Supposed to be working but could not resist challenge of new thread title!

OP posts:
rhetorician · 29/12/2011 11:25

peach there's a slightly cheaper one than that - the Summit xc, The nipper might be ok as I am definitely not tall. Think I might go for the babyjogger because of the resale. The one you linked is the one Paula uses, apparently

crappy night here overall, still waiting for effing gasman to call, still haven't managed to register A...still have huge pile of marking to do. Hey ho. A sleeping though - yay!

futurity · 29/12/2011 11:31

Just did 6.28 miles in 1 hour 2 with running club. OMG it was hard. Windy and cold ...but then I got too hot and had to strip off layers! Really pleased I finished but I find that pace so punishing.
Mile 1: 9:53
Mile 2: 9:37
Mile 3: 10:06
Mile 4: 9:59
Mile 5: 10:37 (lost will to live!)
Mile 6: 9:50
Mile 7: 9:28

Blimey..I'm quite impressed with that now I have written it down!

futurity · 29/12/2011 12:56

Actually just realised (after recovering in the bath) that at mile 5 I had to stop for about 20 seconds to cross a busy A road so don't feel so bad about that mile time now Smile

Ok, that's me signed up for two 10k races in Jan and May.
Distance is not a problem. Just wish I could speed it up a little. For the Buchlyvie one judging by last year's timings I could be coming in last.
At least it doesn't appear to have a time limit. I think it was the EMF races where if you're slower than 15 min/mile then you get pulled off when your time is up, although I think that probably refers to the marathon and half marathon, and even my speed is better than 15 min/mile.

Definitely need to get out and do some more training as indulgences over Christmas have put 3kg weight back on. sigh.

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 29/12/2011 13:31

Afternoon all, trying to psych myself up for a run later but currently enjoying The Empire Strikes Back - ds1 got the whole series on blu ray and it's strangely compelling sitting here doing nothing.

I would have loved a babyjogger, I looked when I had ds3 but second hand were very few and far between. Probably a very good sign that it would be a decent investment.

fannybanjo · 29/12/2011 13:37

Well done DrNo on your race - I seemed to have missed that post!! Envy at DH's time! I'd love DH to be into rubbing like that, it wouldn't half get me faster.

rhet I'd definitely invest in a baby jogger fit for purpose. You're going to get years out of it then be able to sell it on for good money. It'd give you your sanity back which is priceless.

futurity well done on great run!! Splits are great. Very hard running tempo in this wind, it messed my run up yesterday.

Going swimming alone with all three girlies soon... Hmm

rhetorician · 29/12/2011 14:14

yes, I guess I could get 3 years out of it, couldn't I? just got out for 4 miles in the driving wind and rain - loved it. Of course dd2 woke up about 3 minutes after I left...but I didn't know about that, did I? I'm just so glad to have been out and running that I don't care about weather, times, splits, heart rates or anything else. Sanity...

think I can't get baby jogger til end Jan, and then dd2 will be 2 months so probably big enough to be in it between feeds. Until then I can use the i'candy for a bit of speedy walking which will also do useful aerobic work, plus 3, maybe 4 runs a week. They sell really fast secondhand!

Right, off for the second attempt to register A...

AngeChica · 29/12/2011 15:57

Belated happy Christmas to all. We are home . Had a good few days in Suffolk. Blessed with reasonable weather & i got 3 good runs in - including a massive one for me - 21k with my dad pacing on his bike, which really helped! Unfortunately we had a mini adventure getting caught in the middle of a grouse shoot. The shooters were illegally close to the public bridleway and failed to stop shooting. Dad took lots of pics and will be complaining to the police. Sadly these countryside alliance type people always think they are above the law though. Sorry if anyone likes that sort of thing but I always find it faintly abhorrent. Anyway - It's my wedding anniversary tonight.... laters Wink

peachLFDTsmuggler · 29/12/2011 18:06

Congratulations Ange, do you have anything nice planned?

futurity, a punishing pace, but you did it lady! Well done.

bumply, well done for booking races, I can't wait to get started!

shredme, oh I love those films!

fanny, how was the swimming?

rhet, if I get that buggy will I start doing 5 min miles like Zpaula do you think? Wink. hope youmanaged to get A registered.

squiz, glad the magic shoes working out. I can't work out if I need new ones as hardly ran at all last year. Will see how they feel.

