Supposed to be working but could not resist challenge of new thread title!

OP posts:
LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 31/12/2011 11:43

oops - meant Thanks

ibbydibby · 31/12/2011 11:54

June wow well done, that is amazing. You must feel so chuffed.

Littlechief 6 very hilly miles sounds good! Sadly lacking in hills around here.

I should also be on a tidy up mission today....hoping to get round to this later in the week when DCs back at school.

Ange glad that he is doing ok and lovely to think that he is pacing you.

Hope everyone's parkruns went well today. I did 24.25, not a PB for me, but faster than my last 2 parkruns. Was looking at my parkrun stats and discovered that my best time in 2010 was 26.07, compared with PB in 2011 of 23.59, ie an improvement of just over 2 minutes. Not sure how much more (less!) I can hope for but will keep trying...AS I said yesterday I don't really like the distance as you are having to push yourself right from the start (am more of a plodder) but it is nice thing to do on a Saturday morning, and good that DCs can do it as well, DH also does it sometimes (though was on my own today).

OP posts:
rhetorician · 31/12/2011 12:01

ibby an improvement of 2 minutes on a 5k is pretty amazing!

sfxmum · 31/12/2011 12:09

hello

well done one parkruns hope all went well

june hard to imagine where those extra 8stone were Shock well done

I am waiting for dh to come back from his rowing do I can go out, it will likely be raining then Hmm

let me wish you all a very happy New Year and lots of injury free, goal achieving running

GeekLove · 31/12/2011 12:10

Hello fOlks
Have just re-started running after having a baby by incorporating it into dc pick-up time. Have been running about 3x a week about 2km ish each time.
Thing is I have been ill with a throat infection and have only just weaned off the pain killers.
How long should I give it before I restart ?

ibbydibby · 31/12/2011 12:13

Thanks Rhet! That was 5 runs in 2010, and 28 in 2011. I think this is why I enjoy the parkrun so much - not so much the running but the weekly results, so that you can see how you are doing compared with others in the same agegroup. DH says I have analysis paralysis...or summat.

OP posts:
RunningAllDay · 31/12/2011 12:51

Wow June that is incredible. Well done, and I hope you manage to get back running again soon. I would love to be able to do one chin-up, let alone 8.

And ibby that's also fantatsic. You don't sound very paralysed by your analysing! I was hoping to get a PB on my 10k in a week's time, but have had such a hard time getting out this month that I think I can forget it.

hello geek - i would say go with how you feel - i ran right through my early-Dec bout of illness, but this later one knocked me sideways. You know when you are well enough if you can face, or even look forward to, the drizzle!

Its so incredibley mild here today, I just can't get over it. Girls out scootering waiting for their NYE sleepover!

rhetorician · 31/12/2011 14:04

june that is just amazing. I'd like to do some strength training myself - have an idea of something I might sign up for a bit later in the year, when the nights are lighter.

oops dd2 surfacing...best go

stickyLFDTfingers · 31/12/2011 14:24

june you are a legend and a real inspiration. Amazing stuff.

ibby well done!

geek Hi! And I agree with running, see how you feel. I go by the neck up/down rule (if I only feel grotty above the neck level, it's fine, below, it's not). Also if you have any painkillers in your system still, you of course must be careful not to injure yourself not knowing that something should be hurting. Throat infections can be nasty, so I'd be inclined to keep it short til you know you're over it.

Hope you all have a very happy, healthy and successful 2012! Let there be running, rubbing, support and silliness - and PBs all round Grin

DebiTheScot · 31/12/2011 14:26

Rubbish parkrun today. Didn't feel 100% before I started and struggled all the way round. My friend was stewarding and she txd me after to ask if I was ok as "you didn't look like your usual speedy self". I did it in 28:30, over 2 mins slower than last week. And annoyingly I was 2nd in my age category again. I'm always 2nd. The woman who beat beat got 28:02 so if I'd run my normal speed I'd have beat her.

