Westministenders: Where's my milk and cheese?

The 'smooth' exit from transition now leads to a million and one little things that you can't get hold of or took completely for granted.

Why is sainsbury in NI selling spa milk? Why can't you get hold of your favourite food stuff?

Its a slow strangulation of the country.

In which you get to learn all about the merits of the EU and what a donkey Johnson really is.

Thanks for the Lincoln Project link Hannibal Hayes, scary times.

Shrillharridan · 07/01/2021 21:16

I've sent the LP link to ds1, thanks

Who or what are 'Cosec Ltd'? They were the Reform Party's secretary/Directory for a day as they were for dozens and dozens of other firms.

AuldAlliance · 07/01/2021 21:22

I've just done a little experiment.
I got an email from Seasalt because I once ordered from them. They wanted to tell me they have set up a website now for customers in France.

If I look on the UK website and pick a random coat, it is priced at £79.95 in the sale, down from £159.95.

The current exchange rate is €1.11 to the £.

On the French website, that coat is priced at
€145 in the sale, down from €245.
And I would have to pay customs duty on it.

Company Formation Agents. No story there. Lots of people use them to churn through slightly non standard company formations.

I have a couple of tame ones I've used
but now I use a lovely online company who do it in one go.

They act as a company secretary for you to set up a limited company.
DrBlackbird · 07/01/2021 21:32

Ah okay for explanation LQ. Interesting in how the Reform Party only has to name Cosec's people and no one else e.g. Nige's name does not have to be attached to it as it was for UKIP or Brexit Party....

If people want to prioritise their beliefs over facts, then I will be fucking rude.

Look where it’s got us.

ListeningQuietly · 07/01/2021 22:23

DrB
Company formation can be done without appointed officers.
Its a long story and linked to some of the UKs dodgier habits MLR wise
but its useful for businesses.

An excellent thread here;
The first #Brexit Briefing of 2021

"Which is to say that #Brexit impact is not really about 'delays at the border'...it's the permanent, structural disadvantage of UK businesses vis-a-vis EU counterparts. i.e Those 'non-tariff barriers' that
@BorisJohnson said did not exist (in a universe of alternative facts)"

Fishing is huge in sporting terms. But I think I’ve posted before that once in school when the focus was on “celebrating achievement” and I put forward one of my tutor group for an award for winning numerous angling competitions, I was told that fishing didn’t really count. Team sports, athletics, rowing, archery - fine. Fishing apparently was just a leisure activity (and one rather popular with boys who weren’t too fond of school). As I walked my dog for miles along the river and the canal towpath I encountered many of our fishermen and had numerous pleasant conversations with them - so they never gave me any trouble in class.

I have to wonder if the Tories do have any MPs who have any real business experience any more. I am quite sure that the problems detailed in the FT report were anticipated.

@DGRossetti, how lovely of you to post that photo of Ms Shatel demonstrating her Irish dancing for the police.

Seems like those no tariffs are tariffs after all! And all is not running smoothly!

With regard to this - great the BBC have recently started fact checking the Prime minister.

But now it needs to deal with other priorities.

Why was Farage and blah blah bendy bananas front line news for years, yet the results of this senseless national self harm is hidden down in the business section and not a main headline at all ?

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 08/01/2021 10:06

Indeed, lonelyplanetmum.

These articles need a wider audience, including on other MN threads.
And if we all keep clicking on them, they'll be headlines soon enough.

The DUP is calling for the UK's Brexit deal to be suspended! Saying the added bureaucracy is proving a disaster for Northern Ireland.

[/quote] No shit.

Shouldn't have voted against May then. She knew what would happen to NI. They did not listen.

Dickheads.
