I need a Shred buddy

Brahbrah · 20/03/2011 13:49

I had a Shred buddy but she knackered her knees. It turns out I have no self-motivation at all as I haven't done it once since she stopped.

Anyone looking at a neglected copy of the 30 Day Shred and want to buddy up? We had managed to get to day 10 and had just moved up to level 2 when we stopped, but I'm happy to start again at day 1.

Not much required, just a daily check in to say, 'yep, done it for today, how about you?'

Whaddya say?

Shredded, l2d4. Still feeling rubbish and found today hard. I do most of it straight through but have been known to take a 5second breather in the abs and that was definitely true today!

I think I'm a bit changed though - a tiny bit trimmer & stronger? Must take some more comparison photos.

Supersal - it is tough with af, extra points for keeping going anyway!

Welcome koekje Smile

koekje · 12/05/2011 10:09

Hello all!

supersalstrawberry - pretty okay actually, but any sort of press-up even with knees down is a bit beyond me. And I don't feel too bad this morning either.

Dog and both cats sat and watched me with great interest throughout.

I need to get some handweights though, am just using cans of beans right now. What weight should I be going for? 2kg? 5kg?

Realised after I posted that 5kg weights would be insane, I'll get a pair of 1kg as suggested.

Just done L1D2 and feel quite buzzy. Anything arm-related is a bit of a killer for me though. Plus I now regret not having persevered more with my Kegel exercises post-DD.

Reason that I started this programme is that while I got back to pre-DD weight reasonably quickly and easily (she's 3), everything's terribly soft and saggy now. I'm (ahem) early 40's, 5ft6 and just shy of 10 stone so wouldn't mind shifting a few pounds but am more concerned about firming it all up tbh.

Anyone in the same boat? Will Jillian give me what I'm looking for?

BadPoet · 14/05/2011 10:55

Shredded l2d5. Hmm I am not getting any better at the abs. I didn't shred yesterday (both kids off with tummy bugs) and maybe too many breaks is the reason why. Onwards and upwards, am going to drag myself through the 30 days but I will def be going back to level 1 and working on my weakest areas more. Think I might get a pilates dvd too.

koekje - I use 1kg too. I have a similar goal, I don't really mind if I lose weight and don't really need to but want to be less flabby. I think that's exactly what this will do, in fact I think I am noticing a difference.

There will be NO PHOTOS though Grin. How'd you get on yesterday supersal?

Can I join you? I have posted on another thread about the shred (Grin) but can see this is a dedicated one.

I'm on day 5 of the first level (I missed yesterday) and plan to do it six days a week as I will do another sport that day and want to give my body one rest day.
Using 1kg weights and not finding it too bad as I am vaguely fit so I think I will try level 2 tomorrow or Monday. Bit worried about it.
What sort of planks are they? I can do normal planks for a little while but if they involve actually moving I'm going to be rubbish.

Othersideofthechannel · 15/05/2011 05:53

Hi
I have just started doing this. About to do day 6 of level one. I can do it all (using 1kg weights) apart from the 2nd batch of press ups. My arms are still too tired from the first batch! Glad I saw this thread because it has already answered my questions ie when do you move up a level and what do you do afterwards.
Carole, I am planning to do a bit of ironing in front of level 2 so I know exactly what I am letting myself in for, before moving up.

carolemiddleclasston · 15/05/2011 14:03

That's a good idea. We are on the same day then. I felt like my body had taken a real battering by this morning though and my knees and shoulders (weak from other sport) were feeling very dodgy. I will skip shred today and did some other sport instead but will pick it up again tomorrow.

Othersideofthechannel · 15/05/2011 15:07

I have watched level 2. I will go for it on Tuesday morning because on Mondays I go swimming at lunchtimes and I have a feeling I will be barely able to walk after it!

Brianstorm · 15/05/2011 23:29

Sorry again for lack of updates - family funeral and FA Cup day BBQ kept me busy - but have finished L2D7. I missed 2 days in a row because of all the other things going on, and my back was getting a bit sore. To be honest, it was the best thing I did - the whole having 1 day rest thing (ok 2, but who's counting!) gave me a new lease of life, and definitely made my back feel a whole lot better. Think I will take a day off a week from now on.

I actually like Level 2 more than 1 - having less intense cardio moves, and more strength concentration seems to really work for me. Have no idea what Level 3 has in store, but if it's more cardio then I'm not in for a good time Grin Apart from all the plank moves which are a killer, the neck roll at the warm-up makes me really dizzy though - unlike you BadPoet who gets dizzy from the plank moves. Because my knees feel like they're taking some strain with all the exercise, I just replace it with the knee roll from the Level 1 warm-up.