Lovely MIL came in from shops with 2 pairs of trousers for me use for running. Will try them on later but under a sleeping baby at the mo Smile

Wheelybug · 29/12/2011 18:09

Happy anniversary ange

Great run futurity. - in this weather too !

Well done for getting out rhet. Try not to worry about dd2 waking - it sounds like you are being fantastic at home. Unfortunately my niece had a sick bug today so my bro and family didn't come so I couldn't ask about the buggy. Sorry ! I can ask her in a day or two when they've stopped clearing up sick.

The rest of my family came though so more eating... And new running socks and a thin headband plus other non running gifts (I have had 3 costa vouchersGrin)

Gearing up for 12 miles in the morning. Eek ! Will be a distance pb for me and stupidly feeling a bit nervous even though I have been doing 11 comfortably . I am a loon Grin

rhetorician · 29/12/2011 18:19

peach i'd say that you probably can get up to 5 m/m with the groovy buggy -but only if you scoot along on the buggy board I am excited about it now - just need to check it will go in the boot, although I think we will keep our cheapo folding one for trips on ruinair and the bus

futurity great stuff - keep it up. Splits are great - just remember where you were earlier this year and you'll see that you've come on loads

did manage to register her - they needed civil partnership cert (didn't say this on website Hmm) and seemingly now it's possible for the girls to have my surname double-barrelled...Shock but their dad would have to write a letter to say he has no part in their upbringing which isn't technically true - he has no parental responsibility, which is not quite the same thing. And the surname doesn't confer any legal status to my relationship with them, so we decided to do the same as with dd1 - they have first name, second name, my surname and then dps surname as their legal one. This seems only fair given that she did all the pg and labour and bf part - and I don't really care about it that much (as dp pointed out, most women's children do not share their surnames) and our surnames start with same consonant and do not double that well. Sorry for long account, just was a bit taken aback.

haven't had chance to upload today's run - it was horrid out so i never looked at my garmin and couldn't hear it bleep the splits in the gale - I did a decent enough pace - keen not to stay out too long.

rhetorician · 29/12/2011 18:21

no races for me on the list! must rectify!

peachLFDTsmuggler · 29/12/2011 18:28

All sounds like a bit of a pavlova Rhet! Glad it's all sorted.

wheely Grin at your Costa vouchers. Your rellies know you well!

peachLFDTsmuggler · 29/12/2011 18:30

. You'll be more than fine doing 11 miles mrs. Good luck!

rhetorician · 29/12/2011 18:48

am looking forward to getting up towards 11-12 miles again...great work wheely you'll wonder what all the fuss was about when you get home again

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 29/12/2011 18:48

Evening all! Just back from my 6.5 miles in the driving wind and rain, actually managed to get attacked by a lamp post - was head down trying to get to the top of a hill, looking at the ground, and the bugger just leapt out and attacked me. I let out an embarrassing girly shriek and sort of did that doinnnnnngggggggg thing they do on Tom and Jerry when attacked by an inanimate object.

Congratulations ange, not a fan of the whole hunting shooting thing myself, unfortunately I think the participants tend to assume they own the bloody countryside they are supported by everyone that lives in the country.

wheely just get out there and FDT, everyone knows that a 12 mile run is exactly the same as an 11 mile one with a 1 mile cool down, right? Grin.

