All ye fine runners who wish to get together to discuss running-related topics, or otherwise, come and join us here. We are a friendly and incredibly supportive group of runners, varying in ability, but all bonded together by a common theme of loving running, committed to squeezing it into our busy lives and wanting to improve our own PBs. So whether you are a full-time mum, part-time working mum, full-time working mum, working from home mum, mum who is studying, or even a dad Grin, add your race to the list so you can be sure of some moral support and advice along the way. And if you aren't racing, don't worry as you can enjoy the race reports and race vicariously.

Congrats to Rhet...was thinking of you both all day what with contractions and DD1's ear! Hope you are all alright x

DebiTheScot · 04/12/2011 19:39

Congratulations Rhet, I've never heard that name before but I think I like it Smile

fanny I wouldn't mind some trax things too. I'll pm yo. When not on phone.

DebiTheScot · 04/12/2011 19:41

And London to Brighton sounds interesting. I do still like the idea of thunder run but don't know how realistic it is.

rhetorician · 04/12/2011 19:48

dd1 is pretty poorly - nasty ear infection, and hasn't had either of us here all day...I am glad you all like the name, I seem to be having a low-key row with their dad as he HATES it...and wants us to swap the names around. Grrr.

ibbydibby · 04/12/2011 19:49

Congratulations Rhet, and just love the name. 3 pushes and out - wow! Hope DP well. How is DD1?

Weirdly DH had an ear infection shortly after the birth of his sister (many years ago) - as did DS1 following the birth of DS2!

Hope you have a good relaxing evening - what a weekend! Wine

fannybanjo · 04/12/2011 19:54

That's fine Debi. Once DH got them out the car I'll weigh them then can give you all a defo price. sfx hadn't had chance to get on computer yet but will read your PM in a bit.

Hope baby rhet doing ok.

fannybanjo · 04/12/2011 19:55

Oh no rhet poor DD1. Ear infections are a nightmare. Sad

DebiTheScot · 04/12/2011 19:57

Poor rhetdd1, hope she picks up soon. Presumably she's got antibiotics, they usually kick in pretty quickly.

I'm going to ask for a subscription to either Runner's World or Women's Running for Christmas, any thoughts on which one?

rhetorician · 04/12/2011 19:57

yes, it's been a mad day - plus a woman reversed her car into me at the traffic lights on the way to the emergency doctor! no damage (well, slight dent in number plate)...she was being a tool...I feel a bit odd sat here on my own with DD1 in bed and my scrummy DD2 all the way across town. I do have Wine and am totally wired.

My mum hates her name too, it seems...I think it's DP's call, she is the one with piles and a second degree tear...

Wheelybug · 04/12/2011 20:03

Oh poor dd1 rhet and you must feel a bit odd on your own, worrying about people's thoughts on the name. But you shouldn't worry about what anyone else thinks if you and dp love it (although not sure what standing you give their dad I'm these matters ? ).

monkey London to Brighton sounds interesting. Can't find a website. Can it be done as a relay ?

drno I've been having same dilemma on mags..... Have plumped for women's running but not sure....

Wheelybug · 04/12/2011 20:04

In these matters....

rhetorician · 04/12/2011 20:14

well we don't, but I feel a bit odd about using a name that he and his family clearly hate...it will get resolved. We were originally going to use Anastasia but DP said that she didn't want the baby to be called Anna (which i actually really like); but DD1 has a name that is frequently and variously shortened, and no-one does, and I have a feeling that Iseult would end up as Izzy which I like less than Anastasia. DD1 also said she didn't like it!! on several occasions...

N4NNY · 04/12/2011 20:21

rhet congratulations on the birth of you dd lovely name.

Yesterday's Santa run was horrible only 10 people turned up 5 of which were trainers from the running group the rest apart from me and my friend are in bottom group. So it was a very fast run that I tried to keep up with but just really struggled and ended up kinda running on my own dressed as Santa :( we got lots of toots and cheers and lots of really strange looks. I must admit I totally lost my sence of humor towards the end when a car tooted at me and yelled at me to get moving to catch up with others and I shouted ah feck off :( bad Santa. then to top it off we were going to the pub after for drinks and lunch and no one was staying for lunch after I'd really been looking forward to it.

Was Really dreading today's run after my rubbish run yesterday but today's was great didn't really run much of it due to the thick mud we had to run through but the pace was much better suited to me. There was lots of slipping and slidding going on. Luckly I didn't fall but saw lots who had.

Jezabelle · 04/12/2011 20:27

Been away for the weekend. Just dropped in to check if baby rhet was wil us. She is Smile. Congratulations rhet. Welcome to the world baby rhet.

