Part 10 of our long running thread.
I'm still putting my money on a spring GE.
The tory slash and burn of the UK is right on track.
Bon chance my friends!

I haven't had a great deal to say for the last few months, so just marking my place.

HannibalHeyes · 31/01/2023 13:03

I don't think there will be a spring GE unfortunately. There is still some money left in the economy that the Tories haven't stolen for their donors yet, and they will spend the rest of the year doing just that, along with running down the NHS to try and privatise as much of it as possible beforehand.

Fladdermus · 31/01/2023 13:06

Is it true that the UK ecomony is now performing worse than sanctioned Russia?

pointythings · 31/01/2023 13:11

@Fladdermus yes. The UK is predicted to be the only G7 country not to have growth in 2023 and that includes Russia. Sunlit, indeed.

I'm hoping that some civil unrest does for them

Oh, and I forgot - must uphold the tradition, so here is a picture of my most gormless cat, who would do better in government than any of the current crop of incumbents.

Apparently so.

Obviously forecasts are just that... but it's pretty shocking that the IMF (along with many other forecasters) predict this.

In no particular order, its exposure to gas prices, universal energy scheme and labour shortages, impacted by Brexit.... so 2 out of 3 self inflicted, 3/3 really as producing 50% of our gas needs should mean we have an advantage over many other G7 countries.

That's quite a title Chevyimpala, thanks for the new thread

Gorgeous face!

Thank you Chevy & all other contributors I’m hoping probably in vain unless it’s does get to the point of civil unrest a spring GE also.

I'd like to see a spring GE, but I think the Tories are going to cling on until the last possible moments, hoping the electorates will forget the current shitshow and vote them in again.

borntobequiet · 31/01/2023 17:12

pointy your cat has got gormless looking down to a fine art. Is he thinking of going into politics? I think he might do a better job than the current government.

borntobequiet · 31/01/2023 17:14

Oh sorry I only saw the pic and didn’t read all the text! You’re perfectly right.

RafaistheKingofClay · 31/01/2023 17:34

Gormless cat for PM! I’d vote for him.

I’m losing hope in civil unrest. But then I suppose it would only take a spark. Perhaps we just haven’t got to the event that lights the touchpaper yet.

Exasperatednow · 31/01/2023 17:37

731 daya to go until they have to have an election (I think).

pointythings · 31/01/2023 17:59

@borntobequiet he is amazingly stupid and adorable, also very friendly. The vet reckons his mum had feline influenza in pregnancy and that can cause abnormalities - he has a sister who is also affected, but his brother (who is part of my flock) is completely normal. He's stupid, can be very clumsy, has a tiny head and is just generally weird looking, but we love him.

He'd be such a great PM compared to the current one.

From twitter;

CORRECTION: earlier today, I tweeted out that only 3 out of 632 constituencies in Britain still have a pro-Brexit majority. I was wrong. Only ONE has a majority, the other two are 50-50. Boston and Skegness is the only seat in the whole country that is still majority pro-Brexit.

Have they not got eyes in Boston and Skegness?

Have they not got eyes in Boston and Skegness?

Ever been?

Both very poor areas, low educational attainment, high crime, lots of mindless violence fuelled by alcohol, in the case of Skegness reliant on tourism, in the case of Boston reliant on farming/harvesting.

Huge poverty of aspiration.

My overriding memory of Skegness is that it smelt of piss. Boston of cabbages.

Boston had a big influx of Eastern European migrants who worked the fields fruit and veg picking in often awful conditions.

I imagine for the hard of thinking that stoked anti eu feeling helped in no small measure by the lies and horrendous language spouted by leave.eu which were not challenged by the mainstream media.

The result has been veg and fruit rotting in the fields. Amazingly, leavers don't want to do the back breaking work of these workers. Imagine that.

I would never, ever go to either place again. Utterly depressing.

I will also add that as a child we went to Skegness every summer.
I hated it at age 8 too.
