Supposed to be working but could not resist challenge of new thread title!

OP posts:
ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 30/12/2011 20:21

wheely that's a great time. Wish I was that speedy.

peach ds3 lived in one of those mei tei slings. Though I must admit I hated getting sweaty boobs under him Smile.

sticky yuk to poo explosions. Ds1 was prone to the under the armpit down to the feet specials. Always a joy.

Rhet I have very very low overall cholesterol - good, except that my good cholesterol is als lower than it should be. Get yourself properly tested, and then you know if it's really an issue.

stickyLFDTfingers · 30/12/2011 21:03

Isn't it weird how it's nice to read about other people's runs?

Thanks for the good wishes - DD2 seems entirely fine, so not sure why she was suddenly coated in marmite last night. Just hope there's no repeat performances.

hoping to get down to park run tomorrow, it must be nearly a month since I last went Blush. I noticed with my garminGrin that I was running a lot faster with DB, and that I could keep it up (was feeling it a bit, looked at the watch and it said I was doing 8:40. Thought about asking him to slow down, then thought, sod it, I'll just go faster (especially given he was already running slowly for me, just not slow enough! Blush). I could really do with a faster running mate! Anyhoo, the plan is to sort of pretend he was there, or to latch on to someone who looks a bit faster. Will be great to actually know what pace I'm doing! So long as the poo fairy doesn't visit again Hmm

rhet it's better to know, of course. As you say, how much more can you do - otoh, my Dad had a heart attack while he was on a treadmill being tested to see if he had heart problems. The more you know about what's going on inside you the better.

rhetorician · 30/12/2011 21:07

sticky I think some Garmins will let you have a virtual training partner (like you can do on Concept 2 ergs...) I ran today with mine on time/pace rather than heart rate (I had 35 minutes!) which was good too

we are still in shock that dd2 is a sleeper - DP just trying to wake her up to feed her - after about 3 hours!

fannybanjo · 30/12/2011 21:16

I am pleased to inform you all that I am currently typing this from the comfort on my sofa on my fresh out the box, brand spanking new, 13 inch MacBook Pro! Grin Fan-fucking-tastic. Sold my older iMac to a friend and DH bought me a beautiful but very expensive Lanvin bag for Christmas which was basically waste of money a lovely thought but I lash handbags all over the show and couldn't be trusted not to leave it next to my car in Asda car park so I took it back last night and put money towards new MacBook! My posts are gonna be fucking epics. Hmm

wheely I too am of the school that shorter faster runs get you far more efficient in longer ones. I am doing that at the moment, pushing myself on 5-6 milers and within 2 weeks, I can feel my fitness levels improving massively.

rhet you decided about buggy yet? Like everyone said, don't worry too much about cholesterol, if you are, get it checked more in depth.

shred I laughed out loud at lamppost assassin. Grin You do make me chuckle. Fanny arms was another pearler!

NYE for the fanny fambo is always very sedate. Usually in bed grumbling about fireworks!

rhetorician · 30/12/2011 21:25

fanny I think I am going for the Baby Jogger Summit XC (er, it's a bloody pushchair!) providing it will fit in my boot, even though I think it will primarily be used on foot + buggy board so that I can drop dd1 at nursery and then run with dd2. Great about new Mac - mine is an old macbook (but black, which was a ridiculous poncey self-indulgence) the battery is shite, but otherwise it's doing pretty well

have 'celebrated' my cholesterol news with a glass and a half of red and feel distinctly merry...

hoping to get out for a few kms tomorrow, dd2 permitting

stickyLFDTfingers · 30/12/2011 21:29

Yay for pretty mac fanny! Definitely better to lump your gear round in an old Sainsburys bag and have a lovely pooter to play on instead.

fannybanjo · 30/12/2011 21:38

I'm celebrating my "Merry Macmas" with a Peroni but 'twas short lived. DD2 unsettles and is now downstairs on said MacBook on Cbeebies website making butterflies with Charlie and Lola, oh and DH informed me he wants to use it in bed to watch Retriever Championship DVD. AngryAngryAngry

Sounds like a good plan rhet re buggy/running apparatus. Let's hope DD2 enjoys it too!

Wheelybug · 30/12/2011 21:48

Ooh that Charlie and Lola butterfly thing is great ! Congrats on the new mac ! Lol at retriever championships Grin.

shred I wish I could run as far as you !

