Westministenders: Where's my milk and cheese?

The 'smooth' exit from transition now leads to a million and one little things that you can't get hold of or took completely for granted.

Why is sainsbury in NI selling spa milk? Why can't you get hold of your favourite food stuff?

Its a slow strangulation of the country.

In which you get to learn all about the merits of the EU and what a donkey Johnson really is.

@QueenOfThorns

Oh, I’m not making the mistake of thinking that Priti Patel has any benign motives for what she said. It’s interesting though that she has condemned Trump’s actions when (as far as I know) our Glorious Leader has only criticised the protestors.
Well if she was angling to replace Boris (who is damaged goods to the US) then that's what I'd advise her to do.

Where's my consultancy fee ?

QueenOfThorns · 07/01/2021 12:17

Priti Patel replace Boris? Surely she must know that isn’t going to happen? Didn’t a recent poll for the Observer rank her as the least popular major politician in the UK - she scored -19% if I remember correctly!

Peregrina · 07/01/2021 12:38

She would certainly throw her hat into the ring, I would think. Whether the average Tory would have the stomach for another woman leader and Indian at that, would be a bit debatable.

Shrillharridan · 07/01/2021 12:46

Peregrina · 07/01/2021 13:13

When you think about it both Thatcher and May were authoritarian, headmistressy figures, which the likes of Rees-Mogg could equate to Nanny. I don't think Patel qualifies as headmistressy. I think she might like to.

I suspect deep self insight isn't one of her strengths.

Or indeed any insight.

In the USA people who lost whine about it. In the UK people who won whine about it. Us Brits are weird fuckers, that's for sure. Thanks as ever @RedToothBrush

There are things I could say about that picture but won't. Its well chosen... and timed.

Well it got deleted by MNHQ once. When I posted it asking what shade of Feldgrau people thought should go with the new march.

If she ever needed eyesight correction, then I could easily see a pair of Lennon-esque glasses fitting perfectly.

I suspect she too is working on programmes to ensure people that have to carry out her diktats don't suffer mental anguish. If she wants to PM me, I know of some research.

I'm starting to wonder if the ongoing UK VAT saga, is actually the result of Brexiteers being owned by the civil service they despise ? It's hard to think that an ardent Brexiteer would deliberately put in place a policy that caused so many questions to be asked so quickly - even if we assume they had a clue what they were on about in the first place.

But a fully energised civil service ? I'd like to think they gently guided Rishi to this solution and he fell for it. They may even have sold it as "taking back control" in the briefing, knowing full well that would trigger a rush on the Kleenex.

And even if that isn't what happened, it doesn't do any harm to suggest it's what did.

Meanwhile, in an outpost of the former (in reality ) UK

Moving goods from Great Britain to Northern Ireland
If your goods need an import declaration in Northern Ireland after 11pm 31 December 2020, they may still leave Great Britain without an import declaration having been pre-lodged if they have Union status and started their movement from Great Britain to Northern Ireland before 11pm on 31 December 2020.
From 12:01am (GMT) on 8 January 2021, all goods crossing from Great Britain to Northern Ireland using a GVMS location will require a GMR.
If your goods have union status and the goods movement started before 11pm (GMT) 31 December 2020, you will not need to create or provide a GMR for a period of 7 days from 31 December if you are travelling through a GVMS location.

We used to just drive it via ferries.

Debenhams closes online business in Ireland as 50 major UK retailers face EU tariffs

Exporting opportunities are flourishing.

Marks and Spencer is trying to establish how much of the produce it sources from overseas and then ships from the UK to its stores in Ireland, France and the Czech Republic will be impacted.
M&S Europe no longer viable???

List of companies charging more or stopping exports to the UK/EU.

So much winning for the great trading nation with its precious independence Hmm

I can think of at least two companies not on that list.

Tesco also had stores in the Czech Republic. Now whether they source food from the UK, I wouldn't know, so it may not in practice make a lot of difference to them.

Clearly Johnson's idea of Global, does not tally with mine.

Patel viewed resistance to brexit on a par with insurgents carrying out domestic terrorism.
I saw someone on the US threads trying to make that equivalent too. It's ludicrous.
I do wish people would stop making lazy assumptions of equivalence. The US election was a perfectly normal, regular Presidential election, performed according to law and time-honoured ritual. You might almost use the word 'everyday', except that it isn't. The Brexit vote was a one-off decision about foreign affairs policy and economics, which few understand, of immense import and impact, that will not be possible to undo easily. The two are not even remotely comparable.

(And no remainer made serious incitements to a gun-toting nation about it being illegitimate to the point where it needed overthrowing through violence. What illegitimacy was claimed, has been proven.)

MayYouLiveInInterestingTimes · 07/01/2021 17:40

which few understand - and almost none, if any at all, have full and complete information on. I do not believe that horse racing is the UK's second largest spectator sport, sorry, but that it eclipses the contribution of fishing is amusing.

Horse racing is definitely number 2

Grin I am going to have to go away and thoroughly fact check that. Thanks for the new hobby. Does it include TV coverage and other viewing figures??
