Runners United - Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

MoshiMoshi · 29/11/2011 09:04

All ye fine runners who wish to get together to discuss running-related topics, or otherwise, come and join us here. We are a friendly and incredibly supportive group of runners, varying in ability, but all bonded together by a common theme of loving running, committed to squeezing it into our busy lives and wanting to improve our own PBs. So whether you are a full-time mum, part-time working mum, full-time working mum, working from home mum, mum who is studying, or even a dad Grin, add your race to the list so you can be sure of some moral support and advice along the way. And if you aren't racing, don't worry as you can enjoy the race reports and race vicariously.

Oh I'm going to get RW subscription as they have a Camelpak fanny pack as a free gift and I need one with more than 2 bottles for my ultra Grin training...

DebiTheScot · 04/12/2011 21:37

My thoughts so far are:
Runner's World- access to all training plans online (but do I need them all? that Smartcoach looks ok), less fashion, maybe higher level running than I do?

Women's Running- maybe easier reading, good exercises, at a level more suited to me, too much fashion.

But that's based on having read 1 issue of each recently!

peachLFDTsmuggler · 04/12/2011 21:40

Dubai, fanny??? How, errr festive! Seriously though, am sure you'll have a fab time. Will be nice to have a bit of "me" time I'm sure! Do you get to go business class???

DebiTheScot · 04/12/2011 21:47

fanny tell me more about the fanny pack. There's nothing about it online.

Come on, anyone else want the Snow Trax from fanny? (see her post at 17:44 today) I need someone else to want them!

fannybanjo · 04/12/2011 21:51

peach I'm trying to justify paying out to go, it's £158 for the flight, more than likely Virgin Premium Economy. However it's only standby and there is a risk I don't get there as flight is pretty full going out. Not 100% yet. I also am antsy about leaving the girls. Never done it before and don't like the thought of it really Would be lovely to just have good laugh with my friend though, chill on train then flight then nice sunbathe and shop then have Neal in evening with drinks. Then fly home Sunday. What should I do???

sfxmum · 04/12/2011 21:53

they have a couple of subscription offers in the current issue the camelback

it is www.hearstsubs.co.uk/rw/SB69

peachLFDTsmuggler · 04/12/2011 21:53

Ok Debi, fanny, I'll take the other pair!!!

What do I need to do? Pm you fanny, to work out how to get the money to you?

fannybanjo · 04/12/2011 21:53

Haha Debi it's like QVC! It's the Camelbak Delany race pack and the offer is at www.hearstsubs.co.uk/rw/SB69

fannybanjo · 04/12/2011 21:55

Right, not have Neal. Have meal. Hmm.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 04/12/2011 21:56

Defo go fanny! It is full on looking after three children (I imagine!!) and you deserve a break. You will miss them, of course, but it will do you good, and you get t have a life, even if onlyvfor a weekend, once in a blue moon!!!

I went away in August for two nights for first time without DD and I was worried about missing her, but tbh I had a flipping great tome and felt quite liberated by it. Do it!!!

peachLFDTsmuggler · 04/12/2011 21:58

Christ! My iPhone autocorrect is giving yours a run for it's money!

fannybanjo · 04/12/2011 22:05

Peach haha these phones will be death of us! I think you may have convinced me... I'll see what my friend thinks re chance of me getting on the flight. If not, I could just jump train home. Or there's always the
Jump seat in the cockpit! Seriously, the captain at his discretion will take people on it. Be interesting if I ended up sat in cockpit, I'd be telling em how to fly the plane...

PM me your addresses girls and I'll send you my PayPal (or bank details) and I'll go get them tomorrow. Handy things to have, I remember struggling last year in the bad weather.

rhetorician · 04/12/2011 22:24

I love 'had a flipping great tome' - sounds like an apt description of my social life!!

OK ladies, I've discovered that there are 2 running clubs within a stone's throw of here - how should I decide which one to join? one is slightly closer and seems more open (all abilities welcome etc), but the other has better facilities. I don't know enough about running clubs to know what to ask or look out for.

shattered, must sleep

runnerstipple · 04/12/2011 22:26

Congratulations Rhet, DP and DD1 on safe and speedy arrival of gorgeously named DD2. Just skimmed through to find out if there was any news, will catch up on rest of thread tomorrow.

Wheelybug · 04/12/2011 22:53

Rhet. In that case, don't worry what anyone thinks about names ! FWIW, having a normally shortened name, if you don't want it shortened, it won't be. A few might try but I have never been the normal shortened form of my name (even though I am biased towards the name Anna) .

Right, I have changed my wishlist to a subscription to RW, just in case you think I am shallow and only read it for the clothes articles.... And no I haven't asked for sweaty betty vouchers either. Oh no. Ahem.

Sfx - thanks for link. There is a 5 miler but think its mainly on the tarmac paths so I think i'll just run from dds nursery to save time. I fancy some coffee drinking time tomorrow morning.

DebiTheScot · 04/12/2011 22:59

That link doesn't tell me about the camelback though :-(

DebiTheScot · 04/12/2011 23:02

it's ok I googled it. Looks good.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 05/12/2011 00:07

fanny, you'd be in that cockpit, hoovering round their feet and giving them advice on starching their white shirts!

Am getting RW subscription for Xmas Smile

Rhet, is there anyone locally you could ask, or a local forum where you could ask the question anonymously? Personnally I'd go for friendly. What sort of "facilities" does the other one have? Do you both run on convenient nights for you?

Themasterandmargaritas · 05/12/2011 03:21

Heyyyy cingratulations rhet to you dp and dd1! Grin Iseult is a lovely name, dh will be very Envy as it was one of his faves. Who cares what anyone else thinks? Ds1 has a slightly poncey name that noone liked at first, now it is just him.

It's raining again, forget your snow trax, can someone send me a boat?

monkeyLFDTwench · 05/12/2011 07:22

fanny am I too late for the Snow Trax? If not don't worry, or if there's no-one to split with I'll have two .

fannybanjo · 05/12/2011 08:14

Monkey you're not too late. No-one to split them with so far though!

Wheelybug · 05/12/2011 08:15

Monkey, if you don't really want two pairs, i'll have a full pack as tthey'll fit dh too so I can wrap some up for another Christmas pressie.

How are you all this morning rhet ?

bonkersLFDT20 · 05/12/2011 08:18

Congratulations to Rhet and to your DP and little DD1. Wonderful news.
I love her name and think it's rude of people to say they don't like it when you've already chosen it.

fannybanjo · 05/12/2011 09:02

I think I've PM'ed everyone back. Just to clarify we have:

Peach x 1
Wheely x 2
Debi X 1
SFX x 1
Monkey x 1

So I need to go to Costco and buy 3 sets of women's 4-9. 2 for Wheely, 1 for Debi, 1 for SFX, 1 for Monkey and 1 for Peach = 6. Fuck I am GOOD at maths.

rhet Hope all is okay this morning. Hope name issue not stressing you out at to be fair I would be Angry at anyone who caused me angst just having I had given birth. Tell them to fuck off. Wink A name grows on a baby, I could not imagine any of mine being called their middle names. They would have been Elisabeth, Rose and Louisa.

orangeLFDThead · 05/12/2011 09:22

rhet I don't know how running clubs work but could you not have a session with both and see which you prefer.
