Good luck to everyone racing this weekend - Sirzy especially - go get 'em tiger!!!!

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 16/05/2014 21:25

I need some running gear - where's the best place to look, please? I need capris and shorts (both preferably with a zip-able pocket for iPhone and key), plus a couple of vests and short sleeved tops. I'm 5'1" and am size 8 if that makes a difference. I don't want to pay too much if possible. Thanks Smile

Doing my first parkrun tomorrow and I'm soooo nervous! At least I'll have 3.1 miles to add.

ThursdayLast · 16/05/2014 21:36

kitty you'll be great! it's so much fun honest. I swear by Sports Direct for cheap stuff, it's not super cheap, but it is branded. Those adidas trail shoes were about £27.

Thanks CQ, my sis reckons I'm going to get a PB. This glass of Wine says otherwise.

SIRZY it's your race this weekend! Aaaah! Sorry, I haven't been paying close enough attention this week but good luck thread master Wink!

originalpiratematerial · 16/05/2014 21:37

Oh good luck Sirzy - not that you'll need it, I'm sure!

softkitty - enjoy Parkrun!

fingersonbuzzers · 16/05/2014 21:54

Love those shoes Thursday

Sounds like you prepared well today Sirzy good luck for tomorrow and let us know how you get on.

Kitty hope you enjoy parkrun.

Unfortunately my preparation for parkrun tomorrow has involved eating an entire tub of Ben and Jerry's this evening. Friday night treat Blush

Sirzy · 16/05/2014 22:04

Thanks all, in the 'pink wave' (ie slow coaches) so don't start until 12.30 on Sunday so going to be a long morning! Hoping to get there early enough to try to spot a friend who is doing it who is much faster therefore starting earlier!

I got some nice new tops from Wiggle a few weeks back which weren't too expensive

Sorry, I meant good luck for Sunday, Sirzy, got confused there!

Morrigu · 17/05/2014 07:18

Sorry to hear about your foot and your cat flutie. Any news? I hope it has made a return for you by now.

I always wrap up warm after a run mitchy

No that was the last thing I would have a chance to enter fingersonbuzzers Lp to 2 young dc and I'll be hard pressed to find time for a run over the next number of months. My parents who help me out a lot babysitting are disappearing off to their foreign home in sunny climes for four months and eldest is off school for summer hols at the end of June. Ahh well these things happen. Grin the sugar is a good thing, no?

Enjoy parkrun kitty. I do most my ordering over the internet to try and avoid the mountains of pink that all the shops seem to stock. Sports direct I find a bit short on the body on me but I'm 5'7. Sometimes you can strike lucky in TK Maxx for a bargain but it's hit and miss.

Good luck for tomorrow Sirzy.

Right off to get ready for parkrun myself if this weather would make up it's mind what it's doing. Up early after having bad dreams about it - couldn't hear the starter signal, couldn't make it up the hill etc Grin

orangeflutie · 17/05/2014 08:29

Hi all thanks for asking about my cat and feet. It's not been a great week but it's made me a feel a bit brighter coming on here and seeing your comments. No cat news yet and the house is so quiet as he has such a loud meow. He's a very affectionate and funny Burmese.

No run for me today as feet still not right and have got to watch middle dd play cricket. Should be a good day for it though. Good luck with the park runs today and for Sirzy tomorrowSmile

Oh orange that's so sad Sad I'm sorry for you.

Hot and sunny and therefore exhausting Parkrun done so adding 3,1 to the total

ThursdayLast · 17/05/2014 10:21

723.1
Sorry, had to go back and check!

Fishandjam · 17/05/2014 10:24

726.2 now - another hot and sweaty Parkrun to add!

Morrigu · 17/05/2014 10:39

A cloudy, cool and trying to rain parkrun here so 729.3

fingersonbuzzers · 17/05/2014 10:58

Flutie Sad so sorry your cat is still missing. Hope you hear something soon and your foot gets better.

Ah morrigu that's such a shame you won't get another chance for a long while. Bloody well done to you for managing to run at all with everything you have going on - how was your parkrun today?

I'm back from parkrun, don't have my time yet but I'm fairly sure I beat my previous pb for my home pr. The garmin measured the course as 5.14 which I know isn't important it just means I'm going to wipe the final 14 seconds off my time Grin

Anyway, my average pace was 8:48 min miles which is the first time I've got it under 9mm so I'm happy with that as I think interval training and increasing my distance have helped me to maintain my form for the last 1k (which is where I was running like a zombie berore!)

Think my time will be around 27:35ish (still chasing that elusive sub 27 min pr!)

Hope everyone is enjoying the lovely weather (and not out running in it now as it's v hot here!)

I'll add my 3.1 to the total bringing us to 732.4

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 17/05/2014 11:04

4.6 miles from me this morning so 733.9.

I had every good intention of being out of the door and running at 7am this morning before it got too hot. But DP has taken DS to work with him this morning and I couldn't resist the temptation of a cheeky lie in! So I didn't go out til 9.30am and consequently sweated all the way round, and am still sweating now, 25 mins after I got back. I think I'm literally sweating out the fluids as fast as I am replenishing them!! Blush

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 17/05/2014 11:05

Oops cross post fingers. New total is 736 exactly. Grin

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 17/05/2014 11:06

No! Fat fingered typing, new total is 737!

msmoss · 17/05/2014 11:18

742.4 is the new total I did 5.4 this morning, bit slower than earlier in the week but I always seem to be substantially slower when I do anything over 3.5 miles. Anyone else the same?

msmoss · 17/05/2014 11:20

Sorry you still haven't found your cat yet flutie, keeping things crossed that she'll be back with you soon.

postmanpatscat · 17/05/2014 11:56

747.4 now with my parkrun this morning plus the mile each way. A slower one than usual, just under 28 I think. I'll blame the heat!

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 17/05/2014 12:27

750.5 with my 3.1 just now :). Slowly catching up to where I thought I was, speed-wise Smile

fingersonbuzzers · 17/05/2014 12:32

cardiff ooh well done on getting out in the blazing sun! I have done that before, took advantage of a lie in and regretted it later.

cinnamon I keep meaning to reply to say thank you for the advice on taking dogs on runs, will have a look at one of those (will have to be when the weather is cooler as she can't handle this heat at all).

msmoss I'm no expert but I certainly find I'm more hesitant over long distances as I'm trying to pace myself but never quite sure what I can manage.

While I'm here - does anyone else suffer with their confidence with running? Every time I do a parkrun I have this horrible sinking feeling of not being able to do it beforehand and end up feeling really despondent about it. It really takes some of the fun out of it :(

Morrigu · 17/05/2014 12:48

I enjoyed it thanks fingers. It's only my second one so I still feel like a bit of a lost soul even though ours is small. Think I'll volunteer after a few more to get to know people. No pb unfortunately, missed it by 13 seconds at 26.36. Wish I'd read the info about not going full at it the first time before I went. Sorry to hear you're feeling a bit low about it. Is it because of running with other people?

I also pace myself more with longer distances msmoss. They are still new to me so I'm not sure what I'm capable of speed wise yet and don't want to burn myself out too early. Tbh I enjoy longer distances more as I tend to just take in the scenery and listen to my music.

Mitchy1nge · 17/05/2014 13:22

wish flutie's cat would come home :(

surely is natural to have slower pace for longer runs? am pretty slow in general so there is only about 30 seconds difference between my 5k and 10k pace but for long runs it's whole minute more per mile

I have 2.4 to add, not sure how I got the last sum so badly wrong but is it now 752.9?
