I would have thought upto 5k would be fine tomorrow and rest Saturday Sirzy :)

Morrigu · 15/05/2014 20:55

Hope you recover soon emummy.

Some lovely pictures. I'm glad someone else asked as I'd also been wondering how you took the pics while out running :) I hate stopping for a pause in the middle of a run so it wouldn't be for me.

Love the quotes. I've seen the Garmin one before and it made me smile.

I was meant to be doing a 10k next week Sirzy and had planned for a quick easy few km on the Wed morning before the run itself on the Friday evening. Won't be doing my 10k now though as my appointment came through from the dental clinic to get my wisdom teeth out under IV sedation the day before. Typical! I considered rearranging but have waited four months for the appointment so I think on this occasion it trumps running. Boo :(

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 15/05/2014 21:30

Did 3.1 miles tonight so that brings our total to 668.8

originalpiratematerial · 15/05/2014 22:00

emummy sending "wish you better very soon" vibes!

originalpiratematerial · 15/05/2014 22:01

Eat.
Sleep.
Run.
Repeat.

That's great!

Mitchy1nge · 15/05/2014 22:39

Usually walk the dogs on the same routes once or twice each day so I take the pictures then. Nothing with me when I'm actually running, no phone or keys or anything.

Someone sent me a phone case with ear sleep run repeat on the back, anonymously. It's a great phrase!

TessTackle · 15/05/2014 22:59

What a lovely present Mitchy
I want to get an arm band for my iPhone, I have my favourite running songs on a playlist and I don't need it other than for my c25k and tracking my run so would prefer not to have it in my hand /bra Blush does anyone use one?

Alsoooo I've been thinking about wearing one of DPs vests in place of a big tshirt. I'm thinking no sleeves and the mesh of a basket ball jersey might be lovely to run in.

Runkittyrun · 15/05/2014 23:08

Run on Tuesday and tempo today is 13.7 so the new total is 681.51

Get well soon emummy

Very chuffed the official results from last week's race came out so new 5k PB is 25:58 Smile - this time last year it was 30:58.

Looking at weather and wondering on early starts or late evening this weekend. I don't cope well with the heat. Had thought about doing a local HM on Sunday but there is very little shade so would probably be pretty uncomfortable!

TessTackle · 15/05/2014 23:12

Well done kitty a good 5 mins is a great improvement right?

CQ · 15/05/2014 23:35

Tess - I had an iPhone armband but it drove me nuts - was clammy and sweaty and kept slipping down. If I put it on tight enough to grip, it was too tight Confused. Choose wisely!

Loving the quotes. I used to have a running top that said:

'Raceday strategy - start off slow - then back off'.

Which is so right if you knew how slow I run. I did once have a v serious runner approach me and say ' you know that's wrong, you're supposed to start slow then gradually increase your split times'. I think he'd run right out of sense of humourWink

msmoss · 16/05/2014 00:23

runkittyrun that's a brilliant 5k time well done.

I have an iPhone armband I got it in decathlon and it's fine, I run my earphones up my sleeve to keep them out of the way.

I occasionally run in a vest but find if I'm going quite far them I get a bit of chaffing around the top of my arms, but my vest is tight fitting, and I have active chunky arms.

sassytheFIRST · 16/05/2014 06:37

I hurt today. Knew it was hard yesterday but not this hard! But I always like to be a bit sore after exercise as that way I feel I've done something iykwim.

sassytheFIRST · 16/05/2014 06:38

Run kitty what a fab time!

orangeflutie · 16/05/2014 06:49

Hi all just reading about all the runs and missing it already. Something is going on with my left foot aswell now. Was standing in kitchen on Monday and casually resting on big toe when I felt a sharp pain and pins and needles up my leg. I went and iced it immediately but toe still feels sore. Don't know what's happened as can walk on it and have had an X-ray and nothing found. Think feet are probably just worn out! Going to get a referral to podiatrist and get it checked out as had an operation on left foot two years ago and because one of the nerves was cut have slightly different sensations in that foot anyway. Trouble is when I don't run my back gets more painfulHmm anyone else get this?

Sorry to go on but this week has not been good at all. My cat got into a builders van down our road on Tuesday and got taken to a town 12 miles away. He leapt out of the van in fright when it was opened and ran offHmm We've all been over to look for him but can't find him anywhere. Have put posters up and contacted vets so just hoping he turns up.

Back to running re armbands I use the Adidas mi-coach. It fits really securely. I have quite thin arms and found on others there wasn't enough Velcro.