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 30/12/2011 21:57

is a MacBook a laptop? Desperately need a new computer. DH has just sent a pint flying over my iPhone and it's a bit sticky. Cheers DH!

fannybanjo · 30/12/2011 22:07

Haha yes shred they are a laptop. Fucking ace laptops I should add. I've had two before but one was given to MIL and other our friend bought off us when we got iMac. We wasted £400 buying a Toshiba one and I refuse to use it. The trackpad went on it within a few months. If you can afford one, go for it. We can claim VAT back so not too bad but they are pricey but worth every penny.

ibbydibby · 30/12/2011 22:12

Fanny can we call you MacFanny now? Sounds like MacBook will be in demand in the Fanny household...

Sticky am also hoping to go to parkrun tomorrow. DH paced me last week - never done this before - and I thought we were really zipping round. Turned out I was a whole minute short of my PB. In my defence, it was a record attendance, of over 300 parkrunners, so hard to move at times. The more I do the parkrun, the more I think I hate the 5k distance. I find it so stressful! However I keep going as I am sure the faster pace helps with longer distances. Somehow. Confused.

Hoping to hit the sales tomorrow....

OP posts:
fannybanjo · 30/12/2011 22:21

ibby MacFanny suits me well - especially since we have 2 iPhones, 2 iPod Touch's, 1 iPad, 1 MacBook and 1 iPod shuffle in the fanny residence. Blush Hmm

5k is a distance I loath ibby as I always attempt to do it as quick as possible and they are hard. My fastest 3 miler in training was 21.30 and I've never come close to it, it was a freak run. I must attempt it again next week though, see if I can get a PB.

rhetorician · 30/12/2011 23:18

fanny our haul is one ipod, one ipod nano, one ipod touch, one i mac and 2 macbooks...Blush

YeahThatsTheBadger · 30/12/2011 23:25

Hope you're all had lovely Christmas' and enjoyed the overindulging.

Glad DD is better sticky. Hope you get out for parkrun tomorrow.

Happy to hear the thread babies are doing so well.

Went to the gym today. First time for over two weeks as I've had a lurgy which has been hangin about but never fully materialised yet. Feels like I have a cold (I'm snoring like I have a cold Blush) but I don't have the symptoms of a cold. Confused Anyway, I think the lack of running for a few weeks, and the fact any running is on the treadmill has resulted in a stupid sore knee. Again. Before I would have taken ibuprofen and used a compression bandage and it would be sorted by the next day, but can't take ibuprofen now. Am hoping that running regularly, taking it steady and swapping a few kms on the bike instead will help. Don't really want to give it up until I feel I should.

fanny Envy about new macbook. Sorry that you've 'lost' it so soon!

We have a wedding to go to tomorrow (!) and so will probably be driving back at midnight. Hope all your plans are a bit more exciting.

DebiTheScot · 30/12/2011 23:26

Blimey rhet and fanny, that's a lot of idevices! We've got an old ipod and an iPhone and that's it.

I'm going to parkrun tomorrow & Sunday. Have eaten too much today and will drink too much tomorrow to get any pbs tho.

ibbydibby · 31/12/2011 07:31

Only an ipod touch in the ibby household - and that belongs to DS1

OP posts:
AngeChica · 31/12/2011 08:42

rhet a blood test will check cholesterol properly for you and put your mind at rest - it will give a breakdown of the different types of lipids in your blood which is the key thing to know. But always remember you have a lifestyle which is much more active than most of the population, which is a massive health benefit. We know lots about cholesterol in this house as my DH has a rare condition called type 3 remnant removal, at one point his Cl level was over 16 Shock. His liver lacks an enzyme to break down fat so it just swills around in his body! It is best controlled by diet - sadly solid fats, cheese and home baking are generally out of the picture. He can indulge once or twice a month though - the dietitian said life would be miserable otherwise!

sticky apparently there is a guy at the Durham parkrun today who will complete a 5 year running streak (been for a run every day for 5 years) - can you imagine!

ibby he's doing remarkably well ta, & managing lots of exercise still. The tables have turned as I used to pace him on my bike when I was a teenager!

