All ye fine runners who wish to get together to discuss running-related topics, or otherwise, come and join us here. We are a friendly and incredibly supportive group of runners, varying in ability, but all bonded together by a common theme of loving running, committed to squeezing it into our busy lives and wanting to improve our own PBs. So whether you are a full-time mum, part-time working mum, full-time working mum, working from home mum, mum who is studying, or even a dad Grin, add your race to the list so you can be sure of some moral support and advice along the way. And if you aren't racing, don't worry as you can enjoy the race reports and race vicariously.

Yes - hurricane bawbag was quite an experience. Snow on the ground this morning, dd is convinced it's Christmas today. Right off to ballet and hopefully a 4 mile run for me.

Wheelybug · 10/12/2011 11:26

Frantic busy here but thought I'd pop in and say hello . Off for the weekend to friends so had to get out early this morning if I was going to run. Dd2 up at 5 and then went back to sleep at 6 as did I. Woke at 8 too late to run. But it is cutback week, it will just have been cut back more than it should have been. About to enter some difficult weeks for running but am going to have to fit it in to keep on schedule.

Sorry all me me me but I am reading what you're all up to and will get back on properly next wk.

monkeyLFDTwench · 10/12/2011 12:23

Hi all, beautiful day here. Just did 8 miles 11m/m but struggled. The Period From Hell is draining me!

Just off for a bath but will catch up later.

DebiTheScot · 10/12/2011 13:38

I got the trax, thanks fanny. I couldn't the card but smiled sweetly at the man and told him it was recorded delivery & same name & address as on driving licence. Then when I saw it I laughed as it doesn't say Debi the Scot on my driving licence Grin Did I forget to tell you my real name?

Good parkrun in freezing temps, the noise of all the feet on the crunchy grass was cool. I felt strong even tho I haven't run as much recently and my cold isn't fully gone. I timed it as 26:58 but they said 27:02. Crazy that I was happy with my time and not impressed at all with theirs even tho it was only 4 secs difference!

squix · 10/12/2011 14:34

debi Smile frozen grass is my favourite surface to run on. 3.7 slippy, slushy miles for me this morning.

N4NNY · 10/12/2011 16:35

I went to parkrun today but didn't run it. I got up really not feeling like it but I had my breakfast. My friend text to say she would pick me up in 20 mins I thought mmm she's pushing it a bit but ok we will just get there. She hadn't thought about the fact it was very frosty so car needed defrosting so didn't get to me for almost 30 mins. We were chatting and she went as though we were picking another friend up I was thinking mmmm suldenly friend banged the steering wheel and said why am I going this way lol.

We parked the car at 3 mins to 9 and resigned ourselves to not running cos its a good 5 min walk up hill to the start. As we neared the brow of the hill we could see them still at the start line so we slowed down till they started then cheered them on when they passed us. Very naughty but in my defence I did run 6.4 miles yesterday and I hadn't warmed up properly to run at my best.

monkeyLFDTwench · 10/12/2011 17:01

Hi all!

How you feeling orange?

And how are our beautiful babies?!

Not a great run today, feeling very tired and drained. DH took the boys to footie (except ds3 who went to the panto with my mum) so I had the house to myself when I got back.

I was so pleased though, ds2 won man of the match. He really needed cheering up, as I had him sobbing in the car last night. He didn't get invited to a party (10 out of 12 boys in his class did), which was bad enough. Even worse was the fact that the birthday boy teased him about not being invited yesterday. AND then when I came to pick him up yesterday from school, all the invited boys were having their photos taken outside the stretch limo in the school car park taking them to the party. We had to walk past and his little shoulders were shaking trying not to cry Sad. Nice to see that the popularity contests start at seven.

monkeyLFDTwench · 10/12/2011 17:12

Oops posted too soon.

