Shred for Couchto5Kers and anybody else

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/09/2011 20:51

This thread is a spin off from the CouchTo5k 2011 Pt 3, where some of us decided that as well as doing the C25K we would try the Shred (preferably wearing purple nail varnish)

All Shredders are welcome, not just those from the C25k thread (and not just those with purple nails).

I vote we let the Lovely Sweaty go first. Then we'll know how much it hurts.

Go Sweaty! We're all behind you.

Nagoo · 15/09/2011 22:18

'Chair squats with a V fly'

she hates you.

she hates you and wants you to suffer.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 15/09/2011 23:59

Passes Nagoo the gin.... Grin
that will be me tomorrow if Sweaty survives

Well I'm sitting here in casualty. Have been for ages. DD has cut her ankle badly. She is fine, lurching from being fraught to being fascinated that you can see her tendon. It needs stitches they say. It's disgusting but not bleeding as much as I would have thought. She caught it on the bottom of a metal gate as she closed it and didn't realise what damage she'd done. I think she just thought she'd banged it v hard. She will be in despair when she realises the impact this will have on the rowing training that is the centre of her world. We are sitting here in minors and she looks like a giant surrounded by toddlers!!

at this rate I'll be too tired to Shred tomorrow.

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 16/09/2011 00:27

I did it this morning (and posted about my lack of bananas!)...

...I got very hot and out of breath...

...but I Blush was phoning it in a bit through lack of banana, unco-ordination and not being able to do the moves. Walk out press ups FFS! Skater twists or some such nonsense! And as for the last abs...forget it!

12 hours later and I feel as though I have exercised but I'm not in agony Grin. I obviously need to try harder Grin

WhoKnows and pistey, hope both your DCs are better and sewn up soon.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 16/09/2011 00:34

Sorry Sweaty Blush
still waiting for the doctor here.
there I'd a window on stitching or I'd be tempted to go home and do this tomorrow.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 16/09/2011 00:35

Is

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 16/09/2011 04:44

Oh no pistey, hope you are home by now.

A similar thing happened to DS2 a few years ago. He fell and tore the inside of his ear by catching it on the corner of a metal bench. We took him to A&E and the facio-max guy there said it needed a stitch. They tried to get a local anaesthetic in, but DC2 kept flinching and wouldn't stay still enough. Then they gave him gas and air, but that didn't relax him enough, so they sent us home and told us they'd do it under a general the next day. Of course by the time they got round to seeing him the following day the surgeon said it was already starting to heal, there was no point stitching, and the risks of the GA were more than the damage to the ear.

Fingers crossed DD is sorted by now!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 16/09/2011 06:40

She was stitched then we got home just before 3. Up again now and glad it's Friday! Am so tired. Zzzzzzzzzzzzp

RatherBeOnThePiste · 16/09/2011 06:43

And major OW for your son!! Sweaty. That's dreadful. That must have really hurt. Sad

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/09/2011 08:16

Ouch! Hope she recovers quickly. I banged the back of my ankle doing exactly the same thing at the end of July, didn't actually break the skin but boy did it hurt. It still feels slightly sore whenever I put my running shoes on.

Day 11 - phoning it in, have been up all night throwing up.

rookiemater · 16/09/2011 09:15

Hope you feel better soon whoknows, I'm sure even Jillian would give you a free pass if she knew you had been sick all the night before - well maybe, who knows she seems quite hard.

I had my heart rate monitor on yesterday for Level 1 and burnt up 100 calories in the 20 mins. I can burn about 200 in 20 mins of running, but I'm guessing that the weight lifting will turn fat to muscle so its ok. I don't think there is enough cardio, plus I'm mithering over doing a 10k on 2nd Oct so I'm sticking to a combo of shredding plus running, but not managing to do the full work out on the days I run - either just put it on and do the weights and abs, or do what I can remember ( not as hard or as long as I'm meant to)

LinzerTorte · 16/09/2011 09:21

Gosh, we - and our DC - seem to be an accident-prone lot at the moment! To add to the tales of woe, DS ran into my finger (!) when I was picking him up from kindergarten yesterday and my fingernail got him just a few mm below the eye... he was bleeding everywhere and I'm hoping that it's not as bad as it looks; I just stuck a plaster over it and hoped for the best! He's quite proud of the plaster, although it can't be very comfortable right below his eye and it still looks very bloody underneath.

