All ye fine runners who wish to get together to discuss running-related topics, or otherwise, come and join us here. We are a friendly and incredibly supportive group of runners, varying in ability, but all bonded together by a common theme of loving running, committed to squeezing it into our busy lives and wanting to improve our own PBs. So whether you are a full-time mum, part-time working mum, full-time working mum, working from home mum, mum who is studying, or even a dad Grin, add your race to the list so you can be sure of some moral support and advice along the way. And if you aren't racing, don't worry as you can enjoy the race reports and race vicariously.

Thanks fanny you're a star ! Also London based with a room at the inn if you were to be stuck. I'd love to see DH's face when I told him fanny from MN was coming to stayGrin. Let me know how much 2 pairs and postage is.

How's Your family Rhet? Glad you're all sorted re the name, it's beautiful.

Sorry about your crappy morning moshi. how were your neighbours about the car (hope they're not as anal as DH re his (ours really but i don't feel quite the same about it) AUdi. He doesn't have much twattish behaviour but but he does when it comes to the car).

So cut back week for me. had a lovely, no pressure 5 miles this morning. Then dashed to costa for a coffee whilst I wrote a shopping list then a dash round poundland and waitrose (ridiculous to the sublime or maybe t'other way round). made me realise how I usually spend all my dd2 free time exercising. Must make more time for coffeeGrin

sfxmum · 05/12/2011 13:39

hello

rhet good to know it is settled, hope everyone is safely home and nesting nicely

fanny I don't have a spare room as such but that never stopped any of our friends crashing over Grin

poor dh as met a few MNetters over the years in the most odd (according to him) circunstances

I thought about a subscription for a running mag but I also like being very shallow and 'read' InStyle and Vogue it is all so pretty and so pointless

hardly any running here I am desperately trying to speed up the studying and write the next essay before the Christmas holidays start, it is all too busy for the next few weeks too

sfxmum · 05/12/2011 13:41

speaking of coffee I have every loyalty card going and get ridiculous pleasure out of a free cup of coffee when I get all my stamps Xmas Blush

Wheelybug · 05/12/2011 13:47

Ooh me too sfx although am a victim of marketing and use costa because they have the best reward system (but there's not a great deal of choice on our high st).

sfxmum · 05/12/2011 13:55

I quite like Costa and usually get good service in the one by Richmond station, unfortunately the same cannot be said for their branch in Sheen, seriously made me loose my rag a couple of times, a very rare thing indeed, so when there I go to Nero

off to dd's school in a minute to help out

peachLFDTsmuggler · 05/12/2011 14:12

Am usually a Nero kind of a gal, and am often there stuffing my face with cakes buying kgs of coffee beans. I like Costa too. Starbucks, not so much. Their Venti latte is a ridiculous size and is basically a pint of hot milk!!! All a bit of a moot point as our high street isn't nice enough to have any of these chains has more of an independant style of shop!

rhetorician · 05/12/2011 14:20

we are home! A seems a keen feeder, and is snoozing (for now!). DD1 will meet her when she comes home from nursery - a bit nervous about how that will go. We feel so much calmer about this baby though (peach is this how you feel with Kate?). DP is pretty good shape - she was much happier with the birth this time. She's just brilliant.

I like costa too.

Wheelybug · 05/12/2011 14:25

Great news rhet ! How long you off work for ? Does it conveniently roll into Christmas ?

yes I am a fan of Nero too - the stronger the coffee the better. Agreed re Starbucks not being great - although I give them bonus points for their food offerings which I think are superior to Costa. but maybe I think about these things too much.

rhetorician · 05/12/2011 14:29

fortunately teaching term finished on Friday, and I can probably fit my other stuff around the 3 of them...I'll probably go in for a couple of hours on Wednesday to see students.

