All ye fine runners who wish to get together to discuss running-related topics, or otherwise, come and join us here. We are a friendly and incredibly supportive group of runners, varying in ability, but all bonded together by a common theme of loving running, committed to squeezing it into our busy lives and wanting to improve our own PBs. So whether you are a full-time mum, part-time working mum, full-time working mum, working from home mum, mum who is studying, or even a dad Grin, add your race to the list so you can be sure of some moral support and advice along the way. And if you aren't racing, don't worry as you can enjoy the race reports and race vicariously.

Just back from school Christmas Fair, am tireder than after a 10 mile,r after manning (chicking?) bottle tombola, two sorts of lucky dip and bean bags through the hole game on my own whilst pretending that 3DS are nothing to do with me looking after 3DS. No running today.

Fanny if it comes to the crunch I will definitely go for the Olympic run. As you say its a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I grin every time I think about it, whilst hearing the Chariots of Fire music in my head...

Am with you all on sock front, I wash a minimum of 35 pairs a week. I bribe DS1 to pair them, but the sock monster regularly eats one of a pair. Why?

Ibby glad you managed to get out of the ditch okay. Must have been pretty worrying for you. You must have done something to earn some good karma!

Orange hope you are feeling better in the morning, and feel okay for Stockport 10

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 09/12/2011 19:42

Hi all

Haven't been about for a few days due to crazy work and Xmas party. Just catching up.

Rhet good to hear all is going well with dd2. I am with you and monkey on the bloody bleeding front - thought periods were meant to be better post childbirth??

Ibby glad to hear of your guardian angel! You sound a lit calmer than I would have been.

Orange hope you feel better soon. Think of the goody bag!

Had a bit of a crappy week due to work and ds being a grumpy toddler. But both dp and I went to our Xmas parties last night and snuck off from our parties for sneaky drinks together. Just had a great fast run and found that my lovely mum who was babysitting last night put a bottle of my favourite wine ( morgenhof chenin blanc) in my fridge. Happy now Grin

rhetorician · 09/12/2011 20:16

am in mortal battle of wills with DD1 over bedtime - I told her that whatever she said I was not going back up, and she said 'yes you will' which really clinched it. There has been silence for a bit, but gurgling and grunting from the pram - but we are onto the oh-so-delightful squitty breastmilk poos now...but I have Wine

so I did my 6k - sort of rising km by km - the last I did at 13kph - which pushed my heart rate up to 168 - so I guess my max is probably about another 10 above this as I wasn't at the puking/can't carry on point at that stage

peachLFDTsmuggler · 09/12/2011 21:12

Goodness Debi, I had never before considered how many socks a week I washed. Now I can see myself becoming obsessed with this!!!

orange, sending healing vibes your way lady!

squix · 09/12/2011 21:12

Oh ? a few minutes to catch up ? an exciting and entertaining few days read! I?ve not managed to come on here for about a week.

Rhet - congratulations on DD2 ? beautiful name for a beautiful girl ? you must all be so proud. Oh and great 5k achievement too! Hope DP is doing well.

Not managed much running either this week ? mixture of work and hurricane adventures!

Has been a busy week though?.had first rowing practice last Sunday ? loved it! Was bloomin? cold but calm on the water - considering only our cox had rowed before we did really well ? then bacon rolls, coffee and cake back at DH?s cousin?s house. Trip to the Cinema to see Arthur Christmas ? both DD and I really enjoyed it. Did ?Shred? for the first time on Tuesday, ached on Wednesday (mainly shoulders).

Then hurricane adventures yesterday ? took me nearly 3 hours to do a 25 minute journey, despite leaving work at 11:00. My main route home was closed so I had about a 40 mile detour ? dodging overturned lorries and fallen trees on route. I got home at just before 2, which was when we were told not to be outside. It was quite scary at times, particularly seeing some of the accidents on the roads. Was so incredibly windy. The main road out the village was still closed today whilst they cleared the fallen trees. Needless to say Thursday?s running club was cancelled.

Then today was DD?s nativity, lots of proud mummy moments - she did really well. She was Mary and the birth scene was fab ? managed to deliver straight into the manger after a quick shake to get the doll from out underneath her dress.

Hope to get a quick 4 miles in tomorrow whilst DD is at ballet (not that anything is very quick at the moment ? I seem to be getting slower!) then maybe a LSR on Sunday depending on the weather. Happy running to those of you that manage to get out this weekend.

bonkersLFDT20 · 09/12/2011 21:45

I'm really loving that we seem to have lots of breastfeeding, cloth nappying, co-sleeping Mummies on here, who also run! I feel proud to be part of such a great group of strong women Xmas Smile

No running for me this w/e. Hen Day tomorrow, then rugby and Santa train ride on Sunday, then just me and DS2 at home on Monday (it's my favorite day of the week is Monday).

