Runners United - Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

MoshiMoshi · 29/11/2011 09:04

All ye fine runners who wish to get together to discuss running-related topics, or otherwise, come and join us here. We are a friendly and incredibly supportive group of runners, varying in ability, but all bonded together by a common theme of loving running, committed to squeezing it into our busy lives and wanting to improve our own PBs. So whether you are a full-time mum, part-time working mum, full-time working mum, working from home mum, mum who is studying, or even a dad Grin, add your race to the list so you can be sure of some moral support and advice along the way. And if you aren't racing, don't worry as you can enjoy the race reports and race vicariously.

ibby I skimmed read your post about returning your garmin and thought you said you had to email it to them!

monkey haha about the horrid boy. Karma. Last week when I was on field duty this very small year 8 boy was chasing after the nastiest boy in year 10 because he'd stolen their football. I thought he was being a bit of a fool but then slipped and took out the yr 10 boy who went flying. It was the funniest thing I've ever seen. His mates laughed sooooo much.

orangeLFDThead · 01/12/2011 20:10

Thankyou all for support last night, af arrived today so feeling a bit more emotionally stable Smile.
Hope you feel better soon ibby
Not mean at all monkey Grin.
Hope you coping ok Moshi.
Ds2 teacher told him to go and wash his shoes today as they had mud on. So surprise surprise he washed them under the tap. So he has gone around all day with sopping shoes and socks in this weather.
My knee feels ok now but a bit worried it my play up on race day. Is it worth doing some knee strenghing exercises and if so what?

rhetorician · 01/12/2011 20:24

we have decided that the baby isn't going to show up until at least Monday, so don't get excited! DP having a sweep tomorrow, but she thinks the baby has bobbed back up out of her pelvis.

On the upside, I had my hair cut, got in supplies, and also did a tempo run - as defined by my smart coach 10k plan - interestingly, my heart rate was very consistent, I didn't feel like I was working particularly hard, and I didn't get near threshold pace, even though I actually upped the recommended pace a bit. Unfortunately, Garmin Connect seems to have wiped all my heart rate data, at least on the summary page - it's there for individual runs. Maps are gone too. Anyone had this - using Forerunner 110 with Firefox on Mac...very irritating Angry

monkey loved the puking boy...serves him right, little bollix

also, I have a weird bruise on my right foot - it's on the big toe joint, it's about the size of a pound coin and doesn't hurt, although I can feel a small lump on that metatarsal. It's not bothering me, but it looks a bit odd when I catch sight of it in the shower.

monkeyLFDTwench · 01/12/2011 20:35

orange glad you're feeling a little better. Not sure there is anything you can do for strength at this stage, but in future maybe work on some lunges/knee circles?

debi nice one, did you manage to prevent yourself joining in with the sniggering?

peach not much I can say - your poor poor dad.

Rhet I predict that dd2 is going to be a little drama queen! Not even born yet and she's got us all in suspense! Having said that the sweep worked wonders for ms with ds3 (in fact I could've done with it being a little slower, but in fairness I'd been dilating away for a bit anyway).

rhetorician · 01/12/2011 20:42

monkey I bloody hope not - we already have one of those (even midwife called her that when she cried non-stop for the whole night the day she was born). I was hoping for a laid-back kind of chiquita...

fannybanjo · 01/12/2011 20:49

rhet I noticed Garmin had huge problems with their websites last night.

monkey haha GET. IN. Serves the little shit tinker right. What goes around comes around. Hope your DS ok.

peach hope things bearable today especially for your Dad.

rhetorician · 01/12/2011 21:19

ah, that might be it then; I didn't upload my runs yesterday

fannybanjo · 01/12/2011 21:28

Just mapped my route for 17 miler for tomorrow morning. Climb of 1000ft. Blush gonna be a hard one. Aim to get to
22 miles before my friend leaves for Oz then may look into a spring marathon if I find the distance ok.

fannybanjo · 01/12/2011 21:33

Ah fuck it, I'm gonna enter Great Manchester marathon. I'm going for it. Then I have to train.

rhetorician · 01/12/2011 21:35

when's it on, fanny? (DD's dad lives in Manchester, so we could maybe time a visit to coincide with the marathon)

monkeyLFDTwench · 01/12/2011 21:39

Nice one fanny, when is it? What's it like?

rhetorician · 01/12/2011 21:42

flat, I should imagine

fannybanjo · 01/12/2011 21:48

rhet that would be brilliant. It's 29 April. Not sure when Easter is next year. Ahhhh just entered!! What. The. Fuck. Have. I. Done.

fannybanjo · 01/12/2011 21:49

Rhet I ain't even researched it. In true Fanny Gung Ho stylie, I've just gone for it. Grin

squix · 01/12/2011 21:50

peach - hope you are all doing OK

rhet hope things happen soon

moshi - hope things are going well in your countdown to San Fran and things aren?t too hard without DH around. Thanks for the new thread - though it's mot really that new now.

monkey - happy belated anniversary

jezabelle - lovely race report

sfx - another vote for afternoon tea, I got taken for tea as well for my birthday runners - it was lovely. Wheely - DD loves afternoon tea too ? well mainly the cake. In Harvey Nic?s in Edinburgh there is a ?cake conveyor? ? like the sushi bars where you pick your sushi off the conveyor belt, only with cake. She thinks it?s the best thing!

fanny - yeay ? go for Manchester

smile welcome, cross country ? of course it counts. I had a wee taste of it at the weekend and really enjoyed it.

