We are speeding through these threads much faster than I can run!

New thread for runners of all abilities!

6.8 miles from me this morning. So added to 687.2 that's 694? Can someone with a maths brain check that please? Will be back to catch up with the rest of the thread. When I've had a shower!

msmoss · 16/05/2014 11:39

Tess I definitely feel better in my clothes when I'm running regularly, my theory is that when you've strengthened your muscles you hold yourself better so clothes hang better. I also think that psychologically if you're pushing your body and it's working for you then you just have more pleasant thoughts towards your body, bit like goodwill. I'm probably not making huge amounts of sense but hopefully you get what I mean Smile

TessTackle · 16/05/2014 12:11

No no msmoss made total sense. That's exactly how I feel. Once my nails are dry and I've had some lunch I'm putting on a fuscia skirt and leopard print cami to go and pick DD up. 6 weeks ago I only wore black!

Babesh · 16/05/2014 12:24

Hi can I join. I think I am a runner:) did a week of the 30 day shred and jogged 3k then did 5k and have repeated it so it wasn't a fluke! Am plodding but keeping going. Feel tight round my ankles so not aiming for any big increases just a gentle improvement ...

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 16/05/2014 12:36

Looks right to me, Pirate! Add another 3.1 for me for yesterday, bringing the total to 697.1 Grin

originalpiratematerial · 16/05/2014 13:38

Welcome babesh!

KristinaM · 16/05/2014 14:29

Hi babesh

You are in totally the right place because here on this thread , big increases are totally forbidden, as they can lead to injury . You are only allowed to increase your mileage by 10% a week . And we all stick to that don't we ? < looks sternly over specs >

originalpiratematerial · 16/05/2014 14:46

orangeflutie, I will be keeping everything crossed that your cat turns up and that your foot is ok.

Tess I definitely agree that running boosts your confidence, clothes-wise - and your skirt sounds lovely!

I was brave this morning and wore my running shorts for the first time, and also my new white Gore cap. I felt a right berk going down the street but both were really comfy. I am determined not to give up running this summer because it's warm. Unlike last summer when I just gave up. So this morning I did 10 km in 1hr10mins which felt slow but was actually only 4mins30seconds slower than my PB so I was, retrospectively, pleased about that. (I ran a bit further than that in total but after that point it really was pretty slow!)

Fishandjam · 16/05/2014 15:26

Kristina, my sore shins are down to ignoring the 10% rule Sad

Mitchy1nge · 16/05/2014 17:13

Flowers for flutie, any news?

I have 2.9 to add which I think makes a nice round 300? At the time it was annoying because am sure my old garmin made that route exactly 3 miles but never mind.

am going to keep at my very low slow weekly mileage for at least the rest of May, most of the time am very thankful that I can 'run' at all but some of the time I feel a bit impatient and want to surpass my old running self, who was quite shit to begin with. It doesn't seem like much to ask!

vladthedisorganised · 16/05/2014 17:20

Welcome babesh! If you can do the Shred you can do anything Grin

No running for me today - home with DD and DH out until late, so satisfying myself that yesterday's circuits were fantastic and I'll be all the more enthused for running tomorrow.

Tess I agree that running really boosts your confidence - a year ago I was too embarrassed to wear running tights, let alone shorts - now I'm going out in one or the other - even in front of other people! My only problem now is getting the time to go shopping (next challenge)

Well done on your run originalpiratematerial!

My motto is 'owt's better than nowt' - if I have a disaster of a run or can only manage a small one, it's still better than if I'd not bothered. I think..

Mitchy1nge · 16/05/2014 17:23

I braved the temperatures today and ran in short sleeves Shock it was actually very pleasant, not sure it qualifies as a 'heatwave' though at about 21c!

anyone else freeze almost to the point of death shortly after a run?

originalpiratematerial · 16/05/2014 18:06

thanks Vlad and I totally subscribe to the any run at all is better than nowt school of thought. And if for whatever reason I really can't run, I do at least try to fit in a brisk walk. Actually, for several years before I started running, I did loads of fast walking (by fast I mean 7 km per hour) and Pilates a couple of times a week and I did lose weight and get fitter, albeit very slowly, so there's a lot to be said for fast walking.

Sorry, rambling there!

I've just made the serious mistake of going shopping whilst hungry and have landed home with an awful lot of carby treats Blush.

originalpiratematerial · 16/05/2014 18:06

Mitchy me - I get very cold after running, and sometimes my fingers go white.

originalpiratematerial · 16/05/2014 18:13

Oh - and on the subject of armbands - I used to have a Karrimor one that was far too big for my scrawny arm. I then got a new one from Runnersneed - Tunebelt is the make - and that's a much better fit BUT it doesn't have a velcro flap at the top. So guess who dropped her iPhone on the canal path and broke the glass, first time out with it in the Tunebelt armband Blush Angry.

fingersonbuzzers · 16/05/2014 18:18

Hi all,

argh - can't keep up, sorry if I miss anyone..

sirzy what did you decide about running today? Did you decide to rest before your 10k or go for it?

Runkityrun - woo hoo! That's an awesome PB and I, too, am jealous!

Morrigu that's gutting about missing your 10k :( is there another one you can enter soon instead?

Just to say I'm another one who gets cold after running, but often it's hours after, like in the evening..also often get a headache in the evening after run, but maybe that's dehydration?

So is anyone doing Park Run tomorrow then? I'm planning to trot off to mine - my parkrun PB is 27:25, but that was on a course I ran on holiday, my home course PB is (I think) 27:45 so will see how I get on tomorrow..

After that, I'm planning to volunteer for the next Park Run as I'll have run five and I thought I'd try to volunteer after every five runs. Will be putting my name down tomorrow. Has anyone volunteered and do you know if you get a choice of roles (blathers?) I quite fancy being a marshall as I know how much it's boosted me when I've got to the 4k mark and someone has smiled and clapped me. Happy to do anything though!

Also, while I'm here, can I just say how much I love this thread. Especially the mileage count - it gives me extra inspiration to get out there when I know I can come back and put my number on here :)

originalpiratematerial · 16/05/2014 18:39

runkittyrun I'd missed that - what a fab PB! Congrats!

Sirzy · 16/05/2014 18:51

I did a very gentle 4k this morning, then walked about 5k with DS this afternoon while he conned ice cream out of me.

cinnamongreyhound · 16/05/2014 19:29

That's a great attitude fingersonbuzzers! I wish mornwof our runners would volunteer more often. You can take whichever role you fancy, I usually send request for volunteer email on a Monday and am as accommodating as I can be on a first come first served basis.

I get cold too Mitch1nge, and I think the total is 700 not 300 Wink

ThursdayLast · 16/05/2014 19:43

Thank you both, just some cheapish ones from sports direct. They feel massive on my feet compared to my nike frees though.

CQ · 16/05/2014 21:23

Love those shoes, Thursday - bet they're really fast Wink

I've got a lovely sunny 5.2 to add to the total so we're now at 720. And 900 messages. Can we get to 1000 miles before 1000 messages??? Bring it on!!
