I need a Shred buddy

Brahbrah · 20/03/2011 13:49

I had a Shred buddy but she knackered her knees. It turns out I have no self-motivation at all as I haven't done it once since she stopped.

Anyone looking at a neglected copy of the 30 Day Shred and want to buddy up? We had managed to get to day 10 and had just moved up to level 2 when we stopped, but I'm happy to start again at day 1.

Not much required, just a daily check in to say, 'yep, done it for today, how about you?'

Whaddya say?

Well, I've done it, but it was hard. I've no idea how many times I've done level 2 now, but it was like going back to the beginning again. Sheesh. Think I'll try and keep it going daily for another 4 days then try level 3 or I'll never finish the bloomin' thing.

The bicycle crunches killed me the first few times I did it too, but you soon get stronger. I now do them in preference to the last abs section on level 2 cos every time I try to do the actual exercise something twangs in my groin area, which can't be good.

I think the bicycle crunches are very hard on any women that has given birth in the preceding few years, works just the right muscles!
Taken me nearly 3 months of going to the gym to be able to stand them without yowling in agonyBlushThe first few weeks I simple could not do them for as long as everyone else, but it does get better!!

Weights wise I bought some 1kg handweights from Tesco for £6.50 (I needed for my bodypump class anyway) and they are really good. I have got some 1.5kg reebok dumbells that I will try as it gets easier, had them for ages, from Argos I think.

Time-wise I do it in the evening, about 1hr 30mins after eating as any sooner and I get a stitch. I am then close enough to bedtime to have a quick shower almost straight after. I think some on here are doing it early morning, which may work at the weekend for me but not in the week.

Well done on the dress fitting Brahbrah! I did wear a skirt on saturday that had its last outing pre-DC so its all good progress I suppose.

Going to try and do it about 9.15pm again tonight (will be shred number 5 I think?lost count as not doing it everyday!) as I have some essay work for my masters to do first.......Yawn!

MaureenMLove · 26/04/2011 21:09

Just so as you all know, I am in a ridiculously bad mood, I really can't be flippin arsed, but I'm doing it - OK!!!

Nobody speak to me and ask me why I'm in a bad mood, I just am and I'm a woman, so I'm allowed.

I'm doing my shred. So there!

MaureenMLove · 26/04/2011 21:10

And when I'm done, I'll see you outside for a fag Sal! Grin

Brianstorm · 26/04/2011 21:32

Just wanting to join this thread as somebody who bought The Shred when they were still pregnant and still haven't started it when said baby is now a 4 month old [cblush]. Am drinking wine now and committing online to talking about beginning tomorrow night for day 1 now I've read about all your progress Wink. Please motivate me!

MaureenMLove · 26/04/2011 21:42

Please see my post Fri 22-Apr-11 20:40:07! That is our new motivation!

Please also ignore the rest of this post!

I'm bloody knackered, that damn near killed me and I don't want to ever do it again. I am a complete failure and can't be arsed! Grin

Thanks Maureen - I think this is exactly the thread for me based on Supersalstrawberry's 'I haven't managed to shred today as I'm currently busy shovelling minstrels into my face maybe tomorrow.' Grin Will ignore your previous 2 posts in the hope that I won't feel like that tomorrow about the whole thing. Haven't done any exercise in a year so suitably scared.

Oh do wind your neck in woman! Wink I've done it haven't I? Honestly, I'm in such a bad mood!

I did feel slightly better when I'd done it though. I'm ready to go again tomorrow. It's the getting back on. I haven't done it for the whole of the Easter holidays (partly because of suspected broke toe though)

So, I think the thing to remember is, don't get disheartened and dispondant if you miss a day or don't feel like. Just get right back on it.

BadPoet · 27/04/2011 09:25

Thanks for the welcomes Smile. I've done it! Just finished day 1, level 1. Fairly easy today as I work from home - dh went off with the kids to school and I did it, I'd just had some orange juice when I got up and that's all. However I am now going to shower etc and provided I make it down the stairs I'll be starting work later than usual, however I'll be super productive & energised won't I.

It was more than 20m Shock. is that because I did the instruction one?

PureNewWool The DVD was in the DVD case. Grin

BrianStorm - please start tonight! We'll be day 1-ers together! I won't always be doing it in the morning.

BadPoet · 27/04/2011 09:25

Oops, when I said fairly easy I meant the logistics. The workout I found HARD but doable.