Going to do it tomorrow too. My mum's also going to do it and ds1 wants to do 1 lap. So I'll run with him in first lap then go a bit faster on the 2nd but it'll prob still be slower than today. Don't care about the time tomorrow though, it'll be good to do it with ds1 and it's a good way to start the year.

I've worked out I've run just under 300 miles this year and cycled about 500. Not as far as some of you but further than the average person!

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 31/12/2011 14:26

Hi all,
Haven't been able to come on here as we are in Devon at the mo with no phone reception and have to fight with relatives of all ages to use the computer.

We are having a murder mystery party tonight (for the 6th year running) ... the idea of a thai takeaway as mentioned by rhet sounds a whole lot more appealing.
Just went for a run here and it is so hilly - managed 4.5 miles but all the food/excess wine isn't really helping
Hope you are all well and have a good New Year.
Any new year's resolutions? Mine is to make it round the Cambridge half in March without walking if poss (and let's face it without dying too!)

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 31/12/2011 14:29

June you just heap that cheese on young lady (as long as it's low fat Wink) 8 stones is a life-chnging amount, and you have every right to be so proud of yourself.

No change in my weight over Christmas, feeling more toned and stronger thanks to shredding but not an ounce lost. I didn't overdo the Christmas stodge at all, so didn't expect to put any on, but still you would have thought with all this bloody exercise ......... do you think it's possible I could be losing some fat though, if I weigh the same but feel more muscly? Confused

Just changed my mind and did a run this morning. 5k @ 10.46 m/m pace. No idea what kind of run you'd call it, but am trying to make my runs progressively faster ie starting slow then increasing the pace rather than just belting it out or plodding along. Haven't done a long run for ages due to lack of time, but since I struggle more with speed I'm hoping this will do for now.

Then came back and did a double shred with DH, levels 1 and 2. He thinks I'm trying to finish him off for the life insurance. Wonder how many calories the shred burns?

running think it's about 12 degrees here - too warm for me.

littlechief I suffer with my right calf on hills, it gets tight then starts pulling.

ibby this is where I really rate parkruns, it's so easy to see your goals. Wish we had one nearer.

Geek I would just start slow, if you feel the need to have abit of a powerwalk first or run/walk the whole thing just do it - listen to your body and slow or stop if you feel bad.

Just saw moshi is on fb at the mo, sounds like she had a good Christmas for those not on fb Smile.

Wheelybug · 31/12/2011 14:34

Wow well done June and ibby on your 2011 achievements. You should be v. Proud of yourselves !

I was feeling chuffed the other day thinking
This time last year I was running 6-7 miles as my long run and now I've done 12. Then I realised people go from nothing to running a marathon in 16 weeks and realised I hadn't really achieved much Grin . Ah well, I'm happy with myself and 'on goal' .

Welcome geek ! I agree just t o wait until
You feel up to it.

Right I bring you news of bargains. I just received my first runners world and withit is the sweatshop sale thing and mist notably -

brooks adrenaline gts - £45 from 28 dec to 8th jan

garmin FR110 £74.99 from 9th jan to 15th

And Sis gels 62p 23 - 29 jan and I keep
Meaning to say these are the ones me and
Ibby one and I tried one yesterday during
My run and they are much more palatable than the lucozade ones. More watery and you don't need to wash them down.

Obviously lots of other stuff, worth a look but those things stood out.

Sore knee after yesterday. RW informs me it is my hips which need strengthening and in fact, my hip was a bit sore when I was running so it does follow. I must do the exercises they recommend.

happy new year everyone. I just remembered I'd said I was going to stop drinking in January.... Maybe I'll start on 3rd after the bank hol.... Or 5th when dd1 goes back to school .....

