Runners United - Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

MoshiMoshi · 29/11/2011 09:04

All ye fine runners who wish to get together to discuss running-related topics, or otherwise, come and join us here. We are a friendly and incredibly supportive group of runners, varying in ability, but all bonded together by a common theme of loving running, committed to squeezing it into our busy lives and wanting to improve our own PBs. So whether you are a full-time mum, part-time working mum, full-time working mum, working from home mum, mum who is studying, or even a dad Grin, add your race to the list so you can be sure of some moral support and advice along the way. And if you aren't racing, don't worry as you can enjoy the race reports and race vicariously.

peach my condolences for your news.

Am doing darlington hm on march 12 if anyone isn't on a mob and can add me... cross country hm, apparently and hilly, so might not be the one to deliver my sub 2hr, which would give me an excuse to do Sydney in May! Though dh is in favour of my doing hunter valley winery hm instead....

ibbydibby · 01/12/2011 12:59

So sorry about your Dad's wife, Peach - how devastating.

Any news chez Rhet?

Garmin is not my friend at the moment - ordered from Amazon on 16th Sep, arrived soon after. Went blank on yesterday, phoned Garmin UK, and I have to send it back and they will replace. Good news that they will do this, but annoying. Googled this before phoning, and it seems to be a common thing with Garmins though usually rectified by pressing random combinations of buttons (didn't work for me though)

Trying to summon up energy to pack it up to return, but thik weekend HM exertions have finally caught up with me as have straming cold, and wading my way speedily through box of tissues. Also need to finish off a job application which needs to be in by tomorrow. Luckily can email it.

Go, trainer Fanny!!

(Am a bit confused by dates - Sonic is yours on a Monday?)

Wheelybug · 01/12/2011 13:12

futurity dh has the Nathan triangle I think. I was planning To use it too but find it too big and bulky. I am wondering if one that has 2 smaller bottles on it would be better . I am a midget though.

Body balance here this morning followed by 5 miles on the treadmill doing intervals. Still can't decide if I have shin ishoos but hoping that I'd know for sure if I did !

peach how you doing today, if not too stupid a question.

Hatwoman · 01/12/2011 13:49

hi there. I've been rubbish this week. after my 12 miler on sunday I didn;t get out for 3 days. and even this morning I just did a quick 30 minutes. means I need to do loads fri, sat, sun to keep on schedule.

all you lawyery lot. would you mind if I pm'd you about training contracts? I've got one application I want to send off in the next couple of weeks and would really appreciate some advice

sfxmum · 01/12/2011 14:07

hello hope everyone is well

no running today, just gym hi-lo & boxercise, hopefully out thee tomorrow

will this be a snowless Christmas? seem to recall freezing weather this time last year

on the subject of children, was talking to a lady at the gym who had her 11month old with her, 11 months to the day, hit me that she spent new year's eve in labour!

sfxmum · 01/12/2011 14:08

about bottle holders, how easy is it to grab them on the go? is it a learnt skill?

Wheelybug · 01/12/2011 14:35

Yes sfx. It snowed in London 1 year and a day ago. I remember it well..... We were in the middle of an extension and had no
Wall on the back of our house! Chilly!

Oh and it reminds me, if I remember rightly, for those who have been around as long (or longer) than I have on this thread, I think It's the anniversary of Mr Twink's passing in the next couple of days. twink on the off chance you're still around, will be thinking of you, Mr Twink and Mini Twink (who probably isn't so mini). You still remain an inspiration to me, if not us all.

moshi - you lost your Dad around the same too I think (after Christmas?). Hope you find a little time to reflect at such a busy time for you.

sfxmum · 01/12/2011 14:40

indeed Wheely for twink Thanks

bonkersLFDT20 · 01/12/2011 14:43

Marks place in anticipation of actually having some time to catch up this evening. Nevermind the running though, any baby news from rhet?

fannybanjo · 01/12/2011 15:23

futurity not sure which one Moshi recommended but remember it had four water bottles. Sure she'll be on soon though to assist!

ibby I had to do a hard restart on my lady night. I assume you did this on yours? It was pressing the top left and bottom right buttons together at same time. Bloody nuisance though. They'll sort it and have it back within a week though.

I have spent the past hour with DDs sorting out Sylvanian families.... It's nightmare stuff. Loads tiny bits missing and it's pissing me off. Going to order bits from eBay as I won't sleep. Grin. I cull toys in December and organise them all - anything will bits missing like jigsaws etc get binned. So anal aren't I?

fannybanjo · 01/12/2011 15:24

Who's twink?- rings a bell, maybe from lurking.

fannybanjo · 01/12/2011 15:24

Hahaha lady night!!! last night! Jesus my typos just keep on giving don't they. Hmm

rhetorician · 01/12/2011 15:33

no baby, nor any sign of one :(

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 01/12/2011 15:41

Hi hat yes do fire away with training contract qus albeit it's a while since I filled out any applications

Fanny my friend walked across the USA before the last us election collecting messages for the new president. Taken this long to arrange the meet with the top man to pass over the messages. Talking of which, must go and check fb for any updates ...

