Shred for Couchto5Kers and anybody else

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/09/2011 20:51

This thread is a spin off from the CouchTo5k 2011 Pt 3, where some of us decided that as well as doing the C25K we would try the Shred (preferably wearing purple nail varnish)

All Shredders are welcome, not just those from the C25k thread (and not just those with purple nails).

My pelvic floor can't cope with the double skipping jumps, so I do dainty little jumps and barely leave the floor.

I just get so jolly HOT doing it all! Maybe it's my advanced age.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 21/09/2011 13:54

VivaLeBeaver - I get in a pickle with those too, and often have to restart!
Sweaty - at 'dainty jumps'

melodyangel · 21/09/2011 18:24

Day seven tick - moved up to level two as feeling left out! Needed a long lie down after.

LinzerTorte · 21/09/2011 19:21

Level 2 Day 2 done, but it has taken me several hours to summon up the energy to post that I've done so.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 21/09/2011 19:29

Same here, I am really questioning whether I can keep this up everyday with running as well. When I got down for the first lot of planks tonight I could feel how achey my shoulders were and my knees feel tired out too. I am in a dilemma as I don't want to stop the running. Hmm. Might have to alternate days I think.

LinzerTorte · 21/09/2011 19:49

I can only do the Anita version of the planks. In fact, I can only do the Anita version of virtually everything except that ice skating move.

I had an e-mail from Amazon to say my weights are finally on their way. Was quite tempted to write back and say, "No! Too late! I don't need them now!" It's as much as I can do to cope with the 1 kg ones. But seeing as they're purple, perhaps I shall use them for decorative purposes. Grin

Talking of purple, I'm loving my Vivid Violet nails, which are lasting surprisingly well. I may have to stock up on some more Stay Perfect colours when I'm in London. Smile

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 22/09/2011 03:43

WhoKnows, I have decided to do the 30 Days, and then alternate between shredding and re-doing C25K to try to build up some speed. Well it will be just short of 30, as we are going away next weekend, so I'll have got up to day 26, and I plan to start to alternate when we get back.

I would have run this evening, only there was a drinks party at work and before I knew what had happened I had necked a glass or two of white wine (it was disgusting btw, the only way to get it down was to take massive swigs Grin). I was a bit Angry with myself, as I've been doing well on not drinking Sunday-Thursday. I'm also going out for Wine tomorrow night.

LinzerTorte · 22/09/2011 07:46

I've also decided to alternate between shredding and running once I've done the 30 days, and may even allow myself to have weekends off. Shock

I should probably try to join you on the not drinking from Sundays to Thursdays shredded, as I've got into the habit of having a glass or two of wine every single evening once the DC are in bed. I didn't have any while DH was away and didn't miss it at all, but I'm sure I'll find myself reaching for the corkscrew this evening...

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 22/09/2011 09:16

Not drinking I don't have a problem with, very rarely touch the stuff, it's nibbling in the evenings that it my weakness, I munched my way through a giant packet of prawn crackers that I found in the cupboard last night Blush.

My legs are achey in funny places today. Planning to shred as soon as I get home from work. I have decided that I'm not doing the early mornings, but will endeavour to fit it in somehow during the day. I am leaving a set of gym clothes ready by my bed at all times so I can change very quickly when I spot a window of opportunity.

LinzerTorte · 22/09/2011 09:40

My legs are also really aching today, which is surprising as they were fine after day 1 of level 2. Maybe it's because I ran and shredded on the same day. Or maybe I just phoned it in too often on the first day.

I'm quite strict about rationing my favourite foods, mainly because I can't get them here so generally have to make my fruit & nut and hobnobs last for around six months! Wine, OTOH, is very easy and cheap to get hold of (am always Shock at the prices in the UK) and is definitely my downfall.

melodyangel · 22/09/2011 12:22

Day eight - tick. I went back to level one. I know,I know Jillian would be very dissappointed at my phoning!

I might try alternating level one and two next week, plus have teamed up with a friend to go running - I have given up on DH ever going running again.

WhoKnows - munchies in the evening are my downfall too.

No shred until next week now. Tomorrow is allotment day and DS1 has offered to come too... should be amusing.

Have a good weekend every one.