Hope your DD is OK today and that you're coping with the sleep deprivation Pistey and that you're feeling better soon WhoKnows.

melodyangel · 16/09/2011 11:31

Get better soon Whoknows and Pistey's DD.

No shred here today unless DS1 goes out but I'm off to the allotment so should get a good work out up there.

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 16/09/2011 12:39

WhoKnows - hope you have taken yourself off to bed for the day

Pistey and Linzer, hope DD and DS heal up quickly

Rookiemater - RESPECT for all your efforts

Melody - enjoy the fresh air

Have a good day all. I just did day 2 of level 2. Slept badly and forgot to buy bananas, so phoned a bit of it on. Plank-jacks FFS!

Nagoo · 16/09/2011 16:58

Shock at the tendon thing.

I am :) at the ability to shred being dictated by the availability of bananas :)

I haven't been able to shred today. My DCs are tag teaming me. Baby refusing to nap to my schedule. I can tell I need to do it as I am a mardy cow. I will try when they are in bed.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 16/09/2011 20:47

No phoning it in Sweaty!!
Well ahem. I did. Missed Day 1 Stage 2 today but will be back on the case tomorrow with my friends Fierce Jillian, smug Bitch Na-A-Lee and Even Worse Smug Bitch with the Weird Abs Anita Buddy.

LinzerTorte · 16/09/2011 21:08

That Anita has a weird body shape, doesn't she? And as for Nadalee's smug smile when Jillian says that we may not be as flexible as her "girls"... Oh, and I don't like the sound of plank jacks so am not thinking about Level 2 yet!

Day 7 done.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/09/2011 21:28

Feeling a bit better now, so the plan is nothing tomorrow, Level 1 on Sunday and Level 2 on Monday.

LinzerTorte · 17/09/2011 13:43

Day 8 done, albeit with a few interruptions.

Was horrified to see DS, DD1 and two of the neighbours' DC suddenly appear at the patio doors gawping at me. Shooing them away didn't work so I resorted to locking the doors and closing the blinds. Blush

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 17/09/2011 16:33

at Linzer Grin

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 17/09/2011 17:27

Oh.My.God Blush

DH and I were talking about shredding and I had a moan about plank jacks.

Me: Have you ever heard of them?
DH: Not until you started to demonstrate them in the restaurant last night

Them I remembered...Blush

It wasn't actually that bad, I didn't get down on the floor...

I was just trying to explain to my friend what they were. As she didn't leave work until 10pm it was almost 11 by the time we ate, and the two glasses of wine I'd had must have gone to my head Blush. I hadn't had a drink all week, which must have been my downfall

Off to try to shred away my blushes.

JelliBelli · 17/09/2011 18:43

Been a bit flakey with the Shred (and running Blush) this week but I am back with the programme now. Honest! will do day 5ish L 1 later, or maybe in a moment - I am nursing a possible dehydration headache right now.

Oddly DS was in A&E on Wednesday - how strange is that. Having been not watching a rugby match he was run over by play as it went over the touchline and has split his lip. That's ok and will heal alright. But then, during his match he was squished in the scrum and needed a hospital trip to check out his knee after it was over extended! He'll be fine it just needs rest. Let's hope that that is the end of the 'Team Purple' DCs trips to casualty though Shock.

Hope all the DCs are recovering well and big Grin at Sweaty in the restaurant!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/09/2011 12:46

at Sweaty in the restaurant!!

Level 2, Day 1 here!

O.M.G

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/09/2011 12:48

Yes - and Jelli - I agree no more A&E for any Team Purple (inc offspring!)
My DD overextended her knee once and it really hurts - the resting bit can take longer than they anticipate too. Hope he heals quickly!

LinzerTorte · 18/09/2011 19:10

Day 9 done, this time with DH as spectator. He kept wandering in and out with a glass of wine, claiming that it was "better than television". Hmm
