Another month, another chance to start/restart/continue the 30 Day Shred, or similar - ripped in 30, NMTZ, whatever your preferred form of torture exercise with Jillian you're welcome here for support, advice and motivation!

vag

try it! lift him/her by the legs for extra fun!Grin

MyNameIsWinkly · 03/10/2013 19:45

I'm alternating shredding and plodding slowly running, and today was a running day for me. 5k in 39.03, which is a LOT faster than at the start of the week. I doubt my times will improve as dramatically from here on in.

Tomorrow is a Shred day. I am on night shifts tonight and tomorrow, so my day off on Saturday may be a day off from exercise or it may be a Shred day, if I can be arsed.

deeplybaffled · 03/10/2013 22:13

Level 3, day 4 done but sadly, my workout t shirt has died in the cause:(

Was only an old and battered one, but I was melting in some of the early bits so took it off to do it in just my bra and shorts ( thank heaven I was alone! ) and when I tried to put it on again for the abs bit, I ripped a grapefruit sized hole in the sleeve seam.

Do I get extra points for shredding my clothes too?

ErrolTheDragon · 03/10/2013 22:30

Grin its you that's meant to be ripped and shredded, not your clothes!

One day this week I did mine in my nightie. It was dark and I hadn't laid out my stuff the night before!

conquita · 04/10/2013 00:40

Missed one day this week Blush but caught up today and found level 2 so much easier [not showing off honesttogod] it makes you realise how your body can adapt to this workout. I could put my makeup on this morning over a normal coloured face rather than the bright red one that appeared at the start of the week! I feel I can concentrate more on technique now rather than just trying to stick with it and not die. Two off now as I do pilates on a Saturday, Sunday is a day off, so will start level 2 again on Monday! Have a great weekend all.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/10/2013 09:16

L1D2 of Ri30. Apart from that leg raise abs, I quite enjoyed that. Oh, and the 'running man' cardio turns out more like an uncoordinated 'spotty dog' walk (The woodentops were a bit before my time even so probably a lot of you wont get that reference).

OP posts:
wasabipeanut · 04/10/2013 09:31

Conquita you are way ahead of me! I am still huffing and puffing through L1. I am way scared of L2.

Not feeling so good today. I managed to complete all the cardio (even bastard jumping jacks and bicycle crunches) so my body is already adapting but today I just feel tired. Yesterday I was energised and invigorated if still a little ouchy in the thighs!

I am looking forward to a day off on Sunday.

ZingWantsCake · 04/10/2013 17:05

done L1D4

I did some of the things today closer to Natalie style.

still had "catch your breath" moments, but way less then 3 days ago!

However I do have a problem with getting up quickly from floor, it makes me feel dizzy.

I do need a proper sports bra and weights - I'm on it!

ErrolTheDragon · 04/10/2013 17:54

Well done! Smile
Get up slower then - its not a race. Better to take a moment longer and avoid trying to do the next thing while dizzy, I'd have thought.

Level 3, day 5 done. Lord, that was hard work even to get myself out from the depths of the sofa! Thank god for a planned day off tomorrow:)
sleepyhead33 , how are you getting on? I miss having someone level with me to keep me staggering onwards!

ErrolTheDragon · 04/10/2013 22:48

I'm somewhat in awe of anyone who manages to exercise at night! Enjoy your rest day. I'll take my usual full weekend though should be doing something active.

DH prodded my thigh this evening and commented how much firmer it felt. Grin

Always good when someone else can see the progress you've made!

and I am an owl by nature, so night exercise is much easier for me- the thought of doing it in the morning before work would just make me sob into my pillow;)

Vagazzled · 05/10/2013 00:17

Forgot to add earlier L1D4 done! Smile

ZingWantsCake · 05/10/2013 08:51

morning all.

I watched level 2 yesterday out of interest - it seem so easy when you are NOT doing it!Grin

Cityofgold · 05/10/2013 21:39

Hi

Apologies if this question has been asked and answered elsewhere but I am new to Mumsnet and the Shred all in the last week! I did L1 Day 1 today but I'm just watching the videos on you tube and I cant seem to work out when you change up to the next level, if at all. Do you do 30 days at one level and then onto the next (I dont think so) or is it perhaps 10 days at each level (seems more likely). Thanks.

