Thank you cinnamon I am just so chuffed

I went to gym did a few weights at lunchtime today and then went on treadmill and found it so so hard - just doing intervals with 1m at 12kph and then walking 1 min, so hard. I can't believe I managed to sustain 12kph for the whole 5k on Saturday - must have been the atmosphere and cooling edinburgh drizzle!

Everyone else - how do you keep up the running in between? I did couch to 5k and then three weeks ago downloaded some NHS audio fuel couch to 5k plus tracks but the music is not great. I need the motivation of someone telling me what to do! I don't think I can want to train to longer distances because I haven't the time, only lunchtime as I work full time and am single mum. One day I got DDs sitting outside while I ran up and down the street in the evening, but it didn't feel nice!! And was very dull! Do any of you know of good apps just to work on 5k? Speed, stamina etc

LottaMarten · 04/08/2014 20:08

Oh and by the way edinburgh did do a new runners briefing. It was HILARIOUS. The guy asked if anyone had brought one of those runners bottles of water with them, and held one up, you know the ones that you can hold with a kind of 0 shape? Anyway, he had one on him, and said, 'it's only 5k, you don't need one' and threw his into the long grass over the fence.. Then he got the two others in the group to throw theirs after him!

cinnamongreyhound · 04/08/2014 21:16

I know lots of people who say that LottaMarten but not sure they'd be that rude!!!!

I used to just run 30 mins three times a week when I finished c25k and I did travel a greater distance over the weeks in the 30mins and just being out running was enough for me. Come and join us on the general running thread

cinnamongreyhound · 07/08/2014 07:42

Getting close to parkrun day :) I'm hoping to run with little dog this week if it's stays that bit cooler as it has been the last few days. Although tropical storm doesn't sound great!!

karatekimmi · 07/08/2014 07:51

I'm off to my DParents in Filey so will head to the sewerby parkrun, hopefully with my sister!! Anyone up that way?? It'll be run 35 for me, so hoping for a t shirt this year!!

Blatherskite · 07/08/2014 10:33

I'm taking my children to do their first parkrun this weekend. Need to fire up the laptop and do one last check of the emails before it gets picked up by the next RD as I am thankfully not in charge this weekend.

Got some more tourism coming up too Grin

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/08/2014 18:11

kimmi I did the Sewerby parkrun in June - it is a nice run but harder than I expected - the last part is uphill on bark chippings alongside the golf course.

i'm going to France tomorrow so no park runs for two or maybe three weeks - depends how fit i feel when i get back on 22nd August!!

Best of luck to all the runners tomorrow

cinnamongreyhound · 08/08/2014 15:13

I just checked there aren't any in France but quite a few in Poland!

LottaMarten · 08/08/2014 17:19

Really?! Well i think it would be too hot!! Forecast to be over 30 next week!!

Blatherskite · 08/08/2014 17:25

There's plenty in Australia so I'm sure it can't be the heat that's putting them off.

The do start an hour earlier in Oz so they're done before it gets too warm though.

standingonlego · 09/08/2014 07:25

Hooray hooray it's parkrun day!

Sun is shining here, DS is staying home with kids so all is good...except the news on newsletter that no t shirts for a while so that elusive red top will be a long time coming even if I get these next 5 runs in :(

Why do the central team not ask if any volunteer experts out there to help them work out their distribution challenges months ago? Just a thought.

standingonlego · 09/08/2014 07:26

Have a good run everyone, look forward to all the news later.

Have fun parkrunners!
Wedding season for me starts today so I won't be partaking, never mind.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 09/08/2014 10:15

Gorgeous day here. It rained all night so it was nice and cool and there was a bit of a breeze. It was my first run in two weeks so I huffed and puffed a bit but got into step with a chap I've run with before which made me push myself slightly more than if I'd been running alone.

Despite 2 weeks off my calf isn't much better Sad

Stupid phone!

First parkrun in ages today

Hoping I've not gone too slow

cinnamongreyhound · 09/08/2014 11:06

Oh no sorry to hear your calf isn't better OhOneOhTwoOhThree but glad you got round.

But you did it LollipopViolet well done.

29:39 for me but I had done 4.5 miles before hand and ran round with one of my club mates I haven't seen for a while which was nice :) no.46 for me!

cinnamongreyhound · 09/08/2014 11:07

Missed your post standingonlego! They hope to have news by the end of August so you never know it might not be too long before they're available again :)

HalleLouja · 09/08/2014 11:22

Second parkrun today. Stoopid runkeeper paused itself. A friend said I did it in 27 mins 30 seconds though think that was a bit optimistic. Anyway I finished and it went ok.

HalleLouja · 09/08/2014 11:45

27.41 was my time. [Gives self pat on back]

LollipopViolet · 09/08/2014 14:14

45 minutes 20 here :) New PB by about 22 seconds, so I'm very pleased with that considering the break I had.

Felt a bit tight chested at one point, but I had that when I did my first run and then it went away so I'm not too worried - my mum, who is a nurse isn't either, because it's not an every-time-I-exercise occurrence. She reckons it was because I was running too fast Grin

Blatherskite · 09/08/2014 20:12

I took the kids to parkrun today. DD (aged 4) did it in 1 hour and 3 minutes making us dead last but she enjoyed it and as running club had asked us all to bring our children to make it a "family parkrun", the tail runner was thankfully expecting to be out for a while.

DS (aged 7) was amazing though. He took off with DH and they finished in 40 minutes!! He walked a couple of times but there are plenty of photos of him grinning widely as he ran round the course. I'm definitely going to have to take him again I think :)

thenightsky · 09/08/2014 20:14

After not running since May with torn calf I did last week with a struggle... this week I've knocked a whole minute off last week. Dare I assume I'm back in the game?

cinnamongreyhound · 09/08/2014 20:22

Well done Hallelouja, LollipopViolet, thenightsky and miniblatherskites :)