Not sure when I'll get to run again, but Wednesday, maybe. DD1 will be at home tomorrow, so I'll need to keep her occupied, but I figure soon I'll be able to get out on nursery days, so 3x a week...and maybe another if DP's mum/sister etc comes by

peachLFDTsmuggler · 05/12/2011 14:46

Aww Rhet, glad your wee family is home, and DD2 is feeding well. Am sure DD1 will be totally in love with her before long. Agree it is si much easier second time around. I have a book which I was looking at the other day that I had written times of feeds and naps in. Pointless of course, but I just didn't have a clue how often and how much they should be feeding. And I was actually pretty laid back!!! In saying that DD2 is a lot easier and sleeps more. By this time with DD1 we were in colic hell with her screaming the place down night and day!

Think that schedule sounds do-able too!

stickyLFDTfingers · 05/12/2011 14:57

how lovely rhet! I hope DD1's introduction to big sisterhood goes well, fingers crossed. And if you are getting out three times a week that will be brilliant. You might even stay sane!

I like Mike-on-the-Quayside coffee. He was outside where I used to work. When I lost my job last year he bought me a panettone. I nearly cried! Lovely coffee and lovely man.

Thanks for thinking of me fanny, and sorry you're not going for a trip away.

Didn't get as long a run in as I wanted - DP told me he needed new shirts before he goes away again (he's always away at the moment!) and could I go and get some...

So I did 7.5 miles. Even after the sun there were some pretty skitey bits. My neighbour told me they've put my name down for next year's pantomime, as my nearly falling over face with windmilling arms was oh-so-amusing Xmas Blush. Was OK once I got back onto tracks, but my shoes are VERY muddy!

I like that these days 7.5 miles is a short run. I am growing up as a runner I think!!

fannybanjo · 05/12/2011 16:24

rhet glad DP and A home. How's DD1 taken to having a baby sister?

sticky you did well to get out, weather frightful today.

wheely I daren't ask why DH would be Shock to meet me... WinkGrin. Thanks for offer and same to sfx. Smile

I've send all the Snow Trax by first class recorded, didn't want them going missing. They will be with you all in next couple of days. Wheely yours was £3.30 delivery so total £15.

RunningAllDay · 05/12/2011 16:27

Know what you mean, sticky! Today I felt like a real runner out across the fields and through all the woods. I took my friend on a magical mystery tour across the countryside, ending up on the coast path above the sea - beautiful sunshine and incredible views. I am now, however, totally fucked. 16 miles at seriously slow pace (it was trails all the way - mud, water, stones - love it but its not like roads) and I am just hanging on til bedtime wondering if DH might clean my trainers if they are left sufficiently obviously and repellantly in the kitchen :)

Have a wonderful first evening as a family of 4, rhet - hope DD1 gets used to A (also a gorgeous name!) quickly. My own DD1 was supremely uninterested in DD2 when she came along. But after about 5 days couldn't remember life without her. And nor could we.

Good luck with that knee orange! Hope some snow arrives for all you well-prepared types... I am hoping last year was a fluke (in Devon anyway) and can't wait for snow where it is supposed to be - 10 more days and I'll be on the slopes! Skiing rivals with running as the best sport ever actually, skiing wins as you get to eat a LOT of cheese

monkeyLFDTwench · 05/12/2011 16:30

Ooooh a good coffee debate!

Like Nero the best but we don't have one. Second best for coffee is Costa, BUT I don't like their cups as my coffee goes cold and their decaf smells of wet dog. Starbucks does the best decaf and cakes. I loathe all milky drinks and couldn't drink a latte if you paid me.

Best coffee of all is from an independent, they have a Moroccan man there who makes the most fabulous coffee - but I don't have it much as it keeps me awake!

fannybanjo · 05/12/2011 16:33

Well done running sounds like a great run. 16 miles fantastic.

I have a spare set of Trax here all wrapped (in my haste to get them out, I wrapped too many!) - if anyone still wants a pair, let me know.