Hand weights not arrived yet ? Jillian is still in a draw but clamouring to get out.

Just been to a very cold fartlek session at running club. I?d not run since the weekend ? a mixture of weather avoidance (sleetey rain and wind) and trying to shake off a really chesty cough. One of my colleugues is just getting over pneumonia so I don?t want to take any chances. Think it?s gone now.

I think someone asked what I was planning on wearing for my rowing practice. On DH?s cousin?s advice it will pretty much by my normal cold weather running kit ? my thicker running tights, socks, technical long sleeve T, fleece lined outerlayer, neck warmer thing, hat, gloves ? waterproof over trousers, waterproof jacket, wellies and fleece wellie liners and a life jacket. I am expecting it to be cold and choppy!

Oh and santa is buying me some trail shoes for Christmas Grin

June2009 · 01/12/2011 22:04

HA! managed to catch up with the new thread :D

Peach and Orange, so sorry to hear your news xx

rhet very disappointed that there is no baby yet, I have read the entire thread with abated breath :D Good luck!
fanny great job on hill training. I have been out running with my bil for a 5k run and we're going to try and make it fairly regular. He was supposed to try and keep up with me but he was fast and actually go back home a second earlier than me. bastard I hate it when that happens, I'm the runner in the family ;) In my defence he is really fit.
anyway the point is that it's challenging for both of us which is good.

vicar well done on your first 10k, everybody remembers their first time ;)
when's your next one :) not doing it under an hour doesn't mean it's bad, as long as you try and do better next time you're all right.

The bodycombat marathon was a lot of fun (small video on my facebook) and they're organising one again in 6 month's time. I wasn't achy or anything like that the next day but I do feel quite tired overall this week. didn't stop me treadmilling this morning and this evening, sprints for me, going up to 20 for a few seconds which is fun.
Also did a killer session with personal trainer, 100 dips, 100 chin ups and 100 clean and press, in 40 minutes, (very proud of that) my hands are blistered!! (makes a change for the feet, right!!!)

Have any of you had spd during their pregnancy? I had it and lately whenever I go for a run (since the half marathon in fact) I feel like spd type pains afterwards (but definitely not pregnant) which is worrying me a little bit. It was crippling and very depressing not knowing if I was going to get back to "normal" after baby was born.

moshi when are you leaving? hope everything is going well, can't imagine how much stuff you must have to organise.

Time to go to bed I think x

fannybanjo · 01/12/2011 22:18

June well done on body combat - again, I'm gutted I'm not on FB. Sad love the sound off 100 chin ups etc, exactly time of training I need to do but I'd have to stop breathing to fit it in (s'pose I could drop ironing.... NAH!!) how is training going, you still big into the conditioning and strength work?

fannybanjo · 01/12/2011 22:21

June it's better being beaten by a grown man than an 11 year old boy.... Blush

monkeyLFDTwench · 01/12/2011 22:31

June yes to SPD - was hideous. I haven't had it post pregnancy at all though.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 02/12/2011 09:26

Brilliant news on the marathon coach fanny! very exciting!

Whatever happened to Pan?

AngeChica · 02/12/2011 09:39

Peach I am sorry to hear about your dad's DW; this will be a very emotional time for you with a newborn too.

No SPD but I get burning hips after long runs and I get a lot of pain around my CS scar... sometimes I suspect something was "botched" during my CS hence no DC2. (probably more likely just my age but I'm in denial :) at being 39 next week) I did go for some tests but decided any invasive investigations and fertility treatment are just not for me.

It's frosty up here today but hope to do my long run this aft instead of weekend as going to turkish baths tomorrow for birthday treat.

monkeyLFDTwench · 02/12/2011 09:53

ange how old is your dc? I think you should get pain around the scar checked - one of my friends had lots of adhesions which had to be dealt with before she could conceive again. My first c's scar was wonderful, very small and neatly stitched - my second was a crash section under GA, and it really shows it was a slash and grab.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 02/12/2011 09:57

Meant to say, sorry orange that af showed up. Good luck with your gp appoinment.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 02/12/2011 10:01

So do we just have rhet racing this weekend, assuming babyrhet decides to snuggle down where she is for the weekend? Are you doing antlers rhet, or the full Santa outfit. I'd love to see pictures of these Xmas races, they sound brill!

Very excited about orange revealing the contents of the infamous Stockport 10 Goody Bag next weekend!!
