Supposed to be working but could not resist challenge of new thread title!

OP posts:
fannybanjo · 19/12/2011 19:11

rhet 1 unit a day is feck all! I don't usually drink more than 2 nights a week but when kids are off, I am gagging for s glass of wine. Just sat in kitchen on comfy chair reading Country Living mag with glass of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Cheers! Hang on, you were running at some points at 7.10m/m...??? Shock Grin

Wheelybug · 19/12/2011 19:14

Yes Fanny and the Bacon sarnies to help the hangover.

Dh one of those who can eat and drink whatever and lose weight but he had a test once which showed the way he burned fat meant this happened (i think his body burns fat straightaway rather than later or something .. )

Wheelybug · 19/12/2011 19:16

Yes rhet, I have crept up to a glass every night with dinner rather than just weekends that I think is better.

fannybanjo · 19/12/2011 19:23

Haha wheely I had a bacon butty this morning!!

Wheelybug · 19/12/2011 19:33

Ah well I suspect the 2000 calories you burnt yesterday sorted that one out !

fannybanjo · 19/12/2011 19:38

Oh I easily consumed those calories in popcorn alone Wheely!!

cestlavie · 19/12/2011 19:55

Hi DrNo, how're you doing? Will happily provide a male perspective as not sure am in much of a position to provide a runner's perspective at the moment! How's stuff with you?

Thanks orange and peaches - good to see you guys too - how's the little on peaches... so far behind so probably old news but did you get a sleeper?!

Sounds about right fanny, shit that gets in the way of fun stuff. New year resolution to stop obsessing about getting house stuff done and do more fun stuff like running... Sounds like you're getting a Moshi like turn of pace yourself...!

Ta for restaurant tips monkey... checked out Lussmans and look good so might go for that. Will keep an eye open for your car, though will probably down in Harpenden main street at those times usually. Will flail wave if I see you (how does the Stevie Smith poem go? Not waving but flailing?!)

Probably done already but what's everyone asking for Christmas running wise? Me, I'm asking for some K Swiss shoes in the hope they have magical speed powers (the people look dead fast in the ads).

Wheelybug · 19/12/2011 20:17

In all the talk of calories and wine I forgot to say hello to cest - nice to see you back !

Think I've just asked for bits and pieces running/sport wise - a couple of tri books, a thin headband for the gym, runners world sub, running socks, and I think MIL is getting me sweatty betty vouchers.

Dh has apparently bought me a mystery present......not sure whether to get excited or worried....

monkeyLFDTwench · 19/12/2011 20:26

Do you know, I really thought that giving up alcohol completely (about a month before Chester) would make a huge difference to my weight - I was doing 40+ miles a week, too. But - even with keeping up the boozeban after Chester, I lost Not. A. Pound. That said, I feel much better for it and it definitely helped my tummy issues.

I hardly drink now at all. I think dropping mileage has meant I've had to really watch what I eat, just to maintain my weight.

It's frustrating, as after ds1 and ds2 I didn't have to try at all. Now it's a constant effort. I'm very heavy and muscly, not flabby though. And I think shredding has been great for core and upper body strength.

monkeyLFDTwench · 19/12/2011 20:30

wheely mystery present in our house from DH is always either (1) slutty undies or (2) something DH wanted. Actually (1) is kind of a variant of (2) in a way. Sigh.

I've asked for a new sports bra (good luck finding that sexy, DH), and various assorted running bits and bobs. Looks from DH's amazon emails like I'm also getting more Jillian DVDs. Maybe you could try and hide the emails, DH?!

DrNortherner · 19/12/2011 20:39

Oooh a mystery present wheely I am intrigued......diamonds? A watch? A toaster?! Grin You MUST let us know.

cest all is good with me thanks. Just same as you really, life interferes with Mnetting and running! I signed up for a 10k on 27th Dec, looking forward to blowing off some cobwebs over the Yorkshire Dales in amongst the festive madness.

You are all rotten taking the piss out of my fetching pink attire. Rotten I tell ya. It could be worse, I could be wearing these socks scroll down

Anyway, drill sesh tonight cancelled do I did 4.5 miles instead and boy could I tell I gave blood yesterday. It was like running through treacle. Could barely muster 9 mm's. Felt very sluggish.

Re weight, I have always been slim, so I think I need to woof a few more calories after a long run. I am 35 now so looking too scrawny is not good Grin Those nature valley oat bars are good aren't they? I do eat chocolate too, but on the whole eat healthily. Also I barely drink alcohol, nothing against it just never had a taste for it. Never drink it at home, so only on the odd night out. Think as you say this makes a big difference to your calorie intake.

