good...lecture over now Grin

My weight is far more than all of yours Blush I seriously do need to get a grip of eating- my portions are too big, I eat too many sweets and chocolate. Starting tomorrow, this needs to change!

Tsotofamily · 29/01/2017 22:25

Oops GrinGrin

disappointed101 · 30/01/2017 17:56

Omg p90x2 core very humbling. It wasn't a heart racer by any means but very humbling. It had you doing exercises with stability balls and medicine balls. Let's just say I modified A LOT! I have many things to learn. If I can take anything from it, I am proud that I know my limits and don't let my ego get in the way as Tony would say! Looking forward to what plyocide is like.
On another note I made the peanut butter squares from fixate today. Uh oh, let's just say I ate a bit too much. I dread to think the calorie count!!

yumyumpoppycat · 30/01/2017 19:11

Well done Dissapointed with p90x2!! Is fixate any good?

Up at 6 ish and worked from home today. I also did a weighted pilates lesson today and also asylum back to core, which was a bit silly as both core workouts (this is during my lunch breaks obvs ;) ) . Asylum wasnt all that crazy but it was hard and I finished early on everything some things. It was all quite burntastic - I may be sore tomorrow ooch.

yumyumpoppycat · 30/01/2017 19:15

snort - dissapointed I just noticed your next workout is called plyocide - eek.

disappointed101 · 30/01/2017 19:28

weighted pilates? That sounds interesting!! I like the fixate cookbook...quite a lot of recipes I have done. There is this special beachbody website where it is on offer at the moment, I paid full price grr.

Reastie · 30/01/2017 19:41

Hello,

Ok so I rested today and am seeing the physio tomorrow. Thank you all for the advice, I just can't risk doing anything worse so hoping a diagnosis and help on how to make it better/what I can do from a professional will help.

Saw the specialist today about the arm thing and I'm going to get a steroid injection in my shoulder. Apparently once it's done I can do NO EXERCISE For five days then only very very gradually (he talked about a couple of weeks before static bike and month before jogging assuming all goes well with physio stuff.

I know this isn't a disaster and hopefully it'll be worth it in the long run but I'm so panicked about the no exercise thing. They really really mean nothing. Not even rest day type stuff. I really struggle with hunger and this may sound weird but I find excercise not only burns calories to allow me to eat decently but also helps as a hunger suppressant. It also helps me cope with anxiety and stress and I'm dreading it but now I know I need to get it done I just want to get it done quick whilst I'm out of action with my knee and hope to limit the fitness loss. It feels like it'll be a long time before I'm able to do proper exercise again . I wonder how long I'll have to wait before getting the injection done.

Disappointed I remember p90x2 core being completely impossible with the ball moves and I just couldn't do it at all.

Tsotofamily · 30/01/2017 20:29

Disappointed - well done on p90x2

Yum yum - weighted pilates sounds fun

Reastie - hope all goes well tomo

I managed to get out and do w1r1 of c25k and I done a 10 minute Kettlebell video tonight as I didn't feel right not doing an exercise at home.
Not sure if I will do a workout tomo yet or not as my eldest is singing in young voices so need to drive to Birmingham, will see what time I've got once I've took dogs out and got other dcs stuff and snacks packed

yumyumpoppycat · 30/01/2017 21:37

Reastie Flowers you can do this. You eat really healthily which should help keep things in balance and maybe your body will welcome a rest? Can you go for a slow walk in the park/ round the block or maybe do some kind of meditation just to temporarily fill the gap left by exercise?

Thanks for link dissapointed will check it out. Pilates weights were light. It is weird how different pilates classes are depending on the teacher.

yumyumpoppycat · 30/01/2017 21:39

Ooh young voices sounds fun good luck for your dd tsoto.

Purpleraindeer · 31/01/2017 21:57

Reastie Flowers it is only temporary but I totally get how you feel. I'd be a bit anxious too. Can you redesign things a bit so you don't have an exercise shaped gap in your schedule - just fill up the time some other way just for the time being. Can you think of something else you could do to destress? Walking maybe?