RunningAllDay · 04/12/2011 20:27

rhet I remember telling my mum what my DD1's name was - first name L (which I have wanted for a daughter since I was about 10) second name B - and she said "Oh, I LOVE B" which was just so encouraging... We stuck with L and everyone is used to it and likes it (except my French grandma who can't quite cope with having a grand-daughter with a German name!).

Hope you make a happy decision!

Wheely and Debi - I have gone with RunnersWorld; I find Women's Running mainly about clothes. Was tempted by Trail Running, but it only comes out 5 (?) times a year, so get more Xmas value from RW Grin

RunningAllDay · 04/12/2011 20:29

great grand-daughter doh

Sorry about the Santa run N4NNY; sounds pretty rubbish.

orangeLFDThead · 04/12/2011 20:32

Don't worry rhet it will soon grow on them and they won't e able to imagine her as anything else. Hope dd1 ok.
N4NNY sorry your race didn't go well yesterday but Smile that it did today.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 04/12/2011 20:35

Aww Rhet, bless you, sitting there on yer tod! If this were a Hollywood rom com, the doorbell would go and all your gal pals, i.e. US would pile in with fizzy wine and mine (fanny) pies and have a knees up!

DD1 and her dad will get used to it am sure. Your mum, well, I don't think you need me to tell you her opinion can be put to one side.

Hope DP recovers quickly. And may I be the first to recommend Scheriproct, for the Dukes. It really is very find stuff Wink

hope you manage to get a good sleep and that DD1 feels better in the morning. So exciting that tomorrow there'll be 4 of you at home, warms the cockles of my heart!

rhetorician · 04/12/2011 20:38

orange I know you are right - I think her dad probably just feels a bit left out at the moment, which is understandable - plus he has a lot going on (his dad had major surgery on Thurs, his brother and pg girlfriend crashed their car yesterday...). It is a very Irish name and a lot of English people would never have heard it before. Suspect DP will dig her heels in. And rightly so.

Thanks for all your kind words ladies, and patience with endless on/off labour.

N4NNY sorry about bad santa trip - they should have joined forces with my cross lady yesterday (was it only yesterday I did a 5k??)

peachLFDTsmuggler · 04/12/2011 20:38

N4NNY, what a bummer about yesterdays Santa run! I, too would have been utterly fecked off about the lunch non-event! Grrrr.

Glad today's was better!

fannybanjo · 04/12/2011 20:58

rhet it's hard because obviously you have a good relationship with the girls' father, however he and your mother will get over it and we can't name our children to please the rest of the World. Go with your heart on this one. Smile

N4NNY I am so sorry to hear your run was awful but I have to be honest, I laughed when I was reading about it, the way you have described it was comical. Grin

New York has turned into Dubai!!! So, I shall be in Dubai next weekend. I wonder if they sell duty free Brooks....

AngeChica · 04/12/2011 21:00

Congratulations rhet and DP on safe arrival of DD2. I think it is a beautiful name. I have always loved the Arthurian legends. Hope your DD1 :) is feeling better soon.

N4NNY · 04/12/2011 21:10

fanny even I'm laughing about it today. Yesterday I was giving up running hated Santa and most of all hated the running school trainner who got me there dressed as Santa on the promise of a yummy pub lunch and a wine or two and I ended up back at home by 12.15 and had a toasted bagel

MrsWednesday · 04/12/2011 21:20

It is a beautiful name, and she looks gorgeous too! Hope DP recovers quickly (and DD1 for that matter) and that all you are all back at home together tomorrow. Must be very odd and quiet at home after all the adrenaline of the day has subsided.

Santa run sounds rubbish but you have described it comically.

No running for me, just done level 2 shred in between cooking and eating a massive roast dinner...

I have had a Runners World subscription this year and have enjoyed it - I skip over most of the clothing related stuff but there is lots of other articles I like. Never get round to doing any of the exercises they talk about though.

fannybanjo · 04/12/2011 21:22

Grin N4NNY at least you have humour about it! Did sound hilarious running as a lone Santa... Must have looked crazy!

Right postage for the Snow Trax will be £2.50 per pair so it'll make it £8.50 each (as long as they are split). I've googled and Asda sell small ones for £8 plus £4 P&P. However people complaining they don't get the correct sizes when sent. Let me know ladies, I don't mind. No skin off my nose to pop to Costco. Debi I think to make it worth you while, you need someone to split OR I could get you two pairs and take them out the package. Don't think postage would be more than £3 so you'd get 2 for £15.
