Part 10 of our long running thread.
I'm still putting my money on a spring GE.
The tory slash and burn of the UK is right on track.
Bon chance my friends!

I started to read the article, by Truss, I think it was on the BBC website, and after two paragraphs I couldn't stand anymore of the silly woman's self pity.

I think Chuck Berry applies.

If you can't understand the words, you aren't meant to understand the words.

Admittedly that was about a cultural genre that effectively began empowering an oppressed majority not a reference to a lettuce botherer. But whenever I am unfortunate enough to catch a glimpse of Express clickbait I am reminded there are many universes Brexiteers live in. None of which is real.

Did anyone catch the latest Express bollocks about how Ukraine would have lost if it weren't for Brexit ?

From Private Eye when Liz Truss got nobbled by her own party.

Self pity and blithe delusion. I read the story in the Guardian - I found it highly entertaining.

For once I totally agreed with Osborne:

She was brought down by the free market, the free market in government bonds,” he said. “And that bond market destroyed her government before, actually, the problems then emerged a few days later in those pension funds.

“She dismissed the economic establishment. She fired the permanent secretary at the Treasury. She went around telling everyone, as did her chancellor, that the Bank of England governor was useless. She didn’t consult the office … To then turn around and say ‘no one told me’, well I mean, she went out of her way not to listen.”

Blimey I didn't realise there was a Brexit section- I'm going to be in this rabbit hole now for days!! In between taking my statins and checking my blood pressure

HannibalHeyes · 06/02/2023 01:05

They try to hide it away as Mumsnet blatantly supported Brexshit, so they don't want anyone talking about it anymore...

Crikeyalmighty · 06/02/2023 11:18

@HannibalHeyes did they?? In what way? I joined very shortly after the referendum .

DrBlackbird · 06/02/2023 11:45

the Torygraph is totally team Boris

…which is why I was surprised by Truss taking up so much space. I can only speculate that no one at the Torygraph thinks Rishi will make it to the next GE. That somehow it’ll come down to either Johnson or Truss (who was the Tory member’s chosen one). In which case, the Torygraph is letting Tory members remember that it was Truss who crashed their pensions and is unrepentant and, as per this insane article demonstrates, is likely to do so again.

Thus, setting up a Johnson return?! I have noticed Johnson popping up everywhere again. Oh my god. What is the matter with these people.

HannibalHeyes · 06/02/2023 11:49

There was blatant bias in the was they moderated. Remainers were deleted and banned left, right, and centre, and the Leave shills were allowed to get away with murder.

Yes, I thought it might be something like that.

SerendipityJane · 06/02/2023 19:29

Every column inch that is devoted to Truss is one column inch less that can be used to remind people what an utter cunt Boris Johnson is.

However, I still feel the tectonic plates of society (aka "demographics") are shifting at such a speed the Tories really haven't a chance. The present situation is disguising some fundamental changes. The main one being a 50+ electorate who have fuck all intention of being roped in to fix the past 13 years (remember that would be someone who was 37 in 2010) Tory mismanagement.

@HannibalHeyes blimey! I can't think what possessed them- and that's very poor moderation . the weird thing is I've found most leavers at the time came from 3 particular groups - over 65s , very well off and desparate to keep their offshore accounts or working class and often in the ' trades' -trying to make sure they had little competition so they could charge what they want. The only women I saw posting complete balls at the time either fitted the Julia Hartley Brewer kind of mould or Doreen from Barnsley who was obsessed about Muslims- there didn't seem many women leave voters outside of these cliches.

HannibalHeyes · 06/02/2023 23:58

It was new to me to see these shills who were obviously well versed in what they were trying to do; i.e. spread disinformation, not respond to people questioning or pointing out inaccuracies, and then winding people up who were trying to point out barefaced lies in order to get them banned. Mumsnet were complicit in allowing the the freedom to do exactly as they liked, and were so very quick to ban anyone they wanted rid of.

It was a real eye opener. I'm obviously so much more aware of this behaviour now, but this was my first introduction to it.

DuncinToffee · 07/02/2023 08:30

That was my experience too Hannibal. I was not much of a poster at that time but reading those threads (and the Trump ones) really was an eye opener.

It has helped me navigating the likes of twitter.

Yep
I remember that well

Boris coming back would be an absolute insult to the thousands of ordinary people who suffered under Covid though surely- the lies, the partying, that was so horrific and corrupt. The non support of the parliamentary party. Please god, he sticks to grandstanding for the easy audiences at paid private gigs and doesn’t want to come back as PM.

DrBlackbird · 07/02/2023 09:38

I found the Westminstenders/Brexit threads shortly after the 2016 referendum looking for, and relived to find, concrete facts and intelligent discourse as I was dismayed by the result and could not understand why the UK would vote to damage itself so badly. So didn’t witness the impact of the mods on this topic leading up to the referendum. Perhaps there were hard core Leave mods imposing a personal agenda. This has happened on other topics I believe including a data leak. So not out of the realms of possibility.

DrBlackbird · 07/02/2023 09:41

And of course he wants to come back as PM… just like Truss he’ll have someone else to blame for being disposed, never himself, and his cognitive dissonance at not being king of the world must be huge.

“The UK has also been affected by a third type of shock which makes it unique: no other country chose to unilaterally impose trade barriers on its closest trading partners,” she said.
