Shred for Couchto5Kers and anybody else

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/09/2011 20:51

This thread is a spin off from the CouchTo5k 2011 Pt 3, where some of us decided that as well as doing the C25K we would try the Shred (preferably wearing purple nail varnish)

All Shredders are welcome, not just those from the C25k thread (and not just those with purple nails).

My above my knees bit is bloody stiff!! Coming downstairs is my problem!!

JelliBelli · 09/09/2011 18:50

My DVD arrived today while I was at work. I thought I had arranged to send it TO work and when it didn't come today was glad as I had only to run on Sunday. BUT!! I am a bit dim and have sent it home and here it was waiting for my, smiling through the celophane. So I guess I need to get of MN and go and do it don't i?

I found it really uncomfy walking down the stairs to at the beginning. i think it wore off by day 5......

Nagoo · 09/09/2011 18:59

I did it today again :)

I need to post that so I feel like someone will notice if I stop.

I have launched straight in with level 3. I have to 'Anita it' at points due to lack of upper body strength, I am like a T Rex Grin

I am going to do whichever level I am in the mood for on a particular day, as I get bored of the spiel if I hear the same every day. I sometimes put the radio on at the same time, but then you have to keep checking if you are doing the right thing at the right time!

Even on day 2 I am feeling it. I remember wincing as I walked up stairs in the first week.

You do get much fitter very fast if you keep it up :)

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 09/09/2011 19:18

Well done Nagoo. Are the levels 2 and 3 significantly harder, or just different? I'm getting bored of the spiel a bit already, will know it off by heart soon, I started daydreaming during the one of the lying down bits today, glanced at the telly and realised they'd all moved on.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/09/2011 19:41

I often want to punch Anita

Nagoo · 09/09/2011 19:45

I hate level 2. Level 3 is like a special present after level 2.

Chair squats with a V fly. Be warned. Wink

All you have to think about is that it works. It has strengthened my core and made me a ton fitter than I was, so it seemed stupid to stop.

I'll tell you what, I can tuck my tops into my jeans now.... :)

piste It's because she doesn't have to try. You'll notice one day the bit where Natalie is Skiving off and then you'll want to punch her instead Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 09/09/2011 20:34

Core strength is mainly what I'm after from this, I must remember that it will all be worth it! I can cope better knowing it's only 20 mins versus the usual longer Davina type DVDs. I am tempted to put a countdown table on the shelf next to the telly tomorrow.

Nagoo · 09/09/2011 21:25

here on lazy days I do the belly section of this, only 10 mins, and no sweating :)

JelliBelli · 09/09/2011 21:35

I'm Shredded!

It was easier than first time round but my quads and arms are going to ache tomorrow, that's for sure! The 20 minutes did seem to go quite quickly after that running though! Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 09/09/2011 21:36

Table? I meant timer.

Day 5 - done, with two children joining in the jumping jacks and then setting up a board game on the rug next to me and playing it while I wave my arms over their heads. And helpfully saying "Mum, you're meant to have your eyes open".

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/09/2011 11:30

Day 5 of the Shred done.

Nagoo · 10/09/2011 11:43

Day 3 :)

JelliBelli · 10/09/2011 11:59

Day 2 completed for me.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/09/2011 20:58

What weight are you all using? I'm starting to think I need different weights for different parts of it, that part where you squat and lift them above your head is much harder on my arms than the bit where you lie on your back and put your arms out to the side and then lift them over your chest for example. But I guess the workout is designed for using the same weights throughout.

DH has gone out so I'm going to shred NOW.

WhoKnows - I started off with tins of beans, but am now using very fetching pink 2lb weights from Amazon.com.

Nagoo - RESPECT to you going in at level 3

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/09/2011 21:57

I did day 5 today and I am now using the 2K PURPLE ones for the thing where you lie on the floor and lift them above your chest and then down to the sides, I am always a bit worried I will drop them and knock my teeth out!

I then use the 1.5 weights which are PINK for the other bits.

Sweaty - hope you have done it by now or I shall come back to NY and kick your butt hopes sweaty HASN"T done it

And also finish your essay!

JelliBelli · 10/09/2011 21:59

Whoknows I agree with you about needing different weights. so now I have a nifty collection of weights and use the heaviest I can whilst still maintaining good form throughout the exercise. It doesn't take long to learn which weights you need for which exercise and it only take 1 second to swap.

I'm hoping to run and shred tomorrow but I'll have to run in the morning or I'll never feel up to it if I've shredded beforehand.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/09/2011 22:14

Mine are only 1kg, definitely need some more. I have a little problem in that years ago DH bought me a set of dumbbells which are adjustable from 1 to 5 kg, which I have never liked as they are entirely metal and I prefer a soft grip, my hands get sweaty, my 1kg ones are even older and nice soft grip. So I'd like to ditch these metal ones and get more soft ones, but DH would be upset, he said tonight that they had been quite expensive. Poor DH, I am not an easy person to buy presents for, I remember thinking when I unwrapped them all those years ago what on earth was he thinkinv when he bought those? Maybe I should just get some tennis racket grip and put it on them.

Tee hee pistey, I'm done. And I thought my 2lb weights were a bit too easy for one of the exercises. So it looks like I'll have to order the 3lb's twin that I didn't get the other day Grin

Jelli - I hope to run and shred too tomorrow.

I don't know if it's a side-effect of the exercise, or because I was on my own mot of the week, but I've drunk lot less Wine this week than usual. I may try to keep that up too [sceptical]

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 10/09/2011 22:25

I meant Hmm of course. Took me a while to work out what I'd done wrong Grin!

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 10/09/2011 22:26

WhoKnows, that sounds a good idea.

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 10/09/2011 22:26

yes pistey, I am going to shower and swot Smile

RatherBeOnThePiste · 11/09/2011 00:16

If you come sneaking back on Sweaty, I say to you - GO BACK AND GET ON WITH YOUR WORK

Hello to anyone else

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 11/09/2011 00:31

It's Saturday night here now Grin
