Shred for Couchto5Kers and anybody else

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/09/2011 20:51

This thread is a spin off from the CouchTo5k 2011 Pt 3, where some of us decided that as well as doing the C25K we would try the Shred (preferably wearing purple nail varnish)

All Shredders are welcome, not just those from the C25k thread (and not just those with purple nails).

Linzer - that is so mean! Plan your revenge.

LinzerTorte · 18/09/2011 21:06

I have my thinking cap on, Pistey. He's swanning off to Turkey for three days tomorrow (claiming it is work-related, but I suspect it's just to escape the bad weather that has been forecast), so I have time to plan something sufficiently evil. Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/09/2011 23:04

Good. [evilgrin]

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 19/09/2011 00:02

And I thought that Linzer was such a nice girl. Tsk!

Huff puff, day 4 of level 2 done. I've spent most of the day at my desk crafting my final MBA assignment. I'm feeling quite strange TBH, it's been 4 years since I started and it will be weird not to be doing it any more. I've been looking back through some of my early work and reminding myself of how much I've learnt (and forgotten!). We also went out for a long walk in the Park for some fresh air. Time for Wine now!

LinzerTorte · 19/09/2011 07:38

Oh, I'm lovely really shredded - just as long as you don't laugh at my attempt to shred. Grin Actually, DH did say afterwards that he was quite impressed at how I was managing to keep up (I didn't tell him that he should have seen me on Day 1); I don't think he can quite believe that I'm still running either. He's been very supportive in a surprised sort of way. Grin

Good luck with your final assignment; just think of all that Wine you can indulge in once it's finished. Smile

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 19/09/2011 12:34

Grin linzer. DH told me yesterday that when I'm not in the room with him he's been picking up my weights and having a little go with them Grin. He went on to say that he puts them both in one hand Shock. He's still talking about a half marathon....

melodyangel · 19/09/2011 12:36

What a lot of cheeky DH's!

LinzerTorte · 19/09/2011 12:51

Grin at your DH boasting about two weights in one hand, shredded. Mine was crowing about having carried 200 kg of cement up to our house (set back from the road by about 30 m) at the weekend and how it put me to shame with my 0.5 kg. I had to point out that a) my weights actually weigh 1 kg, and b) I have two of them, so it's actually 2 kg! (He also didn't carry the 200 kg all at once, I hasten to add).

Oh, and DH also claimed he could run a kilometre in 4 minutes. This turned out to be when he was at school. (But he claims that he would still be able to do so if he started training.)

I was going to write that I bet he couldn't do the Shred, but have just remembered him demonstrating to the DC at the weekend what "proper" press-ups look like. Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/09/2011 13:52

Day 11 (1st Day of Level 2) - tick.

OP posts:
LinzerTorte · 19/09/2011 17:49

Day 10 done. The DC all started off doing it with me, but they'd all phoned it in by the end of the first circuit.

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 19/09/2011 23:28

Pah, no husband could do the shred as well as we can

Well done WhoKnows - how did you find level 2? And Linzer, are you moving on up tomorrow?

LinzerTorte · 20/09/2011 07:26

Yes, that's the plan shredded, although I'm slightly worried about the sound of these plank things!

Probably won't have time until this evening, though, as I need to take DS to speech therapy plus plan and teach an English lesson this morning, and DS has a friend over this afternoon. Still, at least DH won't be around to watch!

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 20/09/2011 12:27

Good luck Linzer. I took me until day 5 to be able to do most of the moves, especially the ones when you need to do (Shock) two things at once Grin.

melodyangel · 20/09/2011 13:11

Day six - tick

It's getting harder, why is it getting harder? I'm crushed today!

If I ever utter the words " I could always use a good chest rise in my life " please shoot me!

LinzerTorte · 20/09/2011 13:24

Two things at once, shredded? Shock That brings back horrible memories of zumba.

melody I think the repetitiveness of all that Jillianspeak is one reason why it seems to get harder; there's only so much you can take. And that exchange between her and Nadalee at the beginning ("right? right! sure! sure!) where both seem determined to have the last word just makes me want to shout "Enough already!"

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/09/2011 14:51

Makes me want so say F!@ off! Linzer*, I am not as polite as you!

I found Level 2 easier in some ways than Level 1. For me the first rotation in Level 1 was the hardest, so once that was out of the way I knew I was going to be OK. However Level 2 seems to be the other way round, I though it was OK till I got to the 3rd rotation, I had even been managing some Nadalee bits. The third rotation I gave up one one of the plank bits altogether and sat on the floor instead. Must try harder!

Also (another one here who struggles with two things at the same time), there is one set of lunges where you alternate forward and backward lunges whilst still doing the same arm movement, not only do I not really have the floor space for this one, I do not have the coordination either.

I'm just struggling with fitting it and the running in TBH, not to mention all the extra showers, laundry. My hair always looks a mess because it has been pulled half straight by being in a ponytail and it always feels greasy (I normally don't wash it every day). I got all the way through L1 by getting up 45 mins early and doing it, but I hate getting up early so much that I do not want to carry on doing it then. Although DS was enjoying getting up with me and watching and wants to see Level 2 in action. So, I need to think hard about all this!

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/09/2011 15:07

It is a lot to do isn't it?!

I also get in a pickle with the front and back lunges, it took me ages to work them out!

I'm on Day 3 Level 2 a bit later...

LinzerTorte · 20/09/2011 19:45

Level 2 Day 1 done. It was definitely hard work, but I did have a nice surprise when I discovered that I was actually on the last circuit and not on the second (had just been thinking that it was really dragging). I also had to fall back on Aneeda's modified versions more often than not.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/09/2011 19:56

Here I go.....

RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/09/2011 23:46

Well I crunched my obliques with my two best girls.
Day 4 Stage 2 tomorrow.
Thing I find hardest on stage 2? Those sort of plank in and out jumps near the end.

But I'm not stiff afterwards anymore i realise which is a big step forward!

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 21/09/2011 01:21

Well done pistey!

I can't do the forward and backwards lunges, or the v thingies at the end. I went back to my 2lbers this morning and it was still really hard

I'm slowly getting there with the walkout press ups though, and as I said on the other thread just now, I think the cardio has really helped with my running fitness, although that could just be the PRSP talking Grin

LinzerTorte · 21/09/2011 08:25

I think it would be quicker to list the things I can do, rather than those I can't! I can do the walking out bit of the walkout press-ups, but not the press-up itself. I can't imagine using anything heavier than my 1 kg weights for any of the exercises either, so I'm quite glad my 2 kg weights haven't arrived yet (as purple as they may be).

shredded I keep thinking that there's no way I could have managed the cardio bits if I hadn't started running, so it's the other way round with me! (At least, that's what I thought when I was on Level 1, when the cardio often came as a welcome relief; it's a bit more of a struggle with Level 2.) I'm sure the Shred has helped with my running too though, as I definitely feel like I have more stamina now.

LinzerTorte · 21/09/2011 08:27

Oh, and well done on Day 4 Pistey! I was definitely stiff this morning. I couldn't do those in and out things either, and had to start following Anita after a few seconds.

VivaLeBeaver · 21/09/2011 08:30

I find the oblique twists the hardest. I always end up jumping with my feet and hands in the same direction when they're meant to be opposite. So even though it's still good cardio I don't think I'm getting the same benefit to my abs. Ah well.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 21/09/2011 09:57

I'm finding the cardio easier in the 2nd level. Have dropped back to 1 kg weights throughout. My abs definitely feel firmer. But the forward and backward lunge and the last lot of planks are SO HARD.