Anyway, I must confess I was really upset for him. He's a really nice kid, his school report said just this week that hes kind, friendly, and a role model for the other kids. Can't help feeling my boys are just too nice, I'm super sensitive too and I so wish we were all a bit tougher Sad. I dont want to change them, but I would love it if they could shrug stuff off more easily.

Aaaaagh. Must stop moaning. That's another thing on my list - be more positive!!

orangeLFDThead · 10/12/2011 17:23

Thats awful monkey your poor ds. Glad he won man of the match though.
Feeling a bit rough. Was still thinking about doing the race this morning but had to do a 30 secs run from car into doctors as we were running late (dh now has a pot for monday) and that set me off coughing so that made my mind up. So I have rang to pull out Sad, they did have a list of people wanting to do it and they have transfered my place to next year Smile. But think I am run down as also have thrush and think start of cystitis, and wondering if it would really kill the romance if we use a turkey baster as due to ov in a few days but very sore Grin. Oh the joys of being a woman.
Well done everyone getting out in this horrrible cold weather

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 10/12/2011 19:00

Monkey Sad for your ds. Thought it was girls that were bitchy!

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 10/12/2011 19:22

Ps
I'm on fb and am missing out on cute baby photos etc . Can someone send me a friend request somehow via a pm?

rhetorician · 10/12/2011 19:37

cherry there are a few on my profile..

rhetorician · 10/12/2011 19:45

all of you experienced ladies, I am right to be stern with DD1 about yelling and crying at bedtime, aren't i? otherwise I'll end up with an overtired child who cannot respect boundaries - she's just really pushing at it since DD2 arrived. I have to be stern, don't i? even though I feel very mean

no running today - family over, then midwife - doubt I'll get out tomorrow either, but Monday should be possible

fannybanjo · 10/12/2011 20:02

debi I don't think you did give me your surname, it wasn't on the PM with your address on! I remember Moshi sending me a book, it had Helen Fanny on it!!! Grin postman probably thought "ohhhh ee ah, porno for that mad blonde one who lives 'ere" Moshi had posh gold sticker with the family name and address on, I was well impressed. Wink. Yes, I too would hate to have had 4 secs added on, ESPECIALLY when it takes away your sub xx time. I really need to try park run. Glad Trax arrived.

monkey well shame on this child's parents I say. Karma comes back to bite you. Your poor DS. Nothing wrong with being sensitive however I'm married to a very sensitive man and it can be hard work sometimes. Wink. But then I'm the opposite and hard as nails and that's equally as hard to deal with!

orange don't best yourself up about tomorrow, it's s shame but no point doing it unless you can give it 100%. At least there's next year and I'll do it with you!

rhet oh you do have to be strict, we are re bedtime. I think nothing of leaving mine whining if I know it's just tiredness. Don't worry too much but as you are aware DD1 will be unsettled but will soon adjust.

rhetorician · 10/12/2011 20:07

thanks fanny needed that! just feels a bit mean, but it will send the whole household into disarray...

on your HR stuff fanny - if you don't want to run that slowly, don't! what you're doing seems to work pretty well for you - and you are a faster runner than I'll ever be, so go figure! but I enjoy my running more if I am not busting my lungs every time I go out there.

It looks like I'll manage 3 runs a week for the next few weeks, so I was thinking 1 x long (ish), 1 x medium (easy pace) and 1 x intervals or tempo. This should be enough for maintenance, shouldn't it? even though it represents a catastrophic (to me) drop in mileage...

fannybanjo · 10/12/2011 20:30

Thanks rhet I needed that! I spent the whole of my long run yesterday panicking as it was higher than it should be BUT if I want to do a 1.45 HM then I need to be doing LSR between 9 and 10 m/m so I'll keep on doing what I'm doing. Pre Lancaster HM I did 8.5 miles at 8.30m/m and it was HARD whereas this week I did 8.5 miles at 8.17m/m and it was pretty easy. So I don't want to jeopardise that by slowing down just to suit my heart rate although I can imagine if you are starting up it's a great way to train. Hope DD1 gone off ok. How's things been with DD2?

rhetorician · 10/12/2011 20:39

yes, she yelled for about 20 minutes; DD2 is chirping in the pram - DP hoping that she might spend the evening rather than the night cluster feeding...but she is great - more alert now and looking intently at things in the way that babies do. She's only 100g short of her birthweight now, gaining a steady 30g a day.

