I need a Shred buddy

Brahbrah · 20/03/2011 13:49

I had a Shred buddy but she knackered her knees. It turns out I have no self-motivation at all as I haven't done it once since she stopped.

Anyone looking at a neglected copy of the 30 Day Shred and want to buddy up? We had managed to get to day 10 and had just moved up to level 2 when we stopped, but I'm happy to start again at day 1.

Not much required, just a daily check in to say, 'yep, done it for today, how about you?'

Whaddya say?

day 2 level 1 done, still upright and walking (albeit quite gently going up and down the stairs Wink). Target is to manage all the cardio all the way through without having to stop and take a break. I might be on level 1 for some time Grin.

ledkr · 17/05/2011 14:37

Thanks bad poet,I thought id give you all a laugh to help you on your way,i put on my gym gear, then the dvd,got started and the baby woke up!! I then sat and watched level one Grin i thought it didnt look too hard then noticed the extremely fit and toned girls were sweating and thought again.
Will defo modify the ab work altho i expect Gillian would burst my ear drums and send me for therapy if she knew that. Me and dh are going to do it later between the Beownies run-rock and roll.

L2 D2

Have you noticed how they crawl to their mats for the cool down at the end!

CheerfulYank · 18/05/2011 06:00

Can I join? I have the Shred and I loathe it but it does work...I need the motivation!

ledkr · 18/05/2011 07:08

cheerful.did you diet too

BadPoet · 18/05/2011 07:58

L2d8. Otherside you are up early! I have noticed them crawling but there's also this bit, between 1st circuit cardio & abs I think where they finish on the floor, stand UP and then get back down again! I'm wise to it now and just sort of flop over.

Welcome CheerfulYank!

Othersideofthechannel · 18/05/2011 08:33

I'm an hour ahead so early but not that early!!

BadPoet, I hadn't noticed, will adopt your technique I think.

I am not dieting as I am happy with my size but need to tone up.

Brianstorm · 18/05/2011 10:31

This thread is getting busy! Will be doing L2D10 later on today, but had a few minutes to update, and more importantly measure, and have lost some inches Grin

Upper Leg - 23" (from 23.5")
Waist - 36" (from 37.5")
Bust - still 39.5"
Upper arm - 12.5" (from 14")

so overall 3.5". Plus, I can actually feel myself getting more toned, and some of my clothes starting to get a bit more comfortable. Don't appear to have lost any weight - maybe 1 or 2 pounds at most.

Ledkr - this is without dieting at all. I had a real thing that I wanted to be able to eat as normal and just do exercise, and see how much of a difference it made. And I also had a look at your pictures and for someone on their 5th pregnancy, you look amazing! Hope you're getting on ok with the exercises, and really are taking it easy. I started this when my daughter was 17 weeks, but I didn't have a CS and I couldn't do the abs for the life of me plus I continually wee'ed a tiny little bit during the cardio bits

Now, will somebody else please measure, so I don't feel like the only twat MNer posting my vitals up Blush!

CheerfulYank, OtherSide, Midnight - really good to see you all - feel even more inspired when other people join the bandwagon!

BadPoet, Supersal, Pat - look how far we've come already, and all for only 20 minutes a day.

BTW, is anybody nearly at L3? I have to start tomorrow.

IShallWearMidnight · 18/05/2011 11:26

L1 D3 still can't manage all the cardio without stopping, but don't feel quite so close to death as I have done. Will do and measure post shower Brianstorm, so I have a starting point. Might not post the measurements though Blush.

Brianstorm · 18/05/2011 11:31

Midnight, I feel your pain - I wanted the shame to make me keep on going. I only managed to start feeling the cardio was manageable in the last few days, ie where I wasn't about to die before the end, so maybe 15 days? I think it's more important to feel that burn, and just keep on going in a weak sort of a way, rather than to stop completely. I always think to myself, this is a short pain barrier to break through, and soon we'll be moving on to another exercise where I'll feel other pain somewhere else Grin

orangina · 18/05/2011 11:50

Hello, please may I join in?

orangina · 18/05/2011 11:53

I ought the dvd after Christmas, did it a bit then, but have been rubbish about doing it all winter, and blame all my coursework and revision that distracted me from my growing lardy tum.

Exams over as of last week, and I did L1 D1 this morning. CANNOT do even a modified push up (I did those feeble efforts on my knees instead) and think I must have a dicky shoulder as I can't do that strength exercise at the end of L1 where you put your stright arms up in front of you w weights while doing a sort of sideways lunge thing.....

