Yes, same here. I'm volunteering, then missing a week, then it's the Easter weekend. Sometime in May, so we've plenty of time to plan Smile

May sounds good! Fishandjam, do you fancy it? I'll drive if you want.

Blatherskite · 30/03/2014 20:28

The first bank holiday weekend in May is the MK Marathon and I'm doing the Superhero fun run with the kids. The last bank holiday weekend is my birthday so I'm likely to be busy. Anywhere in between would be good though :)

Standingonlego · 30/03/2014 22:10

Gosh - I have calendar and life organisation on the action list for tomorrow so will work it out then. Had too much Mothers Day Wine to figure it out tonight Blush.

Huge congratulations on the PB time blathers that is genuinely amazing, well done you!

Blatherskite · 30/03/2014 22:33

Thanks Lego. After having 2 weeks off near the end of the course for flu, I was so pleased to actually make my goal

Blatherskite · 31/03/2014 22:47

Right ThursdayLast, hotels are all swapped - I'm coming to Lanhydrock :)

Just got to find the thing now! Have emailed the RD who says it's easy too but none of you have had to deal with my disastrous sense of direction before! Wink

Just got to decide whether to bring Mum and the kids to watch me run or leave them at the hotel so that DS can scoff endless amounts of buffet breakfast until I get back. At MK, I can easily be gone for a couple of hours as we have a real cafe culture and can be found crowding out the local cafe for ages after the run but I know not everywhere is the same. Need to find out what time we need to check out and decide if I have enough time to make it there and back before they get kicked out :)

Will I need my road shoes or my trail shoes do you think?

ThursdayLast · 31/03/2014 23:24

Yay Blathers!
Trail shoes recommended, I nearly went arse about face on Saturday in the muddy bits.
I personally haven't been to have a drink after due to 1yo at home (and being a bit shy), but it's only been going for three months so I don't think there's much of a culture developed.
Are you staying nearby? Literally off the A30 at Bodmin, then heavily signposted in brown for maybe 2 miles?

Blatherskite · 01/04/2014 13:37

We're staying in St Austell so that we can visit the Eden Project once I've run. Will make sure I pack trail shoes.

cinnamongreyhound · 01/04/2014 13:42

We had a lovely holiday in st Austell when ds1 was almost one, very wet though!

Meglet · 01/04/2014 13:51

I've turned into someone who keeps checking the forecast for saturday mornings (my young dc's won't run it in the rain). So far so good.....

thenightsky · 02/04/2014 20:40

Me and DS have never been rained on once since starting Parkrun last July. Amazingly good luck. Now I know why Scunthorpe is known as 'sunny scunny' Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 02/04/2014 20:46

We've been very lucky too thenightsky, we have had rain and snow last year but a lot of weeks the rain has held off until after 10 :)

First running of parkrun in three weeks this week, looking forward to it!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/04/2014 22:17

I've been lucky with the weather as well, only a couple of damp ones.

I'm volunteering this Saturday Smile

Blatherskite · 03/04/2014 12:48

My immediate - thankfully internal - reaction to hearing about Scunthorpe is to think "Sunny Scunny" nightsky :) I grew up nearby.

Missing parkrun for the first time in ages this weekend as my niece has inconveniently having a birthday! Wink Next week I'll be at Lanhydrock - possibly meeting Thursday? and the week after is my RD training the day after my next half marathon! I think I'm more nervous about the RD-ing than the half!

allalongthewatchtower · 04/04/2014 21:24

Hi all,

I need some motivation to go and do MK parkrun tomorrow. Been before and was going to go tomorrow, then partly chickened out cos of the smog thing (am asthmatic) but really need convincing to just go and get on with it.

I see there are other MKers here. The burning question - has anyone ever seen anyone run straight up the steps instead of taking the disabled access parth up the big hill at Willen? Grin

Blatherskite · 04/04/2014 22:27

I'm in MK but won't be parkrunning tomorrow I'm afraid otherwise I'd offer to say Hi.

You should go though. MK has a great reputation for being a really friendly parkrun and everyone is really approachable. Just a couple of weeks ago a big group of us buddied a group of beginners around the course - they had such a good time, I've seen a load of them on facebook tonight booking 10ks and even half marathons now!! It's not meant to be a PB course, it's meant to be challenging and beautiful and I think they pull that off well. The smog has mostly cleared now so I'm sure you'll have a great run.

And no, I've never seen anyone run straight up the steps. That would be cheating :)

MelanieCheeks · 04/04/2014 22:50

Ah there you are! Lost you guys for a while there

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/04/2014 10:45

Morning

I tail ran walked this morning. The Peterborough ED was doing some tourism so I walked the last bit with him (he was cooling down by then). DS1 and DH came too Smile

Morning! Took Little doggy today and got a 28:08 time, slow for me but enjoyable and I didn't want to push it after having a sickness bug Thursday. Such a beautiful day here :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/04/2014 11:00

Glad you are feeling better cinnamon

After this mornings shenanigans I think it's safe to say that 5yo DD is not doing any more parkruns. She moans too much and even the tiny kids over take her. We gave it three races and she's actually got worse each time. I'll get someone to babysit her so me and DS can run.

Parkrun need to set up a huge pen informal creche system so young kids can be left in the middle of the circuit.

ThursdayLast · 05/04/2014 11:31

So foggy here this morning, it was beautiful in an eerie kind of way. I ran with my sister this morning, who is training to do a Race For Life, but has never done a proper 5k before.
My time was 37.17, but I made sure she finished before me Smile so hopefully she'll have a confidence boosting time, especially as it is a relatively challenging course.

Ready for next week Blathers?

EauRouge · 05/04/2014 12:03

I was told they had to be 6 to run anyway, is that not the case? Not that I would take my DD1, she moaned that the Sport Relief mile was too far Grin A parkrun creche would be ace, I'd be able to do it every week then.

I was marshalling today, ably assisted by the DDs who had a little breakfast picnic. My local one has had a temporary course for ages because of flooding and they've decided to keep it, so no more big hill at the end- hello, PB!

allalongthewatchtower · 05/04/2014 12:11

hey all, well I made it to mk parkrun this morning Smile . Did it in 27.46 which I'm happy with as it's 42 seconds faster than when I did mk last month.

hope everyone else enjoyed themselves today.

Meglet · 05/04/2014 12:26

eaurouge there isn't a minimum age limit. I thought there would be but she's allowed to run. There was a 4.6yo there last week, who actually ran most of it. I certainly don't expect her to run it all, all I ask for is a walk, with some jogging and a gentle sprint finish, but she's stubborn. She blitzed the sport relief mile but parkrun isn't working for her.