It's hard to imagine life without her now; and DD1 is doing really well with her - the bedtime palaver is her way of expressing her distress, I guess

rhetorician · 10/12/2011 20:43

ps one last pic on profile of all 4 of us

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 10/12/2011 21:03

Right hopefully managed to add monkey as friend on fb (or some random other punter of same name!). So my initials are J J and my profile pic is me and ds sharing a milkshake so if you spot that, feel free to add me

stickyLFDTfingers · 10/12/2011 21:20

hello! debi that does seem a bit mean - but I think they're both great times and would be very happy to have either of them :)

monkey I don't think your DS is being sensitive, I would be gutted if I/DDs were treated like that. Sounds like a horrible birthday boy altogether. And Shock at stretch limo and photos. Flaunting it much? I remember you saying about the school earlier on re parents. Your DS sounds like such a little star, well done him being man of the match :)

cherry I will go and find you on FB now.

Very Angry as I'm meant to be out drinking cocktails with the girls and I'm here feeling like death warmed up instead. Really busy week next week as well, really can't be doing with feeling ill. Grrrrr. What a marvellous mood I'm in Grin

fannybanjo · 10/12/2011 21:22

Oh yeah monkey only twats get their kids stretch limos Wink. Even I wouldn't stoop to such poncetastic behaviour.

DebiTheScot · 10/12/2011 21:33

N4nny now I understand how you didn't get a pb this morning!

monkey I had a lump in my throat at your story. Poor ds, he must be so chuffed at getting man of the match.

cherry I don't think I'm your friend, I'll have to find you.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 10/12/2011 21:37

Cherry, couldn't see you on Monkeys page but am on phone, will try pooter later and add you!

orange, sorry you had to give up your Stockport 10 place, but glad you can do it next year. Take care of yourself.

monkey, am so shocked at that little boy's behaviour. So glad your wee boy won man of the match, he sounds wonderful, as do all your boys.

Rhet, sounds familiar!!!! DD1 went balistic at bedtime tonight, as I wasn't going to read the last book as usual. She was really angry and crying (and hit DP). It is so difficult cos she used to have all my time and attention, but like you, I thought it better to stay strong. DP put her to bed while I fed K downstairs.

Had a rough night and morning, couldn't get K to sleep at all. We all went into town this afternoon to South Bank Chocolate Festival. It was all a bit stressful as, with all things in London, is just too busy to get near anything and then when we wanted to go get coffee/drink to sit down and feed K, everywhere was too busy to get in. Grrrr. This is what winds me up about London, so much to do, but too painful to actually do any of it!

peachLFDTsmuggler · 10/12/2011 21:40

Well done on parkrun time Debi, they're both excellent!

Sorry you didn't make it today N4NNY

Sticky, how disappointing, hope it doesn't last long.

AlmaWalkingInAWinterWonderland · 11/12/2011 09:37

Hello everyone, can I join? I started running 8 weeks ago using the Zest Running Made Easy book which I'be found very useful. I joined the local running club 5 weeks ago because they're doing a beginner's course, which is great. I knew I was getting into it when everything on my Christmas list was running stuff! I haven't exercised for years and am pretty overweight/unfit so it has been a bit of a shock to the system but I'm much fitter already!

I have two DCs, 3 and 1, and currently a SAHM. Live in Devon, my little town is very hilly so I do a lot of hill training. Haven't done a race yet but rather hoping to try a parkrun sometime (nearest one is an hour's drive though). I signed up for Race for Life next year but would quite like to try a 10k too sometime.