DH treated me before to heart rate monitor so rhet I shall be reporting to you with my findings. I need to work out how hard I should be running and what heart rate for my intervals later. Also got new pair of Brooks Defyance 3's. Last pair only £49. They price matched the HRM too, they had it for sale at £59 but I googled it on my phone and found it for £36.50!

stickyLFDTfingers · 05/12/2011 16:39

running your run sounds lovely! Are you North or South Devon? (hate to say it, but depending where you are, snow isn't such an uncommon occurrence in Devon. I have memories of spending my 15th birthday running across Exmoor in horizontal snow. Ooh I was tough in them days (actually I wasn't, I just had a fiercer-than-fanny PE teacher!)

Orange hope you get a good answer tomorrow. Just as well not to be running in hailstones Xmas Shock, and hope your knee recovers. The treadmill experience sounds promising.

stickyLFDTfingers · 05/12/2011 16:41

fanny you should set up an ebay business. Friend of my Dad did that when he lost his job in the NHS, and ended up making far more money than he did when he was working before.

Wheelybug · 05/12/2011 16:42

Thanks fanny - £15 should be winging
Its way to you through cyberspace. don't worry, DH doesn't read any of your posts, I just childishly like the idea of saying 'fanny from mumsnet'...... I'll get my coatGrin

OOh running where you off to ? Is there snow yet. We were perusing the snow reports the other day. We are still trying to decide whether to go this season or not - DH has balance issues and has only been once since he's been ill and whilst it was fine, he didn't ski as well as he used to so he's a bit put off . Plus my parents have come the last couple of times and got dd2 out of the crèche early and they aren't coming this time and not sure if dd2 will be happy in crèche all day and she'll just be a bit little to do classes. I agree skiing right up there with running !

right, have to go and sit through enjoy dd1's last ballet lesson of the term. It's termed a show but not really. Dd2 always tries to join in and I don't think
Her new teacher will be too impressed so
It could be a looooong hour.

fannybanjo · 05/12/2011 16:49

sticky everyone says the same as I could sell sand to an Arab but I just wouldn't know what to sell! Retail tough at the moment. DH sells cars and that's bad enough. However, I have no problem buying things for other people... Grin

wheely thanks!

futurity · 05/12/2011 17:04

was there a link to the Trax to see what they look like?

RunningAllDay · 05/12/2011 17:08

Oh, sympathies Wheely - ballet is the pits. Have just managed to persuade DD1 to give it up in favour of drama (not sure that's any better) but DD2 loves it. I'm off to Courchevel - there has been some snow this week, and more forecast so its a bit less desperate than it was looking last week. I think you still need to be very high at this season though - last year we were totally spoilt with empty pistes, amazing fresh snow and clear skies - utterly perfect. This year I'm going without DH (which is a huge pity as it is 'our thing') but with his parents Hmm; we are so keen for the girls to learn to ski young that he's OK with us going without him, despite desperate envy! We learnt in our 20s and have no style whatsoever. I agree its hard without help (parents) and feeling limited must be so frustrating for your DH. Hope you do manage to go though - even if he is a bit slower on the pistes, there is still the whole ski holiday thing which is so great (i.e. endless red wine and cheese) :)

sticky in East Devon which is less snowy than N Devon and more so than S Devon (I believe from talking to crusty old types). Were you at boarding school on Exmoor (sounds very jolly hockeysticks) or did you grow up there?

fanny rhet's HRM book (John Parker) is fab, though from what I understand of your personality, I challenge you to run as slowly as it recommends and not get frustrated!!

N4NNY · 05/12/2011 17:12

fanny if you have no takers for the last pair of trax please could buy them f:)

fannybanjo · 05/12/2011 17:13

futurity google Snow Trax. Can't link as on my phone. What with 5 of us in this house, I NEVER get on the computer. Hmm. If you want these ones, let me know. They're wrapped ready to go. Smile

fannybanjo · 05/12/2011 17:14

N4NNY they're yours! Sorry futurity but let me know if you're desperate, I'll get some more, not a problem chuck.

DH just brought me home a mahoosive bunch of stunning flowers. Blush