Rhet the name issue is silly, but your DP is right. Could you subsequently change the girls' names by deed poll if you wanted to, to get round the issue with the letter and their biological father's involvement?

futurity · 29/12/2011 19:17

Ouch Shred....evil lampost...hope you kicked it in frustration!
Am also looking forward to getting up to 11-12 miles again Rhet . I don't know about you but when I haven't done those sort of miles for a while I start to doubt that I could ever do them..like my brain wipes out the memory of being able to achieve it ever again. Saying that I am going to try and be more positive about what I can achieve..sort of a New Years Resolution ...more LFDT and less "no I can't" (whimper).

Wheelybug · 29/12/2011 19:30

Thanks all for the kick up the arse. I'll be fine once I'm out there. I guess it's also the thought of taking a couple of hours out of our very rare family time but needs must n all that ! I'll go earlyish (although need to wait for daylight as most of route will be off road) so expect no one else will even ne dressed when I get back and I shall feel smug Grin.

Yes I need to be more positive I'm 2012 futurity. Was saying to db today that I don't plan to run further than half marathon next year so will hopefully accomplish my distance goal in January. Need to plan some other goals.

Ouch to lamp post shred

rhetorician · 29/12/2011 19:46

shredme yes - we could, I suppose - I know people who've done this (passport control less likely to be sniffy if parent and child share a surname, which is nonsense, of course) - I'm not sure that it really matters that much to me. My relationship to them lies in the day in day out effort, love, discipline, caring, not in a name. (just put dd1 to bed without hugs because she lamped

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 29/12/2011 20:21

I suffer from mileage amnesia too. I am in the 6 miles = long distance frame of mind and panicking mildly about my 10 mile race soon. Total memory block about doing a 1/2 marathon in the summer.

I did a whole hour on the treadmill which luckily coincided with Woman's Hour on radio 4 so I don't really notice the time. Managed to maintain a pace of 12min/miles @ 1% incline without my heart rate going above 147.

I am chuckling at your lamp post attack Shred. I walked backwards into a lamp post when I was on holiday aged 15 - it was mortifying and really sore.

DrNortherner · 29/12/2011 20:37

Hi everyone, I managed 6.5 miles this morning in hail, rain, sleet, wind and sunshine. I even saw a rainbow. Weird weather. Off to a cottage in Yorks Dales tomorrow with friends for NY.

I seem to have lost my speed

It will come back wont it?

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 29/12/2011 20:53

Amen to that .Rhet (the bond part rather than the being lamped). I kept my name after I married (for work reasons) but then changed when we had ds1, just for practical reasons, but I did feel sad to let my name go - it was unusual, and always mispronounced, and I felt quite protective of it.

Speaking of weddings, anyone watching Corrie? Sian and Sophie getting hitched. Well unless they do the usual soap interrupted wedding thing .....

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 29/12/2011 20:55

Oh. They have Sad.

RunningAllDay · 29/12/2011 20:57

Grin at the killer lamppost shredme

hello all! and merry after-xmas! Back from very very snowy slopes where I have spent a week toning my upper body dragging two children on skies uphill. And for apres-ski pleasure I transported three pairs of skis on my shoulders around the resort. Then I ate some cheese to compensate. Unfortunately the skiing/baggage hauling did NOTHING for my fitness as my pathetic 3 mile run (HR hit my measured maximum on first hill and I got a STITCH!!!!) yesterday showed me.

Have been through posts = am as usual Envy at fanny's times and willpower - and DrNo's amazing race. I hope peach and rhet manage to get out a bit - I remember that desperately envious feeling every time I saw someone out running when I was in those early baby days. rhet FWIW I had a Mountain Buggy with fixable front wheel but lived in such a hilly place that I never really got the hang of running with it. and DD2 was such a pest that she was never happy unless strapped to my body which is rubbish for running I would recommend something light!

Go wheely - you could alternatively do a one mile warm-up and trick yourself that way... Have a lovely anniversary Ange - what are you upto? I had my nicest one this year - 30k cycle ride with DH alone. Strange what makes you happy turns you on when you've been married a while! Happy anniversary. Anyone got big plans for NY?
