Westministenders: Where's my milk and cheese?

The 'smooth' exit from transition now leads to a million and one little things that you can't get hold of or took completely for granted.

Why is sainsbury in NI selling spa milk? Why can't you get hold of your favourite food stuff?

Its a slow strangulation of the country.

In which you get to learn all about the merits of the EU and what a donkey Johnson really is.

Thanks Red!

Peregrina · 06/01/2021 23:54

But we have to make sure that it sticks to Johnson and his cronies.
I hope that his making a mess of the Covid situation will help.

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/01/2021 23:55

Thanks Red. Interesting times.

Peregrina · 06/01/2021 23:59

Red, have you kept a tally of the number of Westministenders threads that you have started?

The last thread filled up pretty quickly and yet Brexit was done and dusted and we could all go back to getting on with each other again, and having the easiest trade deals in history, which were done in an afternoon. Although clearly some people's idea of how long an afternoon lasts, is as good as Raab's geography.

Why trump is relevant to brexit:

Andreas Michaelis @GermanUkAmb
After our catastrophic failure in the 20th Century we Germans were taught by the US to develop strong democratic institutions. We also learnt that democracy is not just about institutions. It is about political culture, too. All democratic nations need to constantly defend it.

Douglas Fraser @bbcdouglasf
Fish exports delayed at Lanarkshire distribution hubs where Export Health Certificates taking 5 hours for a vet check instead of 45-60 mins estimated, leading to backlog.
Further delays at English Channel, having to take Dunkirk ferry rather than tunnel because of Calais blockage

Fish exporter James Cook in Eyemouth tells #bbcgms transport “ground to a halt- it’s zero. Trade with Europe has become a lottery” with HMRC failing to issue necessary codes.

Is that the same Daniel Hannan who will take a seat with the inconsequential nobodies (aka House of Lords)?

Although his comment that the HoL is “made up of people who can pass laws without having to justify themselves to those who must obey their laws” seems particularly apt for the current Tories.

TonMoulin · 07/01/2021 08:14

I saw that one too Red

I would think no one on these threads will be surprised.
But I have to say, seing how little protection there is, I’m wondering how low the tories are willing to go.

The worst thing is that, despite the huge amount of information out there and the fact we are all supposed to know what is happening in other countries (and be able to compare), people still think the uk is a heaven and might well not grumble that much at the idea of ‘removing red tape’ (Let’s forget the tories have increased red tape in many other areas)

Another possible Brexit win? This time being endorsed by that Tory bright spark George Eustice Hmm

PawFives · 07/01/2021 08:36

Thanks for the new thread Red
Like others I’m not surprised about the ‘now get rid of workers rights’ rhetoric but I didn’t think they would reveal the end game so quickly. Still, I guess they can use COVID as cover.

I can predict the messaging now - we need to get lazy furloughed scroungers working, let’s makes it easy for employers to get people into jobs. Any bets on when the first lazy benefit scroungers headline will be?

... with food safety standard don’t forget JRM give a view a year or so ago saying we should follow India’s standards - if it’s good enough for India it’s good enough for us.

borntobequiet · 07/01/2021 09:00

Hannah falls into a Brexiter mould: nerdy, focused to the point of obsession and with an unusual and insecure upbringing. This from 2016:

pointythings · 07/01/2021 09:14

Not at all surprised to see the push for the erosion of rights and protections starting already - Tories need to accelerate this to get the pounds in their mates' pockets.

And they've got four more years to trash the UK. Sad