Did asylum strength tonight. Argh. Omigod. I can't believe you were so blasé about that one poppy. I was all wobbly and weak afterwards. I thought it was seriously tough and I didn't even use the chin up bar. God knows what would have happened if I'd tried that. I looked in the mirror afterwards and my muscles were all pumped up like a body builder. Shock they've gone back to normal now. Phew.

Back to the core tomorrow. Also have a sore knee - must be in sympathy with roastie. need to rest up before I thrash it when I do the evil plyo workout again

yumyumpoppycat · 31/01/2017 23:14

Well done Purple sounds like you must have been giving it everything...think like dissapointed said with heavier weights it would be a lot harder, I went fairly light - plus I started off pushupping but went to my knees. Actually my knees really hurt the next day too and were a bit stiff this morning so I was glad of a rest day! Speed and agility tomorrow I think (gulp) I am nervous about this and Plyo. Will prob save the plyo for saturday or sun.

When are you having your injection Reastie? Does this mean you might not have to have surgery at least?

waves to everyone

Purpleraindeer · 01/02/2017 21:21

How did you get on with speed and agility poppy? I did it tonight too in the end. Managed to do one of the skipping moves I was too uncoordinated to do before, so that's a little progress. The DC love this one - they run up and down the ladder - and I may have taken a couple of opportunities for a little rest whilst they were in my way.....

Am a bit gutted to find that back to the core is not 25mins as it says on the beach body website. It's actually 50mins Sad. Will try to do it tomorrow but if not, Friday.

How are you getting on with p90x2 disappointed? Would quite like to try one or two but don't have a stability ball etc.

disappointed101 · 01/02/2017 21:34

Well done you Asylumers!
P90x2 is good! Not doing too much with the balls yet as I am not confident enough! Will work my way up. Love that there are 2 rest days. I really need them! It is really different. Not hardcore cardio but requires a lot of stability and core strength. I am looking forward to doing a programme that is not about weight loss but performance.
There is someone who doesn't use the equipment by the way.

yumyumpoppycat · 01/02/2017 21:53

Sounds good dissapointed - a different challenge aswell, the adverts for it are very intriguing Grin .

Purple I did speed and agility (sort of) it was hideous!!! Shaun T is just showing off now. OMG I will defo be doing it on a properly empty tummy next time Envy Did you manage rung 3 for the mountain climbers - I only got to the second one. The ladder is quite fun isnt it Grin. I didnt use a rope but still ended up with a stitch in the warm up Blush.

Not sure what to do tomorrow, prob a rest, I am thinking about the stretch one as I cant touch my toes and ST reckons that means daily stretching workout Shock . Also did Pilates again today as my package of classes was due to expire.

Tsotofamily · 01/02/2017 22:41

Reastie - how did it go with the physio?

After seeing all this talk about asylum I've just watched a short snip it on you tube, well done to you all - I think I'd collapse Grin
Had a rest day yesterday. Did a cardio workout this evening and went out walking with dogs for an hour too. Tomo w1r2 of c25k, then meant to be meeting a friend for a dog walk, might throw in a Kettlebell workout in there somewhere too

Reastie · 02/02/2017 17:32

Sorry for the silence my end. We had a sudden and unexpected family bereavement and everything has gone chaotic at home.

I'm now awaiting shoulder injection and crossing fingers they might do it next week. I'm still out of action with my knee. Physio has seen me on a treadmill and my running technique is weird, it turns out I walk and run all wrong and when I do it properly it feel s completely different. Far less stress on my knees and I feel it all up my legs and into my glutes, which I never normally do. Not allowed to run for foreseeable and feeling very lethargic from lack of workouts.

Did 40 minutes swimming on Wednesday, which sounds Moreno impressive than it was because I'm really slow and I can't move my arms when I swim because if my arm issues. There will be nothing tomorrow as I'm doing my extra job but I may try core on Saturday. I can actively feel myself getting fat .