ZingWantsCake · 05/10/2013 22:04

having a rest day today.
tried on some sportsbras but it was a disaster (I ran away crying)

I have been given some good advice and hoping to get a fab pair of bras asap.

city

I'm a newbie too and was advised to do ten days for each level.
although if you need more on each level I'm sure that's ok too.

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 05/10/2013 22:48

City You do it for 4-6 weeks, ten days or two weeks per level. A rest and recovery day is advised once a week.

You can do it slower if you like; it really pays to get press ups sorted out and strengthen your core and do extra quad stretches holding furniture in l1.

It's normal to ache first 3 days.

ZingWantsCake · 05/10/2013 23:01

trucks how are your ribs?

MsFiremanSam · 05/10/2013 23:05

Hi,
Hope you don't mind me joining in. I'm thinking of starting the Shred this week but had my DD 7 weeks ago - before pregnancy I was regularly doing a mix of JM DVD's and was probably the fittest I've ever been. Now I've got 2 stone of baby weight still to shift and am desperate to get going! Is it too soon? Also wondering if the abs sections will be too much this early?
Any advice appreciated!

ZingWantsCake · 05/10/2013 23:35

MsFireman

hi!

before any abs work you must make sure that the vertical abdominal muscles that separate during pg are back together.

you can check this for yoyrself. I'll try to explain, but I'm sorry if my description is not very clear.

lie own the floor on your back, pull your knees up but feet on the floor, so like this:

Grin_/_

now place your thumb (or index and middle finger) about 3 inches above* your belly button and gently push into abdomen about an inch deep - keep it like that and do a slow ab crunch (sit up).
you should feel your muscles closing in on your thumb.

if they close completely and kind of push your thumb out you are fine.
if there is any gap you are not ready yet.

repeat the same way a few inches below° the belly button.

  • and ° I mean as if you were standig up so

??? boobs
..|..? check along this "line"(above)
..•..?belly button
..|...?check along this "line" (below)
..^...?foof

if bf excersice after a feed when breasts are less heavy.

I think the jumping jacks might be too much.

also your ligaments need settling back and that can take a few months - I'd worry you might give yourself an injury tbh.
obviously the best thing is to try and see for yourself, but I'd start with something lower impact for now then revisit the idea when baby is about 3 months old.

and congratulations - were you on the due anyday thread?

MsFiremanSam · 06/10/2013 04:37

Hi Zing,
Yes, I was on the Due thread! Feels like a lifetime ago now!
Thanks for the advice. Had a quick probe and think I've still got a good 2-3 finger gap. Been doing some strengthening exercises designed for after birth so could replace JM's abs moves with those. Agree the jacks may be too much...and I seem to remember some sort of evil jumping squat that probably wouldn't suit my pelvic floor at the moment!
Will hang on another few weeks then and keep walking/doing low impact.
Thanks! Smile

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 06/10/2013 04:50

Hi zing bless you for asking
Back much better - had several physio sessions and planning to try shred 1 with light 3-5lb weights tomorrow to see how we roll.

Or maybe yoga meltdown - need to go super slow and low but can't hack not exercising!

MsFiremanSam · 06/10/2013 07:16

Is Yoga Meltdown any good? That's the only one I haven't got.

ZingWantsCake · 06/10/2013 07:20

MrsFireman

and you can go swimming as well - who knows how you can fit it in, but I think it's the nicest excersice!

do you have any post natal excersice class near you?
they are designed for gentle strengthening of the body and tend to include pelvic floor excersice too.

The fitness instructor friendvi mentioned earlier on this thread does exactly that, you can take baby with you. she also does buggy-cise classes.
if you want pm me whereabout you live - I can give you her contact details. in fact if you are not near she might be able to recommend something anyway.

trucks I admire your determination! I hope you are not in pain and can sleep well at nights.
I hope you heal quickly! Thanks