Reading through some of the mottos has reminded me of when I was running the VLM. A man next toe had a vest on with 'I'm the white Mo Farah' written on it and someone else had one on with 'Who talked me into this?', and 'Never Again'. All made me smile. I think as I'm feeling a bit down at the moment I would say run when you can and enjoy the momentSmile. Apologies for epic post.

officelady · 16/05/2014 06:58

So jealous of all the fast 5k times - I dream of sub-30 mins. I'll get there one day!
Did 4 miles last night so that brings our total to 685.5 miles

I wear an armband, it's made of that neoprene stuff so it's quite grippy but a little bit stretchy and doesn't slip down my twig arms or feel too tight. I don't even notice it while I'm running. You can operate the touchscreen of your phone through the front cover bit, it's made of magical plastic or something like that. I tried running with dh's armband when I first started but it fell down all the time because I couldn't get it to do up tight enough.

I have never tried running with a water bottle and never intended to - until last night when I swallowed a million flies and one got caught in my throat and gave me a tickly cough which I couldn't get rid of. Turns out running + coughing is very testing on the pelvic floor Grin I would have loved to be able to have a swig of water to wash that fly away!

cinnamongreyhound · 16/05/2014 07:15

Well done Runkittyrun!!

Sorry you're feeling down orangeflutie, if it helps I lost my cat for three weeks and she just turned up! Could your leg/foot have been a cramp that's left soreness? Have you tried running? If you can walk without pain then go for a walk, hopefully that'll lift your spirits?

I've woken up really grumpy this morning and I feel like I need a run but it's a rest day and I do really need it!

I had an armband but as I lost weight it got too big, I then bought leggings with a pocket and that works fine for me now :)

LostMyPants · 16/05/2014 07:26

I did 1.7 last night so 687.2 :) My knees are beginning to be able to keep up with the rest of me. Still just wee distances but getting further all the time. Was aiming for 21k in May and I've done 11.9k so far, so on track.

A friend crocheted me a phone pouch. I wear it tied round my waist :)

MelanieCheeks · 16/05/2014 07:45

Officelady, I only started parkrunning last March, and my first times were in the 33-34 minutes. It took me AGES to get sub-30. It will happen, but it takes time.

I have trouble with slipping-down armbands too - I usually wind a headband or buff round twice and push that up under it as a brake.

Sorry about your cat orangeflutie, hope he turns up.

emummy · 16/05/2014 07:53

Sorry about your cat orange flute, I hope he is home soon and your sore bits get better. Thanks for all the get well wishes, sadly have had crap night with high temp and lots of trips to the loo so feel rotten today and think Sunday's 10k is very unlikely. Most annoyed! Good luck with your Sirzy, I had planned to do a wee fast 3 k today so as not to do too much. Have fun on Sunday

orangeflutie · 16/05/2014 08:07

Thanks cinnamon, emummy and Melaniecheeks for your comments re foot and catSmile

Don't want to bring this thread down so might start another to moan about my feet. They don't hurt much when I run but do afterwards so not sure how much damage I'm doing.

Chopstheduck · 16/05/2014 08:19

Aw orangeflutie hope you find your cat soon, and your foot gets better.

I have a cheap armband from sports direct for when I'm not wearing anything with pockets, it didn't fit my iPhone perfectly, and I did have to cut a little hole for the headphones but it stays in place and I don't notice it while running.

TessTackle · 16/05/2014 08:21

orange sorry about your cat and foot! Thanks

msmoss · 16/05/2014 09:40

Hope your cat makes it home orange! I haven't advice about your feet except wondering if your trainers are ok. My old trainers were really uncomfortable over long distances and I used to get arch cramp but not a problem at all in my new ones.

No running for me today but will hopefully get out in the morning for 50 minutes.

Fishandjam · 16/05/2014 09:51

Hiya!

I went to my lovely sports physio last night and unfortunately he just bollocked me for running too far and fast still Sad I need to do 2km runs next week, then 2.5km the week after, 3km the week after that etc. SLOWLY too. He also advised against the Alconbury 10k, bum bum pants arse. (His exact words were "do it if you like but be aware it will set you right back again." I hate it when people are right.) On the positive side, the calf massage wasn't quite as excruciating as it has been in the past, so all the stretching I've been doing is beginning to pay off.

I have a cheapo armband for my HTC which I bought off eBay for £4. It does slip down a bit but it stops at my elbow.

orange, that's so sad about your cat. I really hope he turns up soon! You mentioned that if you don't run your back hurts? I have that too (I have a couple of knackered lumbar vertebrae without much disc in between, but weirdly it all stiffens and hurts if I don't run!)

TessTackle · 16/05/2014 10:57

I'm not running today either, really didn't fancy it and didn't want to force myself and regret it. Instead I've tried on some new bras, all my clothes and cleaned the entire house.

Has anyone else gotten bolder with their outfits since running or is it just me?