Hopefully get back into the swing of things next week.

squix may your DD's real births be as smooth as the one she did today.
Glad you were OK in the wind. Nature can be scary.

Regarding periods. Mine aren't really any bother but post children they are more regular than they ever were before which is daft really since my family is complete and I could quite happily do without, thank you.

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 09/12/2011 21:57

What is everyone wearing for rubbing in the cold? I went out in running fleeced top, trousers , hat and gloves tonight as it was so chilly but was quite hot after about ten minutes - can't find a happy medium!

bonkersLFDT20 · 09/12/2011 22:03

I am still wearing knee length tights (I think they're meant to be calf length but I'm tall), but have moved into my long sleeved thin top with the thumb hole to keep hands warm. I never wear a hat, but do wear gloves (just got my super vivid yellow ronhills through Wiggle!).

Even in the snow I tend to warm up quite quickly so never wear a jacket.

I'm in the balmy south though!

rhetorician · 09/12/2011 22:26

long tights, long-sleeved top (technical - which just means nylon, right) plus another layer - I have a great one that is thin, but very warm. Gloves, warm socks, gloves. I have just looked out the window and it is already frosty (not good for feeding babies in the middle of the night!). It seems that DD2 feeds about every 2-3 hours in the day, and a bit longer at night - I take it that's OK. She feeds continuously early evening and around midnight too. She sleeps a good bit (e.g has been asleep now since about 8) but is perky and alert when she is awake.

stickyLFDTfingers · 09/12/2011 22:34

when I go running, I'm wearing a long sleeved top (the sleeves come over my hands) with a wind proof gilet, and ankle length running tights. The last couple of long runs I've had my new Lidl running hat on too. Very good, keeps my ears warm!

orange :( that's sad. I hope you do feel up to doing the race, but of course you shouldn't run any risks with your health.

squix I was looking at those photos of upturned lorries - very scary. Hope this windy weather isn't going to continue. The nativity sounds lovely!

peach like the sound of a chocolate market!

monkey poor you! I've had the coil for a few years now, it is great for periods (what are they again?). Fortunately, as I was a snarling bitch to start off with, no one has noticed any difference!

No running here. Not sure when I'm going to get out again, the days seem to be filling up alarmingly! But I guess that's Christmas for you. DD1's Christmas play was lovely too, she did so well, getting so grown up Xmas Smile

orangeLFDThead · 09/12/2011 22:52

Finally catching up. I also found having two so different from having just and wondered why on earth I use to find it so hard to just get out the door with ds1.
I also have heart rate monitor but not used it in years, might root it out.
Glad you enjoye running club fanny
Ah your poor we won't be able to get ivf, but I know a few people who have had they tubes cleaned a bit as that seemed to be the problem even though they had children. My tummy also not toned and don't hold any hope that it ever will be except aif I have a tummy tuck and that not going to happen.
Great news hat about course and pony.
Well done on your Tma score possom
peach ds1 was a projectile vomiting, seemed to be most of the feed. Then he would be straving again and feed then bring it all back up. It was very worrying and very stressful as I literally seemed to be sat on the sofa all day feeding. He was also not putting on weight. Neverfound anything that helped but eventually he stopped as quic as it started and he is fine. Sorry can't really give you any advice.
Hope your sister's mil ok ibby. Shock at your ditch expeience. So glad someone was able to help you. I once stopped as an old man had drove his car into a big hole from wroadworks. It was on a main road and peeing it down in rain. When I got out I got found his dw was still sat in the car even though is was more a less on its side. She was unable to get out but was perfectly happy. I ran his recover servise for him as he had no phone and hearing not that good to ring him self. He said they had been there a while and no one had stopped. All the time I was with him no one stopped either Angry.
Monkey I don't think I could do that move, but then again I do think they is something wrong with me Smile. There is lots of pilates and yoga moves I just can't do. My body just does not seem to bend in places that other peoples does. I also have no joints in my toes and can't bend them, I only actually discoveed this a few years ago as I thought everyone had toes like mine. So spent a few weeks going round like a mad woman asking everyone I knew if they could bend they toes.
Ah Rhet those pictures are lovely they both so sweet. Hope A settling ok.
Monkey I also have very heavy periods and have had some nightmares ie flooded in middle of Tesco, was so embarrased and busy trying to sort my self out I did not noice ds2 wander off. Then proceeded to drag ds1 round tesco looking for ds2. However ds1 had a bad chest and his asthma started playing up as I had made him run. Found ds2, burst into tears, gave ds1 inhaler and left tesco with blood soaked jeans and no shopping Blush. Anyway I find mefennmic acid and tranexamic acid really help, although they make my af's longer. I also use a mooncup and a towel now.
Wonderng do you all count how many socks you wash? I have not got a clue.
Sounds scary squix glad you ok.
Thinking if I feel better tomorrow might just do a mile to check running does not make me have a coughing fit. Don't want to do to much as I have never ran on consecutive days and don't think the day before the race is the time to try. Does that sound sensible?