(Am dreading L2......)

orangina · 18/05/2011 11:53

(straight arm.....)

ledkr · 18/05/2011 12:03

D1 l1 ,thanks for all your support. I did it!Am really proud.Baby woke up so i paused, jogged to pram, put her in chair where she happily poohed whilst did circuit 2.
I managed most of it,less vigorous skipping and did drop weights by my side once or twice but i was using 2kg. Only slightly modified last set of abs and di normal sit ups.
There is a lesson here,im 43 not long had 5th baby and somehow all my previous training has remained to some degree.
Can i ask do you do 10 days on each level? And if when im in agony tomorrow do i just carry on? Thanks, what a nice lot you all are Grin

IShallWearMidnight · 18/05/2011 12:08

I'm planning on at least 10 days with Anita on L1, then following Natalie for up to another 10 days, as I suspect L2 might be too much for me (in my defence I've had surgery on both feet over the past year, so haven't been able to do even much walking since last August).

Orangina - I have no arm muscles whatsoever, and struggle with a bottle of water in each hand, never mind actual weights, nor can I do even Anita's press ups, os you're not the only one. Are you getting pain in your shoulder, or just not able to lift the weights? Pain probably needs a GP visit, otherwise lighter weights?

IShallWearMidnight · 18/05/2011 12:09

ledkr - am in awe - it's taken me 9 years post CS to do crunches and the like Grin.

Othersideofthechannel · 18/05/2011 12:31

She says to move up a level when you feel ready.
I moved up to Level 2 when I could do all of Level 1 except the press ups.
This was after 7 days, but I had regularly been doing a Davina work out weekly before that. I like Davina but I find it hard to find an hour to myself. 27 minutes is manageable.

orangina · 18/05/2011 12:38

IShallWearMidnight..... I think I do need to go to see a physio about my shoulders, have had problems with them in the past, and they crunch HORRIBLY when I circle them around in their sockets......

So glad I'm not the only one who cannot do a press up Grin....!

ledkr · 18/05/2011 13:38

thanks i shall wear i used to be a dancer, yrs and yrs ago so maybe that helps,i have also been doing Davina few times a week and before my spd set in was gyming 3x a week. Mind you,im all cocky now but will prob wake up in agony tomorrow. Shall i still do it? Ive seen Anita in another dvd fit cow haha.
Funny thing is re knees, the deep lunges/squats dont hurt my knees it would appear its small movements that set them off. The only pain for me is getting the baby to sleep long enough to work out and fit in a shower before school run.

PatTheHammer · 18/05/2011 14:43

Hey everyone, you are all doing so well!

I am only managing twice a week tops as I am doing so many other classes at the moment and I simply can't be bothered if I know I have already done some serious cardio that day. I last shredded on sunday but keeping to Level 3 as I think its the best one. Level 2 is just too hard on my knees so I will not revisit that one but when I have done 10x on L3 (so 6 more times) I'll go back to Level 1 again and do some of that but with 2KG weights.

I can still only manage half normal push-ups and half on my knees. I think if you have a shoulder injury then best leave well alone.

I have not measured myself but have clearly lost inches, I fitted into a SIZE 10 dress on sunday, twas a squeeze but got it on and thats what counts! Although hard to tell if thats from shred or all the gym classes. Certainly not diet, today I have had some cream birthday cake and 2x Jaffa cakes as it wass someones birthday at workBlush.

Agree with whoever said move up when ready, I think those on level 2 should move up to 3 asap as its so much better, even the 'rockstar' jumps which are knackering and make you look like a moron but I'm sure they are worth it!

Keep shredding all!

L2d9. Good today.

I noticed something yesterday, we had a big takeway with rice AND noodles AND chips. I didn't as bloated as I normally would, surely that means there's some muscle in there somewhere?

More new people! Welcome!

I've stuck to the 10 days, for want of a better plan. By the end of one I could do strength & cardio and even enjoy bits of it, the same is true now in level 2. I realise that abs is my weakest area and needs some attention but I didn't want to stay on a level & get bored. So after the 30 days I might try and alternate shred levels/pilates/something else.

Otherside Blush of course. I still maintain that is very early to have already shredded though!

Brian, good luck with 3!

orangina · 19/05/2011 10:55

Will TRY to do shred this evening, but am supposed to be going out after I get kids to bed, so it might not happen..... erk! Read somewhere (this thread?!) that wearing wrist weights around will also help tone upper arms, so am popping them on every time I get back home. Will report back on results (if any!)...

Am v impressed with anyone who has managed to get to levels 2 or 3.... will carry on w level 1 this week, and perhaps attempt L2 next week?

Well done everyone!

IShallWearMidnight · 19/05/2011 11:14

L1 d4. Was horrid. Am unfit. And flabby. Why can't I have Jillian's tummy? Snot fair, grr.