Wheelybug · 19/12/2011 20:40

Hmmm... I did say I wanted new underwear but was thinking somewhere in between sports bra and slutty . Actually last year's big surprise was a kindle which was great..... Although I'd asked for a bike.... My mum had even bought me a bell (i know I've told that one before but it makes me laugh).

Do you think you are skimmed monkey - if you are muscley then if your muscle is toning then it'd be weighing heavier than fat. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it

Wheelybug · 19/12/2011 20:43

Sorry that should say do you think you are slimmer monkey ?

Am putting washing away so on my phone procrastinating.

Wheelybug · 19/12/2011 20:46

Could be a watch..... I had a good one for my 30th, 6.5 years ago and the clip is broken so I can't wear it but would be happy with it mended.... Don't think diamonds but a gal can never have too many. better not be a toaster.

rhetorician · 19/12/2011 21:01

Dr No wow, those socks! I think it's safe to say that those will not be on my list...although running socks are. DP wouldn't have a clue what to buy, so I'll probably buy myself a couple of treats - quite fancy one of these and perhaps some of these

peachLFDTsmuggler · 19/12/2011 21:12

Errr a pair of those pink socks that DrNo just posted. To go with your bunches wheely!!!

Wheelybug · 19/12/2011 21:17

Oi. I've had my haircut now and have my stylish aldi headband. No more bunches for me (since I saw my pics)

AlmaWalkingInAWinterWonderland · 19/12/2011 21:28

I've been finding it really hard losing weight, even with going from no exercise to lots of exercise. I have loads more muscle, much fitter and my body shape is changing but not losing any weight. I'm pretty big (don't really drink at all) which was part of the motivation. I have just stopped BFing my 20m old though, literally this week, so I'm wondering if that might make a difference. My appetite is changing lots as well, I find I just don't fancy rubbish as much anymore and can't eat very much in one sitting.

Is pink gear not good? I have black/turquoise and purple, although not sure what lurks in my Christmas presents. DH is getting me various running accessories but not sure what!

monkeyLFDTwench · 19/12/2011 21:30

Better not show DH those socks, he'd lurrrrve them ....

I've lost a little off my waist and tummy feels firmer from Shredding, but I think the main benefit is feeling stronger rather than looks.

My issue with alcohol is that I just can't hold my drink, a sniff of the cork and I'm away. I had way too much when we went to see Kasabian last week and actually suffered a few days for it.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 19/12/2011 21:31

Hee hee.

cest, little K is great ta. 1 month old today which I can't believe! She is sleeper. Hurrah! Only sleeps at night when in our bed and on day in sling/pram/on shoulder, but a sleeper nonetheless! Compared to DD1, she is a breeze! Going for pre-Xmas weigh in tomrrow. Her, not me, I don't think I can bear to weigh myself!

rhet, glad DD2 all ok at docs.

Am only getting RunnersWorld subscription for Xmas but going to buy myself trousers, a warm top, and maybe a hat in the new year.

DrNortherner · 19/12/2011 21:33

I like these, a slogan for each if us

alma pink is fine. Nothing wrong with it at all. You wear your pink stuff and be proud. I do Grin

rhet I have that beanie and glove set, the beanie is great, not as warm as a woollie one mind, but that is a good thing as they can often make you too hot.

I need some warmer gloves actually if anyone can reccomend? I find my usual ones not quite enough on early, chilly runs, also have some sealskin gloves but they are better for BMF sessions, bit too chunky for just a run.

DrNortherner · 19/12/2011 21:36

Yes, shred has done wonders for my midrift (midriff?).....am contemplating crop tops and a pierced belly button Wink

I have just slathered my armpits in Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream as they are red raw. Started using Mitchum 48 hour deodorant after a recommendation from a friend and it has bloomin singed my pits. In agony I am. Hope the 8 hour cream will help, can not bring myself to shave them or put anything scented on them might end up ponging of BO at the office tomorrow....

rhetorician · 19/12/2011 21:39

yes, those are nice Dr No...and we could have a bit of devilment with the slogans Grin. See model has scrawny chicken neck though. She needs some cake

monkeyLFDTwench · 19/12/2011 21:50

Ouch that sounds bad, I normally opt for Sudocrem.

Lots of pink here, as sole laydee in the house I feel the need to assert my femim feminim femininim girly side.

DrNortherner · 19/12/2011 21:54

I have pink tops, a pink running jacket, pink socks and my ASICS have a bit of pink on. My brooks however have lilac on them. I do draw the line though at wearing all my pink stuff at once.