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 31/12/2011 14:35

cherry are you with rellies in Devon? The boys are desperate to go back to the farm we stayed at a couple of years ago near Honiton, such a beautiful place and run by a lovely couple who were utterly charming when DH crashed their tractor and have no doubt dined out on that story for the last two years. But yes, hills aplenty.

sticky no more poo explosions I'm hoping?

debi put your crap parkrun in the 2011 bin and start afresh with a new one for 2012.

Off to join boys for a bit of shit telly, then out for a walk and some last minute provisions before the shops shut for gasp a whole day!

I have just entered the Edinburgh half again for next year, thought I'd get in and make sure of a place given all the New Year's resolutions that people will be making over the next few days. I'm now getting serious about knocking that 1 minute and 9 seconds off this year's time, although I did 10 miles this morning and am sore now!

June - some times cheesy is good! Xmas Smile

Hope you are all well and happy hogmanay to everyone.

fannybanjo · 31/12/2011 16:59

Any new years resolutions anyone?

Mine...

Stop fucking tidying all the time (I've spent last day of 2011 re-organising study)

Stop being a bossy twat.

Get a 1.45 HM PB
Get a 3.45 Marathon PB

That's all folks!

rhetorician · 31/12/2011 18:40

new year's resolutions

run 3000k in 2012
get sub 1 hour for 10k
do a 2 hour half
do a 4.30 marathon (maybe)

tidy up more (tip o'the nib to fanny)
eat less crap
get more writing done
take better care of DP

sfxmum · 31/12/2011 18:47

Ok since goals Smile although I would like to do a half by the end of the year Shock counting on you to spur me on. Also trying to get dh to register with Parkrun

Rhet "run 3000k in 2012" ...I've worked out that is on average 35 miles a week! (Have I worked that out right?). That's quite an undertaking (says me who struggles to get into the mid 20's a week!)

N4NNY · 31/12/2011 20:27

Added the 2 runs I've entered so far in 2012. I did parkrun today in Andover near my parents house not quite a PW but not far off it was very muddy so hard going and to be honest I just couldn't be arsed to try any harder :)

orangeLFDThead · 31/12/2011 20:39

Hi back from db, not had chance to catch up so hope everyone ok. Db is doing well but whole trip was very stressful. Db even told me one point he is annoyed at me for still speaking to our parents and thinks I should cut them off like him and dsis Shock and you can't really say to someone that ill that they are bang out of order. Anyway ds1 alot better but ds2 was throwing up all last night so poor dh had to deal with that alone. Then we heard my aunty has been taken into hospital she collasped they don't know whats up yet. So we managed to get a visit to her on way back from db as she is about half way between us.
Tried to do a run yesterday but it set off my asthma again, think I might be better in the gym at the mo as think cold air makes it worst. I was hoping to do a 5 mile race next weekend but it not looking likely Sad.
I'm so glad to be back home, just relaxing now really missed my three men [soppy I know]

peachLFDTsmuggler · 31/12/2011 21:22

orange, sorry you have got even more on your plate. Hope your aunt is ok. Glad you saw DB but sorry about the issue with your parents. You are right, it is not on for him to ask that. You must be so pleased to be home Smile

June, your post was very moving, as is your story. You must be so proud of yourself. Your fb pics were amazing, well done!

New years resolutions will only be running based as don't really do them otherwise

  1. do a 10k race (sub 60 mins)
  2. do a half (sub 2.15)
  3. lose babyweight through running
  4. be awesome at running. Yayyyy, LFDT!!!

Happy New Year rubbers! You have all been stars this last year and, gee shucks, I love you all!!!!

Mwah!

rhetorician · 31/12/2011 21:28

be awesome at running - that's a good goal, I'm nicking that one!

ibbydibby · 31/12/2011 21:47

orange glad you managed to visit DB but sorry about the additional stresses. Really not fair of him to expect that. Hope DS2 is ok.

Resolutions:

  1. worry less
  2. keep house tidier (need Fanny's help I think)
  3. increase my training as I have the FLM to panic about look forward to..
  4. Spend less time on PC googling crap things

Happy New Year, all!
