Shred for Couchto5Kers and anybody else

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/09/2011 20:51

This thread is a spin off from the CouchTo5k 2011 Pt 3, where some of us decided that as well as doing the C25K we would try the Shred (preferably wearing purple nail varnish)

All Shredders are welcome, not just those from the C25k thread (and not just those with purple nails).

Day 6 - done.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 11/09/2011 12:51

Really doesn't help when the DCs start crawling under your legs when you are doing the lunges!

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 11/09/2011 20:13

me too WhoKnows - level 6 = tick

RatherBeOnThePiste · 11/09/2011 20:14

technically that should say Day 6

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 11/09/2011 21:24

Pistey - had me going then!

Right, have run tonight, now I have put out my next set of exercise clothes alongside my regular clothes for the morning (I do Flylady too, Mumsnet really has taken over my life).

I simply cannot finish the first cardio set. The one with the jumping jacks and the pretend skipping. My legs just turn to jelly and my lungs threaten to explode. The rest isn't too bad, although I probably ought to be pushing lower with the lunges etc.

I did day 7 today. Getting scarily close to level 2 Shock.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/09/2011 07:04

7 for me later. In a way I'll be glad to do something different. I'm fine with the cardio bit, and I love anything that let's me lie on the floor. But the ones I find hard are the lunges, ESP that one where you go side to side, lifting the weights in front of your eyes. Tis a killer for me and I wish I was shorter so my eyes were lower!!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/09/2011 07:15

Day 7 - tick.

OP posts:
Nagoo · 12/09/2011 08:13

day 4 aborted due to 3 hours sleep an hangover

will attempt today's session this afternoon when boy is , finally, at school!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/09/2011 09:08

That one makes my arms shaky Pistey. I'm worried that if I watch too much more of this I might start calling people "buddy". Still couldn't finish the first cardio set though! I really ought to get that sorted before I move onto Level 2.

I find the last set of abs hard too, but its the front of my thighs that are the problem, not the abs themselves. Think there's a theme here, which is that my legs are too heavy!

OP posts:
GettinTrimmer · 12/09/2011 10:08

Day 7 - tick too, and using heavier weights!! I am now on the purpley pink ones

Pistey & WhoKnows - I know the ones you mean, they are hard, after the chest buoys called anterior raises.

I cannot do the shred on Thursday/Friday/early next week as we have a plasterer in. Oh sod it, maybe I can, just wear a big t-shirt, or get up earlier and do it Hmm

LinzerTorte · 12/09/2011 10:14

Hmm, now wondering whether I should buy myself some new weights (despite the fact that I haven't even done Day 3 yet). Most of the time I wish I had lighter ones, but I think I could cope with heavier ones for the exercises where you're lying down and bring the weights together. But should I go for 1.5 kg or 2 kg? It all depends on the colour.

LinzerTorte · 12/09/2011 10:27

Right, it looks like it will have to be 2.0 kg weights in either dark blue (?12.62) or purple (?16). But if I can get my order up to ?20, I could have the purple ones with free postage, at ?13, so there's no contest. But what else do I need from Amazon? (I'd already placed two other orders this morning, before I realised - aargh!)

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/09/2011 11:47

i've ordered a set of weights from Amazon, hopefully they will come in time for Weds. I have given up on the ones DH bought, they are horrible to hold, haven't got round to getting tennis racket grip. My 1kg ones are definitely too light for the bicep curls and chest sequence and the one we ou squat and pull them backwards. I think I will probably stay on Level 1 till I have established the hewvier weights.

Gah, day 8 today, and despite shredding every day, running yesterday and declining almost all the wine offered to me for the last week my trousers are no less snug Angry.

Linzer you can never have too much nail polish Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/09/2011 16:07

Shredded - is it because you have built up so much muscle shredding and running and now look like this?

PS Just jesting... I have met Shredded and she is gorgeous and slim and looks nothing like that Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/09/2011 16:08

Trim - get the big T shirt and brazen it out. Be bold.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/09/2011 16:09

and I find the ones where you roll up on the floor make my bony spiny bits hurt

LinzerTorte · 12/09/2011 16:21

Day 3 done - finally; I feel very behind the rest of you.

I've given up hope of ever being able to do those last abs exercises in circuit 1, where you're supposed to lift your lower back off the floor - I try, but end up collapsing on the floor in a heap.

shredded Too true. Grin I shall have a browse!

JelliBelli · 12/09/2011 19:13

Gosh, you've all been busy, but I hope none of you are suffering with bad wind tonight Wink.

I managed to do D3 last night but only just before bed time! Anyway, tis done now. D4 for me later, will listen to The Archers first though.

Linzer I feel behind the gang too as if I am at the back and I am lagging behind panting "wait for me, i've only got little legs"! If you haven't finished your Amazon you could always get "6 Week 6 Pack" or one of her others Grin.

Rather I don't have an exercise mat but find some of the abs stuff painful on my boney bits of back too, so I use a folded up towel to make it more comfy. Does your picture lady really look in the mirror and think she looks fantastic? My my!

Trimmer sounds like you might have an early start on Thursday then!! Go on! You know you don't want to let all your hard work go to waste. Get up early! (she says having overslept this morning and made herself 10 minutes late for work Shock eek!)

Most importantly I have bought new purple nail varnish to be put on later tonight .

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/09/2011 19:47

I'm doing it on a thick rug on top of carpet, but my knees are starting to object to my Anita style press-ups (can't manage Natalie ones). Might have to dig out my old yoga mat as well.

I also need a cushion for my head because my ponytail makes my head wobble about when I am doing the chest raises.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/09/2011 21:10

Day 7, ticketty tick

actually I don't know why you lot are making such a fuss about shredding. It's so easy.

JelliBelli · 12/09/2011 23:18

Oh God! DH came home early so we went down th epub for dinner and I forgot to Shred as he was being all spontaneous and stuff.

And I haven't put my new nail varnish on either.

I am a FAILURE today (what with my oversleeping and all) Sad

melodyangel · 13/09/2011 00:14

How do you all manage to do the shred every day? I was totalled after the first day! Had to put up with DH taking the mick all weekend - I shall have my revenge.

DS1 is finally back to college tomorrow so day two here I come. Those lunges can go to hell though.

I've been using a couple of playmats to work out on. Do you all wear trainers or bare foot?

Nagoo · 13/09/2011 06:58

I bought trainers and a mat after the first week. My knees thanked me. I was an alien in the sports shop though Grin I haven't owned trainers for 15 years....

I did day 5 yesterday, in a cheap version of the 'rouge noir' varnish that was a hangover from the fancy dress party I was at on Sat: rocking the Uma Thurman :)