Enjoy New Year celebrations whatevery you are doing. My resolution is definitely to cut right down on alcohol as I train for the VLM, as my wine consumption has been quite high over the last week or 2 :) and it's calorie tastic.

rhetorician · 31/12/2011 09:17

angechica thanks for that - I did have it tested a few years back because I had a full health check in 2006 after having a pulmonary embolism and due to family history and it was borderline high then - but i was a lot less fit, still smoked and drank a lot. I'd be sad about the home baking which is something I like doing with dd1.

day very dreary here - hope to get out for 5-6 kms though. Not sure what else to do with the day really.

hope parkruns all go well!

June2009 · 31/12/2011 10:12

Heya! Hope you all had a lovely xmas :D

I've been off running for a little bit because of this spd-like ligament/joints problem I have been having, still doing lots of other types of cardio and weight lifting and not actually missing running as much as I thought I would so so far so good...
That has put a spanner in the works as far as re-running the half marathon (run to the beat in greenwich) goes for next year and beating my pb of 2:07. I still really want a sub 2:00, I'll just have to see how training goes, maybe it's a hormonal thing and will just go away. .

fanny I got an ishuffle for xmas, and a "gymboss", both brilliant for interval training and circuits.

I will be looking into obstacle courses next year as soon as the weather gets better, in the meantime I will be popping in and lurking :D

Happy New Running Year :D

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 31/12/2011 10:49

Morning all!

Just going to shred with DH today. I was mean yesterday and got him to do the SWSP with me. His exact words after 5 minutes: "you are having a fucking laugh." So I think we'd better go back to the shred. Next run is tomorrow.

Staying in tonight, I don't much rate NYE being a miserable cow so we went out last night instead.

fannybanjo · 31/12/2011 11:03

ange glad your dad is doing ok. Heart breaking to see someone you're so close to very ill though.

shred DH couldn't move after one go of level 1 shred! I have to admit, I've only done it once myself but I WILL do it on the days I'm not running when kids back in school, good for strengthening.

Absolutely whacked this morning, came on during the night and feel like I've been hit by a double decker.

Now we have the laptop and iMac gone (although forgot, to add to our collection of Apple widgets, DD1 was given my Uncle's oldish iMac two weeks ago!), I can turn study into playroom. DH out all day shooting (well his dogs are picking up, he doesn't shoot) so I'm deliberating whether I can manage to re-organise the study, paperwork and dismantle desk (and find somewhere for desk to go!) all on my own with 3 delightful daughters to see to....Hmm

Hope park runs went well.

June good to hear from you, was wondering where you'd gone! How's weight training going? What's this "gymboss" you talk of?

June2009 · 31/12/2011 11:25

fanny there are a few gymboss here
They're cheap, it's like a timer but allows you to time, for example, 15s rest and 45sec effort, for as many reps as you need, it'll beep or vibrate to let you know. So for running you could use it for sprints if you wanted to time it instead of measuring the distance iyswim.

Weight training is going very well, in the past couple of months (pretty much since I've not been able to do so much running anymore and been doing more weights instead) I got a pb of squatting 100kg (that's almost twice my bodyweight!!) and managed (also a pb) 3 sets of 8 chin ups last week, really happy with all that progress and actually started looking at powerlifting competitions for next year. If I can't run the half I might as well focus on something else.

I too am on a cleaning/organising mission, dd's toys for a start, what a load of plastic tat everywhere, it's got to go. Also got tons of clothes that are too big for me now and I have no intention of ever going back to that size :D

right, I was wondering whether to post this or not because it is very cheesy but I think I really ought to...

2011 has been a very significant year for me what with the weight loss I'd started in 2010 (lost 8 stones in total!!)
THANKS TO THIS THREAD, and YOU GUYS, I signed up for my first 10k in june, then a few more and even ran a half marathon! All this has really helped me stay focussed on my fitness journey and none of it would have happened if it wasn't for your enthusiasm for running, your great encouragement and invaluable tips for the gruelling training along the way.
I feel fitter and stronger than ever.
So for all these reasons I thank you from the bottom of my heat.
You are special, keep it this way!

and sorry for the cheesiness :D

futurity · 31/12/2011 11:27

That's a lovely message June and not at all cheesy! OMG to the 8 stone loss...incredible!

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 31/12/2011 11:29

Just back from 6 very hilly miles. My calves were really complaining by the time I got to the top but then downhill all the way home with misty views over Dundee and Fife.

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 31/12/2011 11:42

Cross-posted with June - wow, well done. You must feel completely different to how you felt a year ago.

I think you deserve congratulatory Wine and Flowers