orangeLFDThead · 09/12/2011 22:54

Oh my gosh that is a really long post. Very sorry, will try and catch up more regular Blush. Feel free if your bored to skip

YeahThatsTheBadger · 09/12/2011 22:56

Cherry That's so nice of your mum-she sounds lovely!

I really need to get a long sleeved top but will stick with the calf length tights. Although they are pretty much full length on me-opposite problem Bonkers! Can't do hat or gloves as I just get too hot.

Glad the thread babies are doing well.

Hoping to get out for a quick run tomorrow but like you say sticky there's so much to do in the run up to Christmas that it's hard to fit it all in.

orange hope you feel better soon.

orangeLFDThead · 09/12/2011 22:57

Sorry me again. Somehow my post managed to delete a few sentences so just so it makes sense:

Ah your poor ds ange is he ok? Did they not even do tests on you? Quite aware that won't be able to get ivf, but I know a few people who have had they tubes cleaned a bit as that seemed to be the problem even though they had children.

fannybanjo · 09/12/2011 23:18

orange oh no, I'm gutted for you. Sad I hope you feel better tomorrow. Can you sell your place as the race is very popular(?)

monkey bloody hell, THAT is dreadful, you shouldn't have to suffer like that. I know you may think this is extreme but has the doctor ever mentioned you having a D&C?

rhet glad you got to run, albeit at the gym. My heart rate peaks at around 195. It was around 160 average today so my LSR is too fast but i'd have to run 11m/m for it to be the right zone and I just can't do it. It's truly walking pace for me. I'd rather not bother iykwim. I do think though that running in gale force wind would push it up a lot? Grin

12 miles today at average 9.17m/m with last 2 miles at HM pace. Was meant to be slower but we got lost and had to peg it back to get girls from preschool. Hmm

orangeLFDThead · 09/12/2011 23:24

Why are you interested in doing it fanny? Not sure what it the done thing if I'm not up to it, do I let them know?

fannybanjo · 09/12/2011 23:27

orange I'm not no as I've done a lot past 7 days (44.5 miles) so couldn't do it justice. Maybe contact them and see if they have cancellation policy as they will have waiting list of people. Or look on runners world forum, usually people will say if they are looking for a place.

orangeLFDThead · 09/12/2011 23:33

ok thanks fanny

DebiTheScot · 10/12/2011 07:40

Just got up to get something to eat so I can do parkrun at 9 and it's -5C outside! Brrrrr.
Didn't get to bed till midnight either as was at work Christmas meal.

Will catch up with posts in a min...

futurity · 10/12/2011 07:56

Woops..fell off thread..too much reading and not enough posting. It's 0° here and just about to run (shiver)

DebiTheScot · 10/12/2011 08:07

orange I don't count the socks, just did 4 x 2 x7 to work it out.
Hope your cough and knee improve and it's not like my cough which has dragged on for about 3 weeks.

squix (I think it was squix) glad you're ok after Hurricane Bawbag.

Right need to find the post office card which dh couldn't find yesterday so I can get my trax.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 10/12/2011 09:04

ooh it's a cold one. Quite envious of you runners out there this morning, lovely weather. -5 though??? Brrrrr

squix, glad the Bawbag didn't get you. Rowing sounds like fun!

rhetorician · 10/12/2011 09:24

wondering if I might get out into the frosty wastes today - visitors, so maybe...A up pretty much all night feeding/farting

AngeChica · 10/12/2011 09:26

DS was fine - on walking home we came across some play rangers dressed as elves giving out leaflets for Christmas playscheme - he was convinced they were the real Santa's elves and I was delighted as it gave real credence to our pre-christmas threats and bribery campaign! Interesting about the "cleaning tubes" orange I have VLM in sights for the moment though I am going to make an appointment with the GP re pains when running as I might get referred. I will do 10 mile this w/e. My dad found an under armour hat on the ground while out walking and gave it to me, it's great and i wear it all the time.

futurity · 10/12/2011 09:37

Tempo run done..4.7 miles with 3 at 9min 35 pace. Not as evil as last time due to the wind not being as bad. Had my gloves and hat on but actually got a bit too warm and had to hold my gloves in the end. So lovely though on cold mornings with bright blue sky Smile