Wheelybug · 01/12/2011 15:44

fanny - twink was on this thread when I first joined. Her DH was diagnosed with cancer and sadly died 2 years ago. He was very into running and sport and challenged Twink to do the half Ironman after his death. she was very motivated and extremely dignified. I had only just got back into running after dd2 and slogging it out on the treadmill trying to run 5k I should to think of them and everything they were
going through and it kept me at it !

monkeyLFDTwench · 01/12/2011 15:49

Afternoon all! peach how you doing? How's your dad?

I have a Nathan waist belt, I use it for my phone, tissues and money (don't like my armband for the phone).

Just waiting for boys to finish after helping out at Tudor Day. Great fun. Would it be really mean to tell you that the boy who calls ds gay was sick on the floor during their Tudor banquet?!

peachLFDTsmuggler · 01/12/2011 15:59

Oh now that's karma [monkey]!

Am ok thanks. Haven't spoken to dad today yet, my sisters are over there so will speak to them later to see if he can handle a phonecall. Haven't told DD yet, not sure how to. She wasn't particularly close to her but still...not sure how she'll react. Watching her and DP decorate the tree. Making me feel a bit weepy actually.

Would love to know how twink is. Hope she and mini twink are happy, thriving, and out doing amazing things! I have no doubt that they are.

MrsWednesday · 01/12/2011 16:34

Much love to you and your Dad Peach, and the rest of your family too.

Wheeley, thanks for the reminder about Twink's DH, I didn't realise the date was so imminent. The whole family were so fabulously inspirational and strong and I hope they are doing ok.

I know it's been a while (a thread!) since Sunday but the race reports were brilliant, loved Jezebelle's one in particular, gave me goose-bumps. Some fabulous times too.

I keep checking in on my phone to see if there is any baby news from Rhet - mine is not a fancy iPhone though and keeps crashing so I struggle to post.

Moshi, hope you are managing ok on your own, if anyone can juggle everything, you can but we are here for a sounding board if you get fed up of being the strong one Smile

Only 5.25 miles run this week, on the way home from work on Tuesday. Have attempted Level 2 of Shred a couple of times too, it was brutal...

Can't remember who is having hip problems - I am finding all the squats on the Shred DVD are helping my right hip feel stronger (I had damaged my right quad muscle so it makes sense I suppose).

Good luck to your DH on the job front sfxmum

For those who wear Brooks, I have two questions - are the Adrenaline ones the top of the range ones? And any ideas as to where I can buy them cheap online? I bought some Vapor ones but they are not great unfortunately.

stickyLFDTfingers · 01/12/2011 16:41

hi everyone. Only managed a shred today, but should be out tomorrow...

hat if I can be of any help, do pm me.

DD2's nativity today - they're so cute, those little people! So pleased there's no snow, it was a bit devastating to the nativity plays last year.

sfxmum · 01/12/2011 16:52

mrsW I wear Adrenaline, they are support shoes, I love them best for me, ordered a new pair last week for £71 plus a code for 15% discount
dh wears Trance whihc seems to work for him

thank re jobs I shall be registering for temp work as well

ThatVikRinA22 · 01/12/2011 17:16

thank you for the well dones - and wheelybug - that is so strange you said Ange - that was my sisters name who i lost in a car accident in 2004! i wonder if she was sending vibes through you! she must approve of my running! Smile

hi to everyone - i can hardly walk today....im going to go out on Saturday and do about 4.5 miles - i think i overdid it a little last night. i will try to build back up to another 6 miler a little more steadily - might be ready again by next weds when back to club.

to sfxmum! we can gee each other along! good luck to your DH too,

love to Peach...xmas is such a hard time to lose someone, i know its hard at any time, but xmas seems to bring it all home somehow.

good luck with that baby Rhet - by the time i get back you may be a mummy again!

just a quick question - i know ive been told this before but im going to actually do it this time - which is the best app to download for the iphone to map your speed/distance? a lovely lady at running club has offered me her armband because i cant afford a Garmin....advice would be welcome if anyone knows, thanks!

Wheelybug · 01/12/2011 17:22

I wear adrenaline mrsw - I recently bought a pair on amazon for £65 ish. I am a very bog standard size. If you're small or
Large I think mandm direct do v good deals.

Sorry vicar if my typo upset you unintentionally . How sad for you. I'm sure she is cheering you on!

ThatVikRinA22 · 01/12/2011 17:41

wheelybug - it didnt upset me in the least - in fact it brought a smile to my face! she would think i was mad but would be very proud of me! she used to be a very keen cyclist and cycled around europe. i like to think of her -i just found it funny that you called me by her name....very woo! Grin

monkeyLFDTwench · 01/12/2011 18:10

MrsW I love my Adrenalines - they have a lot more room around the toes than other makes. I like the GTS 8s, which I get from MandM Direct - bargain price of £17.99 at the moment. The snag is that you need to be a fairly small or fairly large size - up to a 3, or more than an 8 usually.