And all the newbies - really glad to see you all! Honestly do think having other people check on your progress is stopping me giving up after day 3 as I normally do helping me. I use 1kg weights at the minute. I appreciate that heavier weights help the workout but I know my limits, and I really was starting from scratch. Once I get to the end of this 30 days, I think I'll get 2 kg for the next 30. And the planks do involve movement as well, but as usual there is an Anita and a Natalie way of doing things to build you up - Carole, if you're moving up this early, then you'll probably find that you're moving on to Natalie's way quite quickly Envy

Girls - let's keep it going!!!

Just a minute ago I ripped the cellophane from my copy of the Shred. I'm guessing that doesn't count as actually having done it really, does it Grin.

OK, i'm going off upstairs to find a sports bra and some trainers, will crawl back in half an hour to die in a painful moaning heap be all energised. Wish me luck.

got mine today at last, play must have re stocked,I was going to tell you i would do it tmw but i am going to comit and do it this afternoon so i can be on par with others.I feel abit scared,i had dd 15 wks ago and still feel a bit feeble but thats largely lack of sleep i think Grin Will be back to check in after 4. Abs here i come.

IShallWearMidnight · 16/05/2011 11:58

ow ow ow I forgot how much I hate Jillian for being so toned and bloody perky (managed 4 days or so back in January). Stupidly I tried to hang out a load of washing afterwards and it HURT. I will not give in this time though, I have 12 days till we go on holiday, and I WILL do it every day. Huh.

(anyone who sees me anywhere else must chase me back to this thread laughing at my belly flab just to make sure i don't wimp out Wink).

BadPoet · 16/05/2011 13:49

Done l2d6. MUCH better today - for the first time I actually felt like I did after level 1, energised and buzzy and I-can-do-this. I muted 'Killian' and put on some music instead which helped. Abs still my weakest point, but improving!

Brianstorm - there you are. I am sorry to hear about your loss. I'm glad that you went easy on yourself for a couple of days, & that it helped. (ps I don't really do the neck rolls either).

Supersal -impressed that you shredded when feeling hangovery and fed up. I hope it does lift for you, check in later if you can? Smile

Hello and welcome, IShallWearMidnight, ledkr, carolemiddleclasston & Othersideofthechannel! ledkr, 15 weeks ago is NOTHING, go easy OK?

Am determined to shred every day this week and be DONE with level 2.

Othersideofthechannel · 16/05/2011 16:04

ledkr, i would reinforce that message to take it easy. Also, I was told by a physio (you get physio on the state after giving birth in France) to make sure my pelvic floor was back to normal before doing abs.

ledkr · 16/05/2011 17:01

Ah thanks ive been doing the davina post natal and my abs are not too bad, ihad a c section so am going to approach with caution, the more i read about it im expecting some kind of torture session.
I am desperate to get this baby weight shifted it was my 5th and i was mahoooosive-pics on profile-i just cannot seem to get back,i know people say its early but she is 15wks now and what is going to change, ive lost all the weight i will naturally time to work. Are you all dieting as well?

I ma not small never have been,i was a ten stone ballet dancer!I think the black dress and the sheer size of my belly is deceiving, im 5ft 7 and wearing a 16 at the mo,and my belly is still big too. Blush
I will tentatively look at it tomorrow and wont do it if its too much, thanks. Smile

Othersideofthechannel · 17/05/2011 05:47

Level 2, Day 1,

That was hard. I don't think I'll ever manage to keep up with Nathalie. Looking on the bright side, there aren't any proper press-ups

BadPoet · 17/05/2011 10:17

L2d7. Good again today, there are bits of it that I actually enjoy now.

Well done otherside, go you! I feel the same about Nat, although occasionally I do a couple of big skater leaps or double jumps just to see and then retreat back to Anita's moves!

supersal, hope you are feeling better

ledkr, I suppose what might change is your muscle strength - I know the gp usually says it's ok to exercise after 6 or 12 weeks but this is relatively high impact and the abs are quite hard (I am obv very objective about this Smile). But if you've been doing Davina...I am not in any way particularly knowledgeable or an expert and it would be a shame if you lost your motivation so I wonder if it's worth starting another thread - I think there are personal trainers who post here.

I'm not dieting, to answer that question! Probably would see quicker results if I was.

Your photos are gorgeous!
