Shred for Couchto5Kers and anybody else

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/09/2011 20:51

This thread is a spin off from the CouchTo5k 2011 Pt 3, where some of us decided that as well as doing the C25K we would try the Shred (preferably wearing purple nail varnish)

All Shredders are welcome, not just those from the C25k thread (and not just those with purple nails).

c'mon pistey, tell us, tell us .

Having met you I know that you are slim and lovely and have nothing to hide unlike me.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/09/2011 08:15

Day 3 done. I ran last night too. Had a hot bath before bedtime, but my calves are still stiff. I was starving last night, going to have to watch I don't start eating too much again (as well as doing the Shred and running I am trying to lose weight using MyFitnessPal).

It's getting easier in that I know what I'm doing, so getting into the correct positions quicker at each change over etc, but I particularly find the Jumping Jacks hard, struggle to complete the 2nd lot in section 1, and I have noticed that my arms are not going anything like as high as Anita and Natalie. I might be on Level 1 for a while.

I agree Pistey is slim and lovely!

I am losing count, I think I am on day 6 of the shred. It must be getting easier (although doesn't feel like it at the time!) as I am intending to go for a run after doing it this morning

GettinTrimmer · 08/09/2011 08:18

whoknows I had stiff calves, but they are alright today. I agree about getting into the correct positions, last time I did the shred about a year ago I hurt my back

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/09/2011 09:02

Havs just got back from 10 min walk to school and back and the calves are loosening up again nicely.

GettinTrimmer - good luck with back to back shred and run, I haven't dared try that yet! I have intermittent back problems, which was one of the reasons I wanted to do this, to get my core strength improved, I am also prone to hurty knees if I am not very careful with lunges, so yes, I need to listen carefully to Jillian. It will help when I lose some weight!

whoknows that was the plan, but I went for a run first....then couldn't face the shred! Maybe a touch ambitious atm.

orangina · 08/09/2011 17:15

(marking my place for yet another attempt to stick to the shred for more than 3 days)

JelliBelli · 08/09/2011 20:53

You're all doing really well. I was achey all over when I started Shredding.

Still waiting for my new copy of the DVD to arrive so yesterday I did 3 circuits of No More Trouble Zones just to sort of join in.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 08/09/2011 21:13

Day 3. Tick.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/09/2011 21:20

My calves are really stiff again tonight, the rest of me isn't too bad, probably means I haven't been squatting low enough etc.

Orangina - hi, how many times have you tried it before?

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 08/09/2011 21:53

For me it's the bit directly above my knees. Coming down stairs in the morning is bloody painful!!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/09/2011 22:47

Stairs , ohh yes, I am hobbling up and down like an old lady.

day 4 - done

Nagoo · 09/09/2011 08:14

Hi!

I need to be on a shred thread :)

I used to be very good, did it twice round and 'graduated' to BFBM, but got lazy over the summer :(

So I started day 1 yesterday, and do solemnly swear that I will shred in the baby's naptime...

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 09/09/2011 10:55

Hi Nagoo, impressed that you have managed the whole thing twice! Well done. Most of us here are novices this week, as we were on another thread and decided to try this once the DCs were back at school.

Managed Day 4 today, and have just got back from my run (with a 2 hour gap in between I should add). It doesn't seem to be getting any easier! Those jumping jacks and the final set of abs kill me. It is going to be hard to motivate myself to get up early and do it over the weekend too, hmm.

I have found a nice thing to do is before I start to get a big glass of water with ice and lemon (keep slices in a tray in the freezer) and stick it on the mantelpiece to glug down the minute I have finished, so I don't have to walk all the way to the kitchen, I can see it waiting for me right there, lovely. I kick my trainers off to do the stretches at the end, then I can grab the water and collapse on to the sofa all in one move.

LinzerTorte · 09/09/2011 11:45

Hi Nagoo, you sound like a Shred expert already. Grin So are Levels 2 and 3 much harder than Level 1?

Well done WhoKnows, I haven't shredded for two days thanks to a stomach bug but hope to get back into it by next week at the latest - hopefully at the weekend if I get my energy back. I really struggle with the abs too, and that reverse crunch or whatever it's called is just impossible.

On Days 1 and 2, DD1 thoughtfully brought me a big glass of water towards the end so I didn't have to make the effort to go to the kitchen afterwards, but I'll have to better organised next week if I'm going to shred in the mornings when she's at school!

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 09/09/2011 12:33

Linzer, hope you feel better soon. Hello nagoo - we'll be looking to you for advice as we go on. Well done WhoKnows.

Just finished day 5. I think it's becoming bearable, although the back of my left arm still hurts.

My weights arrived yesterday. I have a pretty pair of pink 2lb-ers, but I hadn't realised that I had only ordered one 3lb-er Grin Blush.

DH returned from the UK last night. Not that he needed any encouragement, but he was under strict orders to stay in bed this morning while I shredded. I have also challenged him to have a go while I'm at work today Smile.

I AM going to run this weekend.

melodyangel · 09/09/2011 12:53

Glass of water - check

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 09/09/2011 13:15

Humph - trousers are not yet any less snug Grin. Am I expecting too much? Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/09/2011 14:14

melody - I hope you shut the blinds!!

GettinTrimmer · 09/09/2011 14:22

Hi all

I've just done day 6 of the shred Smile No running though, will go on Sunday...well that's the plan!

shredded I agree it's becoming more bearable.

Linzer last time I did the shred I got up to level 2, parts of it I found much harder other parts not so bad

melodyangel · 09/09/2011 14:27

Oh my good lord!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/09/2011 14:36

at poor Melody! Day 4 for me - just about to do it.

melodyangel · 09/09/2011 14:45

Good luck Pistey! How is it four days in?

Off to pick up DS2. I'm going to look a right sight at the school gates.