PureNewWoolWithPerfectStitches · 27/04/2011 12:16

OH! I am in SO MUCH PAIN (first time yesterday). I'm not sure I can do it today. Even walking hurts [cblush], going downstairs is ridiculously hard. Shall I wait a day before I do the next one? OUCH [cblush][cgrin][cblush]

Brianstorm · 27/04/2011 16:31

Don't have time to write very much as about to have a family BBQ but just wanted to let you know I just did Day 1 - ouch!!! Will report back later but BadPoet you've got a buddy Grin

KeepCalmAndCarryOnMNing · 27/04/2011 19:09

PureNewWool - don't leave it a day - one day becomes two...

I'm still injured so a bit [cenvy] that I can't get back onto it. Just found out a friend lost 3 stone on WW and here I am taking the shape of the various easter eggs that I've eaten. Am really really hoping that my back is better by next week as I'm off work then so will have the time during the day to get into it properly.

In the meantime, I'll just cheerlead you lot - now, no excuses, get Shredding!!!

Excellent BrianStorm, we can cheer each other on. And you too PureNewWool, if you didn't manage today then we can all do day 2 tomorrow. I'm not working and have ds at home in the morning, so he's just going to have to watch or join in. Will it traumatise him to witness me turning beet red and swearing sweating?

I found the abs the hardest. But tomorrow I think I'll cope better knowing how long each section goes on.

If I say TOMORROW enough times will it actually happen?

Brianstorm · 28/04/2011 09:56

Woke up aching this morning, and thought along the lines of PureNewWool around maybe skipping a day, but to be honest, my competitive side got into stride, and I didn't want to end up behind BadPoet Wink so I've just finished Day 2. This is honestly the first exercise I've done in a year (got pregnant round about this time last year and was studying for exams at the same time so no chance of exercise) and I am really proud of myself. Have a hen night in a month's time where we're meant to be using a hot tub - aaggh! - so that is my biggest motivation.

Report back on how you're getting on now that it's TOMORROW.

And what about the rest of my new buddies - SuperSal, BrahBrah, Maureen, Keep Calm, Pat and PureNewWool? Don't let me down now I've finally started exercising again! Although starting to find my arms are getting sore typing Blush. Will check tomorrow again to see how you're all getting on after going to my Royal Wedding party complete with hat and Pimms finishing my Shred.

BadPoet · 28/04/2011 09:58

Done it! My thighs are in agony and the sideways lungy-things were very hard. But overall, I feel less nauseous & wobbly than yesterday. Is it possible to have more stamina after one session?

PureNewWool, BrianStorm - I'll be checking on you later!

Ds was v funny, joined in. Grin

BadPoet · 28/04/2011 10:00

haha, x post! Woohoo!

I already know I'll be missing Sunday. I'll be in a caravan. There isn't any way it can work is there? But tomorrow, Sat and Monday all fine.

PureNewWoolWithPerfectStitches · 28/04/2011 12:03

I didn't do it yesterday Blush It was just too painful!
TBH it still really hurts today so I'm not sure whether to try or not. I might have a go this evening

KeepCalmAndCarryOnMNing · 28/04/2011 19:52

Brainstorm - I'm still signed off exercise on account of my back injury. Hoping to get back on it next week though.

Brianstorm · 28/04/2011 20:31

Poor you KeepCalm - I mustn't have noticed that above in the thread. Are you getting out walking or doing something light even just to enjoy the glorious weather we're all having?

BadPoet - posted within seconds of each other!! Caravan would only work if you were to turn the TV round to the window and do it outside. The shame. Am also going to have to do the Shred tomorrow morning with both DDs watching/taking part so should be fun! It's something for them to look at - it probably counts as an activity, I'm nearly sure [cgrin]

PureNewWool - come on!! You have people now watching your progress. You are meant to keep on going when you are in pain as it does something scientific to your muscles. Promise!

BadPoet · 29/04/2011 08:49

Shredded, day 3! It was HARD today. I've decided I will NEVER EVER progress on to level 2. Level 1 forever. Now slumped in front of BBC1.

I can feel it everywhere but my thighs are still screaming.

KeepCalm - that must be hard, fingers crossed for next week Smile

PureNewWool - How are you getting on? Do you think you have an injury or is it muscle ache?

Brianstorm - I had considered that actually - well laptop at the window. I could have some privacy behind the caravan but my kids have dug holes everywhere. There's a park opposite, I might just have a jog around and do some star jumps jumping jacks. I know it's not the magic 321 but better than nothing!

PureNewWoolWithPerfectStitches · 29/04/2011 08:53

Just muscle ache (sheer lack of use!) but actually I've got a stomach bug now (started yesterday) so no shredding for me for a couple of days
I'm in bed with a cup of tea in front the wedding