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 22/09/2011 12:28

Well done melody, I've just done day whatever (too tired to count Grin)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 22/09/2011 13:54

I have done something really stupid and you can all tell me I'm really stupid Sad

I ran out of one of my preventer inhalers last Friday and will get replacements tomorrow (v disorganised) But my lungs are feeling more and more congested and ropey, so I think it is unlikely that I will (or should) shred or run until at least Sunday Sad as these things need to build up again.

When my asthma is under control, it is exactly that, under control, but it isn't at the moment Sad

I shall post this on both threads, then you will all know what a loon I am, I'm far too casual..

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 22/09/2011 21:20

Aww, Pistey, hope you get sorted soon. I have no experience of asthma to offer any thoughts really but it sounds as though you are right to give the exercise a swerve for a few days.

Day 3 (or 4? not sure) of Level 2 today. It's not getting any easier! I managed to Nadalee some of the plank jacks in the first set but then couldn't do the second set at all and collapsed in a heap. The seesaw lunges take me the whole time to get into the rhythm. The twisting planks at the end I just don't think I am doing right as they only hurt my thighs, not my abs. I think I am sticking my bum in the air too much.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 23/09/2011 10:03

Day 5 done. This week is going very slowly.

OP posts:
LinzerTorte · 23/09/2011 10:36

But at least you're still doing it, WhoKnows. I took a rain check on Day 3 yesterday, so really must do it today. I've found the running slightly easier since I started shredding so I'm sure it's helping - and that's my main motivation for carrying on (much as I love Jillian and her two best girls Hmm).

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 23/09/2011 12:46

Awww pistey. Hope you get the inhaler today and that the asthma is back under control. I know you're juggling a lot at the moment (how is DD's foot?) and I tend also to sort everyone else out and then realise that I haven't been looking after myself, particularly when home alone. So I won't tell you off, because I know what it's like, but I will remind you to look after yourself and prioritise your health.

Linzer I think I found the running a bit easier the other night as I re-started C25K, and one minute of running was a breeze compared to two minutes of Jillian's cardio.

WhoKnows keep going. I did day 8 today and managed the walk out press ups. I also dropped my belly down more in the last abs which made a difference. I'm still over-heating and huffing and puffing so it must be doing some good Grin.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 23/09/2011 13:55

Yes, I suspect I would have given up ny now if I wasn't getting encouragement on here.

Shredded I discovered today that I can manage the walkout planks if I put my feet wider apart, so that's good. However the twisting planks defeated me again, I tried dropping my stomach but then it was in the way Blush. So I turned over and did a set of oblique crunches instead.

LinzerTorte · 23/09/2011 20:28

Failed to shred yet again today. It's been a bit of a strange day, though - friend's DH's funeral this afternoon and my head is all over the place.

shredded Yes, when I went for my run today I had to keep reminding myself that it was nothing compared with Jillian's high knees!

WhoKnows I don't think I'm doing the twisting planks right either as they don't seem to be difficult enough (especially compared with the rest of level 2).

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 23/09/2011 23:58

Linzer sorry to hear you have been at a funeral today Sad

I'm with you and WhoKnows on the twisting planks at the end Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 24/09/2011 19:46

Phoned it in today. Just wanted a break, I shredded and ran yesterday and was so tired I fell asleep on my bed fully dressed at 9pm after reading the DCs a story, plus my knees are twinging a bit. Back to it tomorrow!

OP posts:
LinzerTorte · 24/09/2011 20:57

I know exactly how you feel, WhoKnows - I was the same yesterday. And the day before... Finally managed Level 2 Day 3 this morning, though.

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 24/09/2011 22:43

Yup, I feel the same - must be the weather. I took myself off for a nice afternoon nap today, giving DH instructions to wake me at 5.30 so I could shred. He's gone out for a run, and I'm sitting here in my sports bra, pants and trainers trying to work up the enthusiasm.

On the positive side, this is day 9 of level 2 for me, so only 2 more days of sodding squats and v raises. I don't mind what's in level if it means I don't have to do them anymore.

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 24/09/2011 22:44

level 3 I meant

(See, I'm too scared even to mention it Grin)

LinzerTorte · 25/09/2011 09:36

Day 9, shredded? Shock I didn't realised I'd skived off quite that often; I've only just done Day 4. For the first time ever I managed to do all the plank jacks Nadalee-stylee, but I've worked out that it's my arms that are the problem; they're too spindly to hold up the rest of my body for very long. On the plus side, I'm starting to find the cardio ever so slightly easier.
